Fake View Analytics in Online Video Services
Online video-on-demand(VoD) services invariably maintain a view count for
each video they serve, and it has become an important currency for various
stakeholders, from viewers, to content owners, advertizers, and the online
service providers themselves. There is often significant financial incentive to
use a robot (or a botnet) to artificially create fake views. How can we detect
the fake views? Can we detect them (and stop them) using online algorithms as
they occur? What is the extent of fake views with current VoD service
providers? These are the questions we study in the paper. We develop some
algorithms and show that they are quite effective for this problem.Comment: 25 pages, 15 figure
Evolution of Magnetism in Single-Crystal Honeycomb Iridates
We report the successful synthesis of single-crystals of the layered iridate,
(NaLi)IrO, , and a thorough study of
its structural, magnetic, thermal and transport properties. The new compound
allows a controlled interpolation between NaIrO and LiIrO,
while maintaing the novel quantum magnetism of the honeycomb Ir planes.
The measured phase diagram demonstrates a dramatic suppression of the N\'eel
temperature, , at intermediate suggesting that the magnetic order in
NaIrO and LiIrO are distinct, and that at , the
compound is close to a magnetically disordered phase that has been sought after
in NaIrO and LiIrO. By analyzing our magnetic data with a
simple theoretical model we also show that the trigonal splitting, on the
Ir ions changes sign from NaIrO and LiIrO, and the
honeycomb iridates are in the strong spin-orbit coupling regime, controlled by
\jeff=1/2 moments.Comment: updated version with more dat
A simple proof of Perelman's collapsing theorem for 3-manifolds
We will simplify earlier proofs of Perelman's collapsing theorem for
3-manifolds given by Shioya-Yamaguchi and Morgan-Tian. Among other things, we
use Perelman's critical point theory (e.g., multiple conic singularity theory
and his fibration theory) for Alexandrov spaces to construct the desired local
Seifert fibration structure on collapsed 3-manifolds. The verification of
Perelman's collapsing theorem is the last step of Perelman's proof of
Thurston's Geometrization Conjecture on the classification of 3-manifolds. Our
proof of Perelman's collapsing theorem is almost self-contained, accessible to

Analysis of the Early-time Optical Spectra of SN 2011fe in M101
The nearby Type Ia supernova (SN Ia) SN 2011fe in M101 (cz = 241 km s^(–1)) provides a unique opportunity to study the early evolution of a "normal" SN Ia, its compositional structure, and its elusive progenitor system. We present 18 high signal-to-noise spectra of SN 2011fe during its first month beginning 1.2 days post-explosion and with an average cadence of 1.8 days. This gives a clear picture of how various line-forming species are distributed within the outer layers of the ejecta, including that of unburned material (C+O). We follow the evolution of C II absorption features until they diminish near maximum light, showing overlapping regions of burned and unburned material between ejection velocities of 10,000 and 16,000 km s^(–1). This supports the notion that incomplete burning, in addition to progenitor scenarios, is a relevant source of spectroscopic diversity among SNe Ia. The observed evolution of the highly Doppler-shifted O I λ7774 absorption features detected within 5 days post-explosion indicates the presence of O I with expansion velocities from 11,500 to 21,000 km s^(–1). The fact that some O I is present above C II suggests that SN 2011fe may have had an appreciable amount of unburned oxygen within the outer layers of the ejecta
High- superconductivity in undoped ThFeAsN
Unlike the widely studied ReFeAsO series, the newly discovered iron-based
superconductor ThFeAsN exhibits a remarkably high critical temperature of 30 K,
without chemical doping or external pressure. Here we investigate in detail its
magnetic and superconducting properties via muon-spin rotation/relaxation
(SR) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) techniques and show that ThFeAsN
exhibits strong magnetic fluctuations, suppressed below 35 K, but no magnetic
order. This contrasts strongly with the ReFeAsO series, where stoichiometric
parent materials order antiferromagnetically and superconductivity appears only
upon doping. The ThFeAsN case indicates that Fermi-surface modifications due to
structural distortions and correlation effects are as important as doping in
inducing superconductivity. The direct competition between antiferromagnetism
and superconductivity, which in ThFeAsN (as in LiFeAs) occurs at already zero
doping, may indicate a significant deviation of the -wave superconducting
gap in this compound from the standard scenario.Comment: 6 pages, 5 figure
Disorder Induced Ferromagnetism in CaRuO3
The magnetic ground state of perovskite structure CaRuO3 has been enigmatic
for decades. Here we show that paramagnetic CaRuO3 can be made ferromagnetic by
very small amounts of partial substitution of Ru by Ti. Magnetic hysteresis
loops are observed at 5 K for as little as 2% Ti substitution. Ti is
non-magnetic and isovalent with Ru, indicating that the primary effect of the
substitution is the disruption of the magnetic ground state of CaRuO3 through
disorder. The data suggest that CaRuO3 is poised at a critical point between
ferromagnetic and paramagnetic ground states
