Bibliometric Review of Mental Health Research in Medical Colleges of Pakistan

Objectives: Mental health is a less frequently explored area of medical research as both developing and developed countries lack competent human resources and funding for this purpose. Reviewing mental health research can help medical professionals appreciate the progress of understanding and identify problems in this area. This systematic review examined the status of mental health research carried out in medical education institutions and tertiary healthcare hospitals across Pakistan over the past 70 years. Methods: PubMed ® (National Library of Medicine, Bethesda, Maryland, USA), was searched for articles published between 1947 and 2017 related to mental health with an emphasis on the exclusive affiliation of the first author with a medical college in Pakistan. Results: A total of 118 articles were included in this study. The number of published research-based studies has increased steadily over the past years. However, there are indicators of a lack of quality research, such as no declaration of conflict of interest or the identification of a funding source and a general lack of publications in a journal with a high impact factor. Conclusion: The findings of this study have shown a steady improvement in the quantity and quality of mental health research conducted in Pakistani medical colleges/universities. However, a lack of funding, training and faculty induction policies may be hindering the establishment of a research culture and contributing to the slow progression of mental health research in Pakistan.Keywords: Medical Education; Mental Health; Research; Psychiatry in Literature; Pakistan

Historical Evolution of Shia Urdu Majalis in Pakistan

Shia majalis is a broad term which encompasses variety of religious gatherings adorned with diversity of speech acts. In Pakistan, Shia majalis are performed into different lingual and cultural backgrounds. Urdu majalis surpass the rest of lingual expressions in the popularity and number of performances. This paper, after describing the language based ontological and epistemological differences in the performance of majalis, argues that a remarkable change has been occurred in the composition and commencement of Urdu Shia Majalis over a period of time. It intends to bring the language in majalis discourse by analytically explaining the historical evolution of Urdu majalis. It maintains that Urdu majalis have gone through existential changes over the course of time. These changes can be periodically categorized in the reformatory, polemical and excommunicative trends in Urdu majalis in an evolutionary manner. Sero-negative celiac disease with dermatitis herpetiformes: a case report

Introduction:We report a case of sero-negative celiac disease in Pakistan. Case Presentation: A 20-year-old female presented with papulovesicular rash for 15 years, diarrhea for 8 years, spasms of hands and twitching of face for 4-5 months. She had mild anemia, low vitamin-D3 and serum calcium. On exclusion of other causes of malabsorption, anti-tissue transglutaminase antibodies (immunoglobulin-A & immunoglobulin-G), anti-endomysial antibodies, total immunoglobulin-A levels and skin biopsy were performed, which were normal. Intestinal biopsy revealed subtotal villous atrophy. Patient was prescribed gluten-free diet, to which she responded with alleviation of symptoms. Conclusions: Negative serology should not rule out celiac disease, intestinal biopsy should be performed if there is strong clinical suspicion

The study meant to explore the external and internal factors which influence firm’s profitability i.e. “Firm and Industry Effects on Firm Profitability”. In this research ROA and ROE has taken as profitability measure and their dependency has checked with firm effect, industry effect and market share. Data has extracted from “Balance Sheet Analysis of Joint Stock Companies Listed on the Karachi Stock Exchange Volume-II 2004-2009” which is state bank of Pakistan publications and it represents six year financial statements of the firms. By using Regression analysis technique result has found which represent that all three independent factor i.e. firm effect, industry effect and market share are significant with ROA and ROE
