Allee Demonstration Farm 2001 Report
The Allee Demonstration Farm has become an important educational site for grade school children, 4-H Club members, college graduates, business professionals, and visitors. We encourage everyone to visit the farm to view the sustainable farming practices and livestock production
Organic Broiler Chicken Production Trial Allee Farm, 2001
The Iowa State University Allee Farm is classified as a diversified small grain and livestock operation. Two hundred certified organic Cornish-rock broiler chickens were range fed in 2000. This demonstration provided knowledge of a value-added integrated farm organic system by feeding farm-raised grains to broilers and selling directly to the local consumer

Allee Demonstration Farm Crop and Livestock Report
The advisory committee for the Allee Demonstration Farm has emphasized demonstrating sustainable farm practices on a small farm. The Allee Farm operation consists of 35 certified organic acres, 229 conventional acres, 300 head of market beef cattle, a two-litter (spring and fall) pasture farrowing system with 60–80 sows, finishing swine in three hoop structures, and an organic free-range broiler chicken demonstration project
The rotational velocity of the sdOB primary of the eclipsing binary system LB 3459 (AA Dor)
We present an analysis of the rotational velocity of the primary of LB 3459
based on 107 new high-resolution and high-S/N ESO VLT UVES spectra. 105 of them
cover a complete orbital period (0.26 d) of this binary system. We have
determined an orbital period of P = 22600.702 +/- 0.005 sec, a radial velocity
amplitude of A_1 = 39.19 +/- 0.05 km/sec, and T_0 = 2451917.152690 +/-
0.000005. From simulations of the He II 4686A line profile (based on NLTE model
atmosphere calculations), we derive v_rot = 47 +/- 5 km/sec.
We present an animation which shows the orbital movement of the binary
system, its synthetic lightcurve, and compares the phase-dependent variation of
the predicted with the observed He II 4686A line profile.
The radius of the cool component is almost the same size like Jupiter but its
mass is about 70 times higher than Jupiter's mass. Thus, from its present mass
(M_2 = 0.066 M_sun), the secondary of LB 3459 lies formally within the
brown-dwarf mass range (0.013 - 0.08 M_sun). It might be a former planet which
has survived the previous common-envelope phase and even has gained mass.Comment: 7 pages, 11 Postscript figures, to appear in A&
Low Linolenic Soybean Plots
This project is designed to compare the yields of the new Iowa State low linolenic soybean varieties with soybean varieties commonly grown as food grade soybeans for specialty markets near the Allee Research Farm, Newell, Iowa. The Allee Research Farm is the zone for group 2 maturity range soybeans. The new IA2064 low linolenic soybean variety is adapted to this zone. Producers need performance data to help evaluate the premium offered for growing the new soybeans. Premiums are designed to cover yield drag and identity preservation costs
