    Efficient Hardware Implementation of Probabilistic Gradient Descent Bit Flipping

    This paper presents a new Bit Flipping (BF) decoder, called Probabilistic Parallel Bit Flipping (PPBF) for Low-Density Parity-Check (LDPC) codes on the Binary Symmetric Channel. In PPBF, the flipping operation is preceded with a probabilistic behavior which is shown to improve significantly the error correction performance. The advantage of PPBF comes from the fact that, no global computation is required during the decoding process and from that, all the computations can be executed in the local computing units and in-parallel. PPBF provides a considerable improvement of the decoding frequency and complexity, compared to other known BF decoders, while obtaining a significant gain in error correction. One improved version of PPBF, called non-syndrome PPBF (NS-PPBF) is also introduced, in which the global syndrome check is moved out of the critical path and a new terminating mechanism is proposed. In order to show the superiority of the new decoders in terms of hardware efficiency and decoding throughput, the corresponding hardware architectures are presented in the second part of the paper. The ASIC synthesis results confirm that, the decoding frequency of the proposed decoders is significantly improved, much higher than the BF decoders of literature while requiring lower complexity to be efficiently implemented

    Anthraquinone functionalized carbon composite electrode: Application to ammonia sensing

    A simple strategy has been used to covalently modify the glassy carbon spheres with anthraquinone moieties through the diazonium salt reduction. The derivatized glassy carbon spheres were used to modify the basal plane pyrolytic graphite electrode by immobilizing them on its surface and examining its electrochemical behaviour. The composite electrode has been used to detect trace level ammonia in the concentration range 5 à 10-8 to 3 à 10-5 M and it was successfully applied to detect low levels of ammonia present in natural samples like urine and soil. © 2011 Elsevier B.V.     BLUR-INVARIANT COPY-MOVE FORGERY DETECTION TECHNIQUE WITH IMPROVED DETECTION ACCURACY UTILIZING SWT-SVD

    With the increase in interchange of data, there is a growing necessity of security. Considering the volumes of digital data that is transmitted, they are in need to be secure. Among the many forms of tampering possible, one widespread technique is Copy Move Forgery (CMF). This forgery occurs when parts of the image are copied and duplicated elsewhere in the same image. There exist a number of algorithms to detect such a forgery in which the primary step involved is feature extraction. The feature extraction techniques employed must have lesser time and space complexity involved for an efficient and faster processing of media. Also, majority of the existing state of art techniques often tend to falsely match similar genuine objects as copy move forged during the detection process. To tackle these problems, the paper proposes a novel algorithm that recognizes a unique approach of using Hu’s Invariant Moments and Log-polar Transformations to reduce feature vector dimension to one feature per block simultaneously detecting CMF among genuine similar objects in an image. The qualitative and quantitative results obtained demonstrate the effectiveness of this algorithm

    Variation of Radon Progeny Concentration over a Continental Location

    Background: The variation of the radon progeny concentration in outdoor environment and meteorological parameters at fine resolution were studied for one year at a continental location, National Atmospheric Research Laboratory, Gadanki, India.Materials and Methods: The concentrations were measured using Alpha Progeny Meter by collecting air samples at a height of 1 m above the Earth’s surface at a known flow rate. Results: Radon progeny concentration shows temporal variations on diurnal and monthly scales, and is due to mixing in the atmosphere. Peak in the early morning hours and low values during afternoon compared to nighttime are due to differential heat contrast between earth’s surface and its atmosphere. However, the activity during February shows maximum compared to June/July months.The diurnal variation of radon progeny shows positive correlation with the relative humidity and negative correlation with ambient temperature.The monthly mean activity of radon progeny for the year 2012 was found to be 4.76 ± 0.73 mWL. Conclusion: The mean concentration of radon progeny in the study region is relatively high compared to the other locations in India and may be due to the rocky terrains and trapping of air-masses near the observation site due to its topography

    A prospective comparative study of functional outcome of distal extra articular tibia fracture fixed with intramedullary nail versus locking compression plate

    Background: Distal tibia fractures are one of the most common long bone fractures and their management presents with a series of problems due to the soft tissue surroundings and even more at risk due to their proximity to ankle joint. In our paper we showed functional outcome of distal extra articular tibia fracture while comparing its management between intramedullary nailing and locking compression plate.Methods: There were 40 patients from November 2019 to November 2020 with distal extra articular tibia fracture. Patients were divided into 2 groups, first group included 20 patients managed with intramedullary nail and the second group included 20 patients managed with locking compression plate. Patients were followed preoperatively, intraoperatively and postoperatively for functional outcome and assessed clinically using AOFAS score and radiologically using X-ray.Results: Out of the 40 cases treated in this manner, all cases were available for the follow up for a period of 1 year. Overall results by 1 year follow up showed excellent in 7 cases (35%) good in 13 cases (65%) in nailing group and in plating group showed excellent in 4 cases (20%), good in 12 cases (60%), fair in 3 cases (15%) and poor in 1 case (5%).Conclusions: All fractures united well. Complications were encountered in 4 patients, 2 patients had superficial wound infections,1 patient had deep infection and another had persistent ankle pain in plating group and 2 patients had superficial wound infection in nailing group. No cases showed malunion or nonunion in both plating as well as nailing group

