The percentage of young people with deviations in the state of health is growing every year, so the preservation and promotion of health remains an urgent problem in our time. The purpose of this study is using an educational terrencure with elements of tourism in physical education classes for students of secondary vocational education as a means of increasing motivation to maintain physical activity. The work carried out the diagnostics of the motor-activity motive of students of secondary vocational education (n = 66) for physical culture lessons. The results of the study showed a positive trend in the development of this motive for classes. the number of students with a high level of need for movement increased by 9 %.

Local cellular immune response in chronic periodontitis

Microflora of the oral cavity forms a biofilm that induces response of immune system at the mucous membranes. Transition to periodontal lesion is provided by certain classes of resident mucosal immune cells and inflammatory/immune cells migrating to the periodont. In periodontal diseases, Th1, Th2, Th17, Treg are detected. T regulatory cells (Tregs) are proven to comprise the main anti-inflammatory cell population. Th17 cells and Treg cells play an important role in osteoclast differentiation. IL-17 secreted by Th17 cells affects osteoclastogenesis and may induce macrophages to enhance the local inflammatory response. In this regard, the aim of our work was to identify the local immune cells in oral cavity which are associated with severity of chronic generalized periodontitis. The oral cavity cells from 58 persons aged 38-65 years of both sexes in their mature age with a diagnosis of «chronic periodontitis» were examined by means of flow cytofluorometry. When determining levels of CD64+CD16+CD14- neutrophils in the patients with periodontitis of different severity, a statistically significant increase of this cell population was revealed upon development of this disease. In mild cases of periodontitis, a significant increase of relative CD64+CD16+CD14-  neutrophil contents was revealed (Me = 36.16%, p < 0.05) compared to the control group (Me = 7.7%, Q0.25 = 2.4%, Q0.75 = 12%). When assessing relative numbers of CD14+ monocytes in periodontitis of various severity, we revealed a significant increase in the number of these cells in severe cases. When studying levels of regulatory T lymphocytes (CD4+CD25+CD127low) in periodontitis of different severity, we revealed significantly decreased amounts of this cell population during development of the disease. In mild cases of periodontitis, a decreased level of CD4+CD25+CD127low cells (p < 0.05, Me = 1356 cells/ml) was revealed, as compared with control group (Me = 10666 cells/ml). Although the concentration of CD4+CD25+CD127low (Me = 4709 cells/ml) in the patients with moderate periodontitis was higher than the values in milder cases, the range of the main values was comparable and lower, than in control group. In severe periodontitis, a significantly decreased concentration of regulatory T lymphocytes was revealed (Me = 2637 cells/ml). These results confirm the anti-inflammatory regulatory function of Tregs. Understanding the osteo-immune mechanisms of bone remodeling control will help to understand the pathophysiology of accelerated bone loss observed in severe chronic periodontitis

Ultrafast optical generation of coherent phonons in CdTe1-xSex quantum dots

We report on the impulsive generation of coherent optical phonons in CdTe0.68Se0.32 nanocrystallites embedded in a glass matrix. Pump probe experiments using femtosecond laser pulses were performed by tuning the laser central energy to resonate with the absorption edge of the nanocrystals. We identify two longitudinal optical phonons, one longitudinal acoustic phonon and a fourth mode of a mixed longitudinal-transverse nature. The amplitude of the optical phonons as a function of the laser central energy exhibits a resonance that is well described by a model based on impulsive stimulated Raman scattering. The phases of the coherent phonons reveal coupling between different modes. At low power density excitations, the frequency of the optical coherent phonons deviates from values obtained from spontaneous Raman scattering. This behavior is ascribed to the presence of electronic impurity states which modify the nanocrystal dielectric function and, thereby, the frequency of the infrared-active phonons

Diabetes mellitus and prostate cancer risk among older men: population-based case–control study

    Get PDF
We investigate the relation between diabetes mellitus and risk of prostate cancer among older (age 65–79 years) men in a population-based case–control study of 407 incident histologically confirmed cases registered in the South Carolina Central Cancer Registry between 1999 and 2001 (70.6% response rate); controls were 393 men identified through the Health Care Financing Administration Medicare beneficiary file for South Carolina in 1999 (63.8% response rate). After adjusting for age, race, and prostate cancer screening in the past 5 years, a history of diabetes mellitus was associated with a reduced risk of prostate cancer (adjusted odds ratio (aOR)¼0.64; 95% confidence interval (CI)¼0.45, 0.91). The protective effect was stronger for those with complications associated with diabetes (aOR¼0.61; 95% CI¼0.42, 0.90) and for African-American men (aOR¼0.36; 95% CI¼0.21, 0.62). Additional research is needed to understand the biologic mechanisms by which diabetes may influence prostate cancer risk; genetic factors may play an important role in understanding this association

Multicomponent coating in purulent wound healing: A randomised controlled experimental study

    Get PDF
Background. Purulent wound healing is a pressing surgical challenge relevant in 30−35% of patient cases. To the more, wound infectious agents elaborate resistance to available drugs warranting the development of new drug combinations exserting a multidirectional effect on the wound process.Objective. Using a purulent wound model to experimentally evaluate the efficiency of a new multicomponent wound coating comprised of polyethylene oxide and carboxymethylcellulose sodium-immobilised dioxidine, methyluracil, metronidazole and lidocaine hydrochloride in comparison with a legal approved wound coating drug preparation of beeswax and propolis-based dioxidine ointment.Methods. The antimicrobial activity range (disk-diffusion method) and local anaesthetic effect (Rainier’s method) of the developed wound coating have been assessed. The healing process was studied in a purulent wound model with 72 Wistar rats divided between two equal groups. The following methods were applied: visual wound inspection (wound cleansing time, absence of wound-surrounding tissue oedema, granulation and epithelisation), planimetric parameter estimation (wound area, healing rate, wound area reduction ratio), wound contamination and pH measurement, wound section cell morphometry (granulocyte, macrophage, lymphocyte and fibroblast counts, cell index estimation). Daily dressings were applied for 15 days.Results. The developed wound coating exhibited high efficiency against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria in the zone of inhibition tests. Its local anaesthetic effect was significantly superior to the approved drug by the duration of action. The wound area reduction was 94.2 (93.7; 94.8)% in the experimental group and 86 (84.2; 88.8)% in the control (differences statistically significant) already on day 10. A maximal healing rate in both groups was registered in phase 1 of the wound process being 1.4 times higher in experiment compared to the control. The wound contamination was significantly lower in experiment vs. control on day 8 (p = 0.0075). Wound pH negatively correlated with the fibroblast count and positively — with the contamination level.Conclusion. The study demonstrates high efficiency of the developed wound coating against infectious agents and its positive healing impact via reducing phase 1 and stimulating proliferation in phase 2 of the wound process
