Back ground: Emergency contraceptive is a type of modern contraception that is indicated after un-protected sexual practice or due to contraceptive failure. Although Emergency contraceptive prevent unwanted pregnancy and its consequences like unsafe abortion and unintended child birth, there is no information about the knowledge and practice of Emergence contraceptive among young females in the study area. Objective: The aim of this study is to assess the knowledge and practice of Emergence contraceptive among female students of Ejere high school and preparatory school. Method: A facility based cross sectional study design was conducted among 270 Ejere high school and preparatory school female students from April 1-15 of 2015. A simple random sampling technique was used to select the study subjects until the required sample size was collected. Then the collected data was analyzed and presented in tables, figures and narratives. Results: From the total respondents, about 116 (43%) of the respondents were replied as they have heard about emergence contraceptives and only 44 (38%) and 14 (22%) of the respondents were knowledgeable and ever practiced emergency contraceptive respectively. Among those sexually active respondents (23.7%), some of the reasons why they were not using ECs are lack of knowledge about ECs, no desire to use the methods and due to religious reasons. Conclusion: The study indicated that the knowledge and utilization level of emergency contraceptives among the respondents were low. Therefore, Ejere woreda health office in collaboration with Ejere educational office should work on awareness creation about emergency contraceptives, when it was used, its advantage to prevent unwanted pregnancy and its damaging consequences after unprotected sex among the young female students. Innovation in Economic Education

(First paragraph) Economic integration in the K-16 space is one facet of the American education system that depicts inadequacy yet potential. Mary Beth Henning alongside several educational specialists and economists illustrate how economics can be taught in a multidisciplinary manner through the mandated disciplines, such as math, reading, and history. The authors of this book demonstrate the need for students to develop an economic way of thinking through three themes focusing on: interdisciplinary integration of economics, blended learning, and economic educator preparation. I would highly recommend this book to K-16 educators looking to integrate economics into core academic subjects through age-appropriate and relevant examples intending to promote economic ways of thinking among students

Marine Marvels: Investigating the Interplay of Ecology and Technology in Advancing Marine Science

This comprehensive study explores the intricate interplay between ecological understanding and technological proficiency in the context of marine science, with a specific focus on collaboration effectiveness among professionals. Motivated by the imperative to address contemporary challenges in marine ecosystems, our research integrates insights from previous studies and employs a purposive sampling technique to investigate the relationships among these critical variables. Building upon existing literature, we find a robust positive correlation between ecological research understanding and technological proficiency, highlighting the foundational role of ecological literacy in optimizing technological tools. Our study also reveals nuanced disparities in technological proficiency between scientists and policymakers, underscoring the need for targeted capacity-building initiatives. The implications of our findings extend to educational programs, collaborative initiatives, and institutional practices within the marine science community. In conclusion, our research provides a holistic perspective on the synergies between ecological and technological facets, laying a foundation for informed practices and collaborative strategies in marine science research and conservation efforts

Soul Simplicity: An Inquiry into Dance, Women and Islam

    Get PDF
Islam has guidelines and rules that its followers must abide by in order to fulfill the tenets of the religion. Lawful acts are labeled “al-halal” and the unlawful and prohibited are “al-haram.” Many al-haram activities affect Muslim women specifically – particularly some leisure activities, such as listening to music and dancing. For example, Islam does not permit activities that can be perceived as “erotic” or “arousing male passions.” Elder Muslim women guide and supervise younger women in order to pass along religious morals and values from generation to generation. I am the product of this tradition and my research is an inquiry into this cultural convention. Given the strict rules regulating many leisure activities, I sought to answer the following: Is dancing, specifically by women in Islam, an activity that is “al-halal” or “al-haram”? The purpose of this project is to research the Qur’an (Islam’s sacred book), interpretations by Imams (Muslim scholars), and other religions in order to clarify whether or not dancing is subjected as “al-halal” or “al-haram.” Though, I am a woman of faith whose passion for dance is a critical aspect of my identity, it’s imperative that I discover whether or not my religion and my passion for dance are compatible. The results of this research will dictate the direction the remainder my life takes

Black holes die hard: can one spin-up a black hole past extremality?

A possible process to destroy a black hole consists on throwing point particles with sufficiently large angular momentum into the black hole. In the case of Kerr black holes, it was shown by Wald that particles with dangerously large angular momentum are simply not captured by the hole, and thus the event horizon is not destroyed. Here we reconsider this gedanken experiment for a variety of black hole geometries, from black holes in higher dimensions to black rings. We show that this particular way of destroying a black hole does not succeed and that Cosmic Censorship is preserved.Comment: 10 pages, 7 figures. RevTex4

Birth weight pattern and factors affecting birth weight in urban areas of South-Western Ethiopia

    Get PDF
Abstract: A community-based cross-sectional study of birth-weight was carried out in 30 villages of Jimma Zone, to determine the pattern of birth weight, its relationship with ante-natal care, and the influencing factors in birth-weight. A total of 537 mother-newborn pairs were included in the study revealing an overall low birth weight rate of 10.6%. About 72% of the mothers were booked for ante-natal care during the current pregnancy, and 332 (86%) of the deliveries were attended by trained personnel, including trained traditional birth attendants. Mean birth-weight for both sexes was 3,202 grams; and there was no statistically significant difference between the sexes (P>0.05). Higher mean birth weight was observed for newborns whose mothers attended ante-natal clinic and whose births were attended by trained personnel than those mothers without ante-natal care and unattended by trained personnel (P<0.05). Low birth weight was associated with being single, poor, without ante-natal care and not attended by trained personnel during delivery. Efforts to increase the utilization of ante-natal care services is recommended to minimize the risk of low birth-weight as it will help the timely correction of factors predicting low birth weight.
