Techniques are described herein for highly optimized 4G/5G inter-working and seamless mobility within dual access connectivity networks. Briefly, mobile providers deploying 5G in a dense area are very likely to have coverage holes. Those coverage holes may be efficiently managed using Smart Area Lists (SmALs)

A solution is presented for a cost-effective way of providing redundancy for a user equipment (UE) session while utilizing resources of an active and a standby user plane function (UPF). UPFs are used efficiently by creating redundancy for each other with support from a session management function (SMF). The solution further enhances N:M redundancy. This model is fully applicable for edge UPF deployments where resources are limited. The solution can be used for providing ultra-reliable low latency communication services, enterprise services based applications supported using 5G core in which there is higher service level agreement (SLA) bearing and transport path diversity

Mobile service providers are deploying 5G technology with network slicing to enable different business use cases. Presented herein are techniques to implement network slicing. In a first technique, a 1:1 mapping is made between the s-Network Slice Selection Assistance Information (NSSAI) subscribed by the User Equipment (UE) in the 5G network to the UE usage type (UUT) in the Home Subscriber Server (HSS), along with the subscribed priority of the slices per UE. This is sent to the Mobility Management Entity (MME). In a second technique, an N:1 mapping between is made between the s-NSSAI\u27s subscribed by the UE in the 5G network to the UUT in the HSS, along with the subscribed priority of the slices per UE. The same is sent to the MME as a unique UUT value which is an operator specific value
