Effect of substrate alloy composition on the oxidation behaviour and degradation of aluminide coatings on two Ni base superalloys

    No full text
The oxidation behaviour and microstructural evolution of aluminide coatings on the Ni base superalloys Rene 80 and alloy 625 were investigated during 1050 °C oxidation in air. Alumina based oxide scales formed on the coating surfaces of both alloys and only minor differences in scale growth and spallation kinetics were found. A coupled thermodynamic-kinetic model was employed to describe the effect of the base material on the depletion processes and microstructural changes in the aluminide coating thus providing a tool for coating life time prediction without very extensive test programs

Effect of alloying elements in Ni-base substrate material on interdiffusion processes in MCrAlY-coated systems

The effect of alloying elements in the substrate on the interdiffusion processes between a NiCoCrAlY-coating and model Ni-base superalloys was studied. Four single-crystal substrates Ni-10Cr-8Al-X (wt%, X = 10Co, 9Ta, 6 W) were coated with a conventional NiCoCrAlY-coating and exposed to air for up to 1000 h at 1050 °C. The microstructural analyses (LOM/SEM/EDX) revealed a strong dependence of the coating degradation rate on the substrate composition. The coating applied to the ternary base Ni-10Cr-8Al alloy and to the quaternary Co-containing substrate degraded most rapidly while the Ta addition to the substrate effectively suppressed interdiffusion. The degradation phenomena such as β-NiAl depletion and propagation of the secondary reaction zone (SRZ) were interpreted in terms of a thermodynamical analysis in Thermo-Calc and by using a CALPHAD-based thermodynamic-kinetic diffusion model

MATHEMATICAL SIMULATION OF JOINT WORK OF A VIBRATION ISOLATOR GROUP WITH QUASI-ZERO STIFFNESS

The relevance of the work is due to the need to develop new means of highly efficient vibration protection. One such means is a vibration isolator with quasi-zero stiffness. They are quite sensitive elements, so the problem of designing and operating vibration isolators with quasi-zero stiffness is relevant. Nowadays, comprehensive studies on their work within a group have not yet conducted. Purpose of the work is to study the sensitivity of vibration isolators with quasi-zero stiffness to the errors of geometric parameters while their manufacture. Methodology of research. This work is a continuation of the experimental studies of plate-type universal vibration isolators with quasi-zero stiffness. For the research, an analytical study and a computer-based multiple experimental procedure with random input data were used. Results. Analytical studies show that vibration isolators with quasi-zero stiffness are very sensitive objects. Basic properties, such as workload and stiffness under workload, largely depend on key parameters. Vibration isolators of plate type have a very strong dependence of the workload on the external and internal radii, the height of the cone and the wall thickness. The dynamics of a group of vibration isolators was analysed. Due to the deviation of different parameters and the nonlinearity of the power characteristics, the behaviour of the group does not coincide with the average behaviour of one vibration isolator. It has been found that for a group of isolators there is a slight increase in workload. Moreover, deviations in parameters lead to a decrease in stiffness. Conclusions. The high sensitivity of installed vibration isolators with quasi-zero stiffness proves that they require careful attention and high precision in manufacturing. The resulting deviations of the behaviour of a group of vibration isolators from the behaviour of a single vibration isolator indicate the need to enter appropriate corrections when designing them, otherwise this may lead to loss of stability and instability of the equipment, which should be avoided
