Osterwold inquires into the essence - the physical and organic properties and figurative meaning - of Laib's work via ontology and the sense of ritual, metaphor and image. Cladders makes more specific analogies with Western artists and art movements, Christianity and Japanese and Chinese culture. Müller discusses Laib's use of pollen, milk, rice, copper, marble and beeswax in terms of the artist's meditative process and its sensory effect on the viewer, as does Szeemann who comments on the spiritual motivation in art and adds a number of biographical details. 4 bibl. ref
