    Separation and identification of antibacterial chamomile components using OPLC, bioautography and GC-MS

    Components of 50% ethanolic chamomile (Matricaria recutica L.) flower extract, previously found antibacterial in a TLC-bioautographic study, were separated and isolated by the use of on-line OPLC, which consisted of an OPLC 50 BS system, an on-line coupled flow-through UV detector, and a manual fraction collector. The collected peaks were investigated by GC-MS analysis and by TLC re-chromatography with subsequent visualization, performed after use of the vanillin-sulphuric acid reagent, or under UV illumination, or applying bioautographic detection. The main compounds of the collected 11 fractions were identified by GC-MS. The results showed that the antibacterial effect of 50% ethanolic extract of chamomile is ascribable to cis-, trans-spiroethers, and the coumarins like herniarin and umbelliferone

    In-situ Clean-up and OPLC Fractionation of Chamomile Flower Extract Searching Active Components by Bioautography

    Bioassay-guided isolation of antibacterial components of chamomile flower methanol extract was performed by OPLC with on-line detection, fractionation combined with sample clean-up in-situ in the adsorbent bed after sample application. The antibacterial effect of the fractions and the separated compounds remained on the adsorbent layer (do not overrun during OPLC separation) was tested with direct bioautography (DB) against the bioluminescent Pseudomonas savastanoi pv. maculicola and Vibrio fischeri. The fractions with great biologically activity were analysed by SPME-GC-MS and LC-MS/MS and the two active uneluted compounds were characterized by OPLC-MS using interface. Mainly essential oil components, coumarins, flavonoids, phenolic acids and fatty acids were identified in the fractions

    Coherent states on spheres

    We describe a family of coherent states and an associated resolution of the identity for a quantum particle whose classical configuration space is the d-dimensional sphere S^d. The coherent states are labeled by points in the associated phase space T*(S^d). These coherent states are NOT of Perelomov type but rather are constructed as the eigenvectors of suitably defined annihilation operators. We describe as well the Segal-Bargmann representation for the system, the associated unitary Segal-Bargmann transform, and a natural inversion formula. Although many of these results are in principle special cases of the results of B. Hall and M. Stenzel, we give here a substantially different description based on ideas of T. Thiemann and of K. Kowalski and J. Rembielinski. All of these results can be generalized to a system whose configuration space is an arbitrary compact symmetric space. We focus on the sphere case in order to be able to carry out the calculations in a self-contained and explicit way.Comment: Revised version. Submitted to J. Mathematical Physic

    Studies on the maize cold tolerance tests in the MartonvĂĄsĂĄr phytotron

    The climatic conditions in Hungary and in the countries to which seed is exported makes the study of maize cold tolerance and constant improvements in the cold tolerance of MartonvĂĄsĂĄr hybrids especially important. An improvement in the early spring cold tolerance of maize would allow it to be grown in more northern areas with a cooler climate, while on traditional maize-growing areas the profitability of maize production could be improved by earlier sowing, leading to a reduction in transportation and drying costs and in diseases caused by Fusarium sp. The recognition of this fact led MartonvĂĄsĂĄr researchers to start investigating this subject nearly four decades ago. The phytotron has proved an excellent tool for studying and improving the cold tolerance of maize. The review will give a brief summary of the results achieved in the field of maize cold tolerance in the MartonvĂĄsĂĄr institute in recent decades

    Internal conflicts in psychoeducation for parents of children with ADHD: discours analysis

    BACKGROUND: Psychoeducation plays an important role in how people understand their own psychiatric classification. Since children and parents see psychoeducation as a representation of how their story is understood by the therapist, it affects the therapeutic alliance. Moreover, psychoeducation indirectly shapes the way society understands psychological differences. AIM: To understand how the classification ADHD is given meaning through psychoeducation. METHOD: We analyzed the discourse of 41 written psychoeducational materials from four different countries (USA, UK, the Netherlands and Hungary). RESULTS: We identified five patterns, of which four contained an element of internal conflict. Notably, conflicts were found within a single thematic stance on ADHD as opposed to a conflict between parties with a different vision on ADHD. CONCLUSION: These conflicts cause confusion, misrepresentation and decontextualization of problems. Ultimately, for those diagnosed with ADHD and their parents, this may hamper their ability to understand themselves in the context of their difficulties

    Characterization of Francisella tularensis Strains, Comparing Their Carbon Source Utilization

    ThirteenFrancisella tularensisstrains were isolated from 22 seropositive brownhares (Lepus europaeus) originating from different parts of Hungary, and fur-ther two from a patas monkey (Erythrocebus patas) and vervet monkey (Chlorocebus aethiops). The isolates were identified asF. tularensisssp.holarcticaonthe basis of culture, morphological and biochemical characteristics. The identi-fication was verified by polymerase chain reaction and the sequencing of thepartial 16S rRNA gene. Utilization of carbon sources of the 15 F. tularensisstrains was characterized with the Biolog system. The system was able to iden-tify the strains already after 4 h of incubation, not only after the standard 24 h. After the analysis and comparison of the metabolic profiles of our strains withthe Biolog database, it was concluded that not all carbon sources indicated inthe database were utilized by our isolates. The Biolog software fails to distin-guish the highly virulent F. tularensisssp.tularensisand the moderately virulent F. tularensisssp.holarcticabut the Biolog microplates can be manually read todifferentiate the two subspecies based on glycerol source utilization. As all thestudied strains were unable to use glycerol, they could be identified asF. tular-ensisssp.holarctica. The dendrogram based on the metabolic relationship ofthe strains shows that the isolates are very similar to each other, which corre-lates with the conservative genetic character of F. tularensisssp.holarctica
