Restrictions of generalized Verma modules to symmetric pairs
We initiate a new line of investigation on branching problems for generalized
Verma modules with respect to complex reductive symmetric pairs (g,k). Here we
note that Verma modules of g may not contain any simple module when restricted
to a reductive subalgebra k in general.
In this article, using the geometry of K_C orbits on the generalized flag
variety G_C/P_C, we give a necessary and sufficient condition on the triple
(g,k, p) such that the restriction X|_k always contains simple k-modules for
any g-module lying in the parabolic BGG category O^p attached to a
parabolic subalgebra p of g.
Formulas are derived for the Gelfand-Kirillov dimension of any simple
k-module occurring in a simple generalized Verma module of g. We then prove
that the restriction X|_k is multiplicity-free for any generic g-module X \in O
if and only if (g,k) is isomorphic to a direct sum of (A_n,A_{n-1}), (B_n,D_n),
or (D_{n+1},B_n). We also see that the restriction X|_k is multiplicity-free
for any symmetric pair (g, k) and any parabolic subalgebra p with abelian
nilradical and for any generic g-module X \in O^p. Explicit branching laws are

Co-NMR Knight Shift of NaxCoO2 \dot yH2O Studied in Both Superconducting Regions of the Tc-nuQ3 Phase Diagram Divided by the Nonsuperconducting Phase
In the temperature (T)-nuQ3 phase diagram of NaxCoO2 \dot yH2O, there exist
two superconducting regions of nuQ3 separated by the nonsuperconducting region,
where nuQ3 is usually estimated from the peak position of the 59Co-NQR spectra
of the 5/2-7/2 transition and well-approximated here as nuQ3~3nuQ,nuQ being the
interaction energy between the nuclear quadrupole moment and the electric field
gradient. We have carried out measurements of the 59Co-NMR Knight shift (K) for
a single crystal in the higher-nuQ3 superconducting phase and found that K
begins to decrease with decreasing T at Tc for both magnetic field directions
parallel and perpendicular to CoO2-planes. The result indicates together with
the previous ones that the superconducting pairs are in the spin-singlet state
in both phases, excluding the possibility of the spin-triplet superconductivity
in this phase diagram. The superconductivity of this system spreads over the
wide nuQ3 regions, but is suppressed in the narrow region located at the middle

can be constructed either from group algebras and their duals by means

Special functions associated to a certain fourth order differential equation
We develop a theory of "special functions" associated to a certain fourth
order differential operator on depending
on two parameters . For integers with
this operator extends to a self-adjoint operator on
with discrete spectrum. We find a closed
formula for the generating functions of the eigenfunctions, from which we
derive basic properties of the eigenfunctions such as orthogonality,
completeness, -norms, integral representations and various recurrence
relations.
This fourth order differential operator arises as the
radial part of the Casimir action in the Schr\"odinger model of the minimal
representation of the group , and our "special functions" give
-finite vectors
High-tip-speed, low-loading transonic fan stage. Part 3: Final report
Tests were conducted on a high-tip-speed, low-loading transonic fan stage to determine the performance and inlet flow distortion tolerance of the design. The fan was designed for high efficiency at a moderate pressure ratio by designing the hub section to operate at minimum loss when the tip operates with an oblique shock. The design objective was an efficiency of 86 percent at a pressure ratio of 1.5, a specific flow (flow per unit annulus area) of 42 lb/sec-sq. ft (205.1 kgm/sec-m sq), and a tip speed of 1600 ft/sec (488.6 m/sec). During testing, a peak efficiency of 84 percent was achieved at design speed and design specific flow. At the design speed and pressure ratio, the flow was 4 percent greater than design, efficiency was 81 percent, and a stall margin of 24 percent was obtained. The stall line was improved with hub radial distortion but was reduced when the stage was tested with tip radial and circumferential flow distortions. Tests were conducted on a high-tip-speed low-loading transonic fan stage to determine the performance and inlet flow distortion tolerance of the design. Test data were recorded for overall and blade element performance with both uniform and distorted inlet flows. A tabular summary of the data and a representative selection of the computer data reduction sheets are presented
First-Principles Study of Electronic Structure in -(BEDT-TTF)I at Ambient Pressure and with Uniaxial Strain
Within the framework of the density functional theory, we calculate the
electronic structure of -(BEDT-TTF)I at 8K and room temperature
at ambient pressure and with uniaxial strain along the - and -axes. We
confirm the existence of anisotropic Dirac cone dispersion near the chemical
potential. We also extract the orthogonal tight-binding parameters to analyze
physical properties. An investigation of the electronic structure near the
chemical potential clarifies that effects of uniaxial strain along the a-axis
is different from that along the b-axis. The carrier densities show
dependence at low temperatures, which may explain the experimental findings not
only qualitatively but also quantitatively.Comment: 10 pages, 7 figure
