    Effect of Integrated Supply of different fertilizers and compost on Total Yield of Andrographis paniculata at Harvesting Stage

    The present investigation was carried out to study the effects of Bio fertilizers, Chemical Fertilizers and Vermicompost and their combination on the Productivity of Andrographis paniculata. The experiment  was  conducted  in a  randomized block design (RBD) with 8 treatments i.e. T1-NT, T2- VC, T3-BF, T4-CF, T5-BF+VC, T6-BF+CF, T7 - CF +  VC, T8 - BF+CF+VC. The experimental results revealed that maximum fresh and dried weight of root, shoot and leaves individually as well as total weight of all the parts and maximum seed yield was obtained in T8 treatments followed by T5 plot treatment. Thus it can be concluded that integrated combination of organic manures along with BF and CF results into improved plant productivity and seed yield

    Role of monocyte and lymphocyte counts in prognosis of cervical cancer

    Background: Inflammation seems to play a very crucial role in the growth and progression of many cancers. It has been reported that a peripheral blood count has been used as a cost-effective and simple parameter of systemic inflammation in critically ill patients. The aim of this study is to investigate whether components of WBC counts can predict the prognosis of patients with cervical cancer.Methods: Medical records of 549 cervical cancer patients diagnosed between 1 January 2008 to 31 December 2008 were retrospectively analyzed. Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis and Cox proportional hazards model were applied to evaluate the effect of white blood cell (WBC) counts on overall survival.Results: The 5-year overall survival of the cohort was found to be 67.7%. On the basis of univariate analysis elevated monocyte count (≥0.515 109/L) and lower lymphocyte count (≤2.075 109/L) were associated with poor overall survival (OS) (p=0.016 and 0.002 respectively). Multivariate Cox proportional hazard analysis showed that higher monocyte and lower lymphocyte levels were a significant independent predictors for worse OS (HR = 1.555, 95% CI = 1.125-2.149; P=0.008) and (HR = 1.712, 95% CI = 1.232-2.379; P= 0.001) respectively. The advanced overall stage and treatment were also found to be independent indicators for poor OS.Conclusions: Pretreatment monocyte and lymphocyte count is an independent predictor of prognosis in cervical cancer patients. Thus it may be a cost effective marker to predict the outcome of cervical cancer patients

Licensee MDPI, Basel, Switzerland.This work investigates the degradation of the azo dye solochrome dark blue (SDB) by measurement of the photocatalytic, sonocatalytic and sonophotocatalytic activities, under low ultrasonic frequency (40 kHz) and UV-C (254 nm) light, using Mn-doped ZnS semiconductor quantum dots (Mn2+:ZnS Qds) as catalysts, prepared by a simple chemical precipitation procedure. In order to study the different morphological and optical crystal properties, various characterization techniques were used, such as high resolution transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray analysis, X-ray diffraction, N2 adsorption-desorption at −196 °C and ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy. The average particle size of the semiconductor Qds was in the range of 3–4 nm. The optimal parameters affecting dye degradation, such as the catalyst loading, solution pH, time of irradiation, initial concentration of dye, dopant concentration, ultrasonic power and frequency effect were evaluated. The synthesized catalytic material exhibited a high activity for sonophotocatalytic degradation of SDB (89%), larger than that observed for sonocatalysis (69.7%) or photocatalysis (55.2%) alone, which was due to the improved electron-holes separation, formation of more reactive radicals and enhancement of the active surface area. Qds showed good stability and reusability after five repeated cycles. Finally, the degradation products were identified by liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS).publishersversionpublishe

    COVID-19 PANDEMIC: A SYSTEMATIC REVIEW ON THE CORONAVIRUSES OF ANIMALS AND SARS-CoV-2

    Coronaviruses (CoVs), classified into four genera, viz., alpha-, beta-, gamma-, and Delta- CoV, represent an important group of diverse transboundary pathogens that can infect a variety of mammalian and avian species including humans, animals, poultry, and non-poultry birds. CoVs primarily infect lung and gut epithelial cells, besides monocytes and macrophages. CoVs have high mutation rates causing changes in host specificity, tissue tropism, and mode of virus excretion and transmissions. The recent CoV zoonoses are SARS, MERS, and COVID-19 that are caused by the transmission of beta-CoVs of bats to humans.  Recently, reverse zoonoses of the COVID-19 virus have been detected in dogs, tigers, and minks. Beta-CoV strains also infect bovine (BCoV) and canine species (CRCoV); both these beta-CoVs might have originated from a common ancestor. Despite the high genetic similarity between BCoV, CRCoV, and HCoV-OC43, these differ in species specificity. Alpha-CoV strains infect canine (CCoV), feline (FIPV), swine (TGEV and PEDV), and humans (HCoV229E and NL63). Six coronavirus species are known to infect and cause disease in pigs, seven in human beings, and two in dogs. The high mutation rate in CoVs is attributed to error-prone 3′-5′ exoribonuclease (NSP 14), and genetic recombination to template shift by the polymerase. The present compilation describes the important features of the CoVs and diseases caused in humans, animals, and birds that are essential in surveillance of diverse pool of CoVs circulating in nature, and monitoring interspecies transmission, zoonoses, and reverse zoonoses
