Extending education outdoors : an educational landscape for the new Wauseon 3-8 Elementary : an honors thesis [(HONRS 499)]

This study reveals how an environmental education landscape can benefit children and adults in the community of Wauseon, Ohio. It explored the role outdoor environmental education plays in a school's curriculum and community prosperity, and it identified the physical elements that can be included in a successful outdoor environmental education landscape.The study consisted of researching the philosophy of outdoor environmental education as well as case studies and strategies in designing outdoor education facilities. It also explored how an outdoor educational landscape can facilitate the needs of school children as well as adults of the community. The results of a survey of teachers and administrators helped formulate a supplementary list of amenities to include in an educational landscape to be utilized by a school.The results of research and survey helped guide the design of an outdoor environmental education landscape for Wauseon 3-8 Elementary School located in Wauseon, Ohio. Site analysis was completed to determine the prime location for such facilities, and a master plan for the campus was generated.