    Cowpea, Vigna unguiculata (L.) is one of the important grain and fodder legume crops in the world, especially in tropics and subtropics. Which can adapted different climatic conditions such as high temperature and drought. It is not only important as a grain and fodder but also improve fertility of poor soils by fixing atmospheric nitrogen. An estimated cultivated area of cowpea is 12.5mha in worldwide (FAOSTAT, 2013). The grain and fodder productivity of cowpea are greatly affected by a number of biotic factors such as plant pathogens and insect pests. Among plant pathogens, viruses are considered to be a major constraint (Gioi et al., 2010). More than 40 viruses are reported from cowpea growing areas of the world. Among viruses, Bean common mosaic virus (BCMV) is very serious problem on cowpea in southern part of India especially cowpea growing areas of Karnataka. The BCMV is a member of potyvirus group and it can infect other legume crop family. Virus is seed borne and easily spread by aphids. Its chemical and cultural control neither economical nor ecofriendly. The host plant resistance has been proved the best strategy for its management. Hence it is necessary to identify stable resistance sources for BCMV disease in cowpea. Therefore large scale screening is needed to identify the durable resistance among diverse genotypes of cowpea. The basic requirements for any crop improvement programme are genetic variation for the trait of interest

    Brahmi herbal drink mitigates aluminium chloride induced cognitive impairments

    Aluminium chloride (AlCl3) is neurotoxic and has been proposed to be one of the environmental factors responsible for neurodegenerative disease like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disorders. It also causes learning and memory deficit. Bacopa monniera is well known for its memory enhancing property in traditional Indian system of medicine. In the present investigation we aim to evaluate cognitive-enhancing and neuromodulatory property of brahmi herbal drink (BHD), a nutraceutical product from Bacopa monniera extract. BHD was evaluated for physicochemical, sensory attributes and stability studies. Overall acceptability of BHD was good according to hedonic scale/ratings. Stability of the drink is for 6 months without losing its activity. Further, cognitive enhancing and neuromodulatory propensity of BHD was evaluated against AlCl3 treatment in rats. Administration of AlCl3 (100 mg/kg) daily for 23 days significantly increased cognitive impairment as evaluated in elevated plus maze (EPM) and Morris water maze (MWM) tests. BHD supplementation improved cognitive ability by decreasing the transfer and escape latency of EPM and MWM tests respectively. Our results further elucidate that BHD supplementation decreased acetylcholine esterase activity and nitric oxide levels by down-regulating AChE and iNOS expression respectively. BHD supplementation showed it neuroprotective efficacy by up-regulating BDNF expression. AlCl3 induced lipid peroxidation and reactive oxygen species generation was significantly alleviated by BHD and restored antioxidant status levels. All these results demonstrated the cognitive-enhancing and neuromodulatory potential of BHD in counteracting the damage inflicted by AlCl3 on rat brain

    A new secure multipath routing using sub-set of overlay nodes to minimize delay

    We study overlay architecture for dynamic routing, such that only a subset of devices (overlay nodes) need to make the dynamic routing decisions. We determine the essential collection of nodes that must bifurcate traffic for achieving the maximum multi-commodity network throughput.  We apply our optimal node placement algorithm to several graphs and the results show that a small segment of overlay nodes is sufficient for achieving maximum throughput. we propose a threshold-based policy (BP-T) and a heuristic policy (OBP),which dynamically control traffic bifurcations at overlay nodes. Policy BP-T is proved to maximize throughput for the case when underlay paths do no overlap

    Biological relationship of Bean common mosaic virus (BCMV) infecting cowpea with leguminous plant species

    Bean common mosaic virus (BCMV) associated with cowpea mechanically inoculated to different legumi-nous plants. Out of nineteen including cowpea Var.C-152, the virus was easily transferred to ten different legumi-nous hosts. All other hosts assessed for the presence of BCMV were found to be uninfected. The number of days taken for symptom expression and symptoms were varied within plant species. Pole bean expressed mosaic symp-tom after long incubation period (15-18 days) whereas, shorter incubation period was observed in common bean and rice bean (7- 10 days). BCMV produced chlorosis, mosaic, leaf distortion, puckering, vein banding, vein clearing and vein netting on cowpea(C-152). A typical virus symptom, mosaic was observed in green gram, common bean, lime bean, rice bean and yard long bean, whereas, leaf rolling and leaf distortion was observed in black gram, pole bean and snap bean. The virus-host relationship was confirmed by back inoculation test to C. amaranticolor. Further symptomatic plants were subjected for Reverse Transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) for molecular confirmation using BCMV coat protein (CP) specific primer pair. A PCR fragment size of 439bp was amplified for the symptomatic plants. The results generated indicated the ability of a plant to support virus expression and host speci-ficity of BMCV within the leguminous plant species
