Electronic band structure and exchange coupling constants in ACr2X4 spinels
We present the results of band structure calculations for ACr2X4 (A=Zn, Cd,
Hg and X=O, S, Se) spinels. Effective exchange coupling constants between Cr
spins are determined by fitting the energy of spin spirals to a classical
Heisenberg model. The calculations reproduce the change of the sign of the
dominant nearest-neighbor exchange interaction J1 from antiferromagnetic in
oxides to ferromagnetic in sulfides and selenides. It is verified that the
ferromagnetic contribution to J1 is due to indirect hopping between Cr t2g and
eg states via X p states. Antiferromagnetic coupling between 3-rd Cr neighbors
is found to be important in all the ACr2X4 spinels studied, whereas other
interactions are much weaker. The results are compared to predictions based on
the Goodenough-Kanamori rules of superexchange.Comment: 15 pages, 10 figures, 3 table
Influence of Ρ-thyrozol on the morphology and antioxidant-prooxidant balance in prostate of rats at sulpiride-induced benign prostatic hyperplasia
The aim of the research was to study the influence of p-thyrozol on the morphology and antioxidant-prooxidant balance in prostate of rats at sulpiride-induced benign prostatic hyperplasia. It was found that introduction of p-thyrozol promoted thwarting progress of pathological process that was proved by less degree of manifestation of proliferative processes in epithelium and of cellular infiltration of stroma. A quantitative composition of the immunocompetent cell subpopulations in mucous membrane of a lobar bronchus was studied in pneumonia patients according to the illness course. Utilization of natural biostimulators- secondary metabolits of plants in carrot production was studied. Purified fractions with glycoside content are characterized with extraction and adsorption chromatography from the next plants: linarosides β from Linaria vulgaris Mill. L., melampyrosides - from Melampyrum nemorosum L., genistifoliosides - from Linaria genistifolia L., verbascosides - from Verbascum phlomoides L., melongosides - from Solanum melongena L. and tomatoside β from Solanum lycopersicum L. The former substance was registered under market mark βecostimβ. Prospective preparations for the improvement plant resistance to abiotic and biotic stresses have been identified in laboratory tests. Treatment of carrot seeds with water solutions of such substances accelerates plant growth, increases yield and improves quality of storage roots. We determined regimes of seed treatment (substance concentration, time of exposition) and gave recommends by using of natural regulators in the technologic scheme of carrot cultivation. Using secondary metabolites of higher plants stimulates the energy of germination (on 1,5-6,7%) and increases the field germination of carrot seeds (on 23-40%). It accelerates leaves growth and increases the mass of storage roots, improves biochemical characteristics of storage roots (accumulation the Ξ²- carotene and decreasing of nitrates content). The results of cell fission research in the epithelium and the stroma of large bronchus mucosa was done in 10 healthy persons and 73 patients with acute pneumonia according to the course of the disease. Autoradiography with 3H-thymidine and immunohistochemistry with proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) were used. In all cases we obtained reliably high PCNA index of positive cell nuclei in comparison with a labeling level detected by the autoradiography. STUDY OF DNA DAMAGE by NEW NORMOTHYMIC MEDICINAL ON THE BASIS OF THE COMPLEX OF LITHIUM CITRATE, POLYMETHYLSYLOXANE AND ALUMINUM OXIDE BY DNA COMET ASSAY <i>IN VIVO</i>
The aim of the study was to study the effect of the normotimic drug based on a complex of lithium citrate, polymethylsiloxane and alumina on DNA damage level (DNA comet test) in vivo by alkaline gel electrophoresis. It was shown that at 3 and 18 hours after the drug administration at the highest dose (2000 mg/kg) and therapeutic dose (400 mg/kg), the percentage of DNA in the tail in the cells of the bone marrow does not differ from the negative controls. That may indicate absence of possible carcinogenic action of the lithium-containing drug. On the other hand, the amount of DNA damage in other organs (kidney, liver, large intestine) increased with an exposure time of 3 hours after administration of the drug in a toxic dose. Although, the degree of this effect expression was not high. When the dose was reduced (400 mg/kg) and the duration of the experiment was increased (up to 18 hours), this effect was not detected. That indicates the ability of the drug to enhance DNA damage repair. Given that lithium preparations have a pronounced toxic effect on kidneys, gastrointestinal tract, liver, the increase in the percentage of DNA in the tail in these organs can be a consequence of the cytostatic action of the drug
