One of the challenges to improve the quality of construction industry is through the application of Value Management concept that should be practiced by the construction industry players. Value Management and life cycle cost concept should be practiced in procurement and making decision; not only at the inception stage but to consider the whole life cycle cost of construction project.The application of Value Management can optimize the cost for the necessary quality (Construction Industry Master Plan, 2006-2015). Nevertheless, what is the Malaysian construction industry player’s level of knowledge towards the Value Management concept in the realization of its application to improve Malaysian construction industry? Therefore, this study has been carried out to identify the consultant organizational level of knowledge towards Value Management concept in Kedah construction industry.Besides, this study try to identify the Value Management application rate by those consultant.This study also try to investigate the factors that encourage and inhibit the Value Management application in Kedah construction industry.Questionnaires have been distributed to 46 consultant organizations with 31 organizations have given their feedback

Learning mechanism used in strengthening local automotive vendor's absorptive capacity

in attaining competitive advantage, inevitably, firms had to innovate. The development of innovation capability was crucial for firms to stay in competition.In developing firm innovation capability, absorptive capacity and learning mechanism were important factors.Absorptive capacity is built through accumulation of prior knowledge base and internalization of the knowledge in an organization. The purpose of the study was to describe learning approch used by firms in strengthening local automotive vendor's absorptive capacity.This paper also explored one component of absorptive capacity named firm's knowledge base,The research design used in this descriptive study was quantitative method with questionnaires mailed to the respondents. The sampling technique for this study was random sampling with a sample size of 113 automotive component manufacturers,who supplied automotive parts to various car assemblers and manufacturers.Out of 113 automotive manufacturers,only 45 respondents responded to the survey sent to them.The results of the study indicated the level of manufacturers' absorptive capacities was high in the project management,product development performance measurement,cost benefit analysis and early production output evaluation areas.In addition,the learning mechanism adopted by most of the manufacturers were interacting among employees in the R&D or engineering department as a means for them of solve problem related to product development design and acquiring knowledge in PDD through documenting explicit knowledge in a manual or product catalogue.The implication of this study was the manufacturer needed to improve their knowledge absorption capacities through proposed learning mechanisms

Green building technology delay factor in Malaysia construction industry

This research is for identify the primary causes effect of delay in green building constructions project in Malaysia with study several article who are related with delay factor in green building constructions. This research involved several countries related. There are two objectives to this study they are to investigate and identify the delay factor in green building development in Malaysia and to investigate the trend of green building in Malaysia construction industry. The result was come from systematic method or study case. It shows in 20 articles related with green building. The analysis of the data then provided three frameworks or subject for delay factors. They are Cost to implement the green building in project, lack of knowledge and information and people. These three subjects have different variable related with it and every once framework is clarified and explain in detail. These three frameworks also merged and added in the literature review. Again, the different components related is discussed in detail

Integrated project delivery framework for sustainable campus development: A qualitative study on JPP UUM

At present, the frameworks to improve construction design team integration have seldom included the solution for sustainability challenges within design for buildings.This challenge is even greater in achieving sustainability in campus universities such as UUM, where high volume of users and activities has made it more imperative to promote green buildings that reduce energy and water consumption while having a minimal carbon footprint.Therefore, in response to that challenge this paper investigates how the delivery team, responsible for the design and construction of a project, can be integrated to work together more efficiently and effectively. The process will involve a comprehensive review of secondary sources of data, including reports, principles, tools and guidelines that particularly relate to the best practice of team integration such as Design and Build, Concurrent Engineering (CE), Partnering, and Integrated Project Delivery (IPD).The review of these practices will contribute to the development of a conceptual guideline/framework for improving campus sustainability, particularly in the early stage (planning and design) of UUM construction projects, which will be validated through qualitative methods in an on-going research project.The outcome or result of this research will meet and support the requirement of construction, maintenance, and operation process for ‘JPP UUM’ towards sustainable building/campus in the future

Effectiveness of HIV/AIDS educational intervention in increasing knowledge, attitude and practices for primary school teachers in some part of Africa

Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is virus that weakens the immune system of the body through destruction of the white blood cells. Whereas, AIDS term as; acquired immune deficiency syndrome is a disease due to the infection of HIV. Knowledge of health, and practices among teachers of primary school are scanty. Studies indicated that few teachers have heard or even became aware that HIV/AIDS is a viral infectious, and some of them lacked the knowledge about its mode of transmission with low attitudinal behaviours. Thus, this review paper discusses some health promotion measures and relevant information regarding, how the use of educational intervention in primary school teachers, could help in reducing the incidence cases of HIV/AIDS in Africa. We therefore recommend effective educational intervention programmes should be set for primary school teachers, in order that the teachers and the students could have a sound knowledge of health practices that will change their attitude which in turn reduce the risk of HIV/AIDS transmission

Model kesediaan (readiness) ke atas teknologi sistem keamatan padi: Kajian ke atas petani luar bandar

Perubahan amalan kebiasaan sesuatu komuniti kepada amalan baru tentunya mempunyai episodnya yang tersendiri.Dari sudut pengurusan, perubahan ini akan melibatkan teknologi penerimaan dan teknologi kesediaan.Dengan itu, kajian ini dilaksanakan untuk mengkaji sejauh mana teori tingkahlaku yang dirancang dapat menerangkan kesediaan petani kawasan luar bandar di daerah Sik untuk berubah menggunakan teknik SRI dalam penanaman padi. Kajian ini bersifat penerokaan dan kaedah temubual dan pemerhatian dilakukan.Dapatan kajian boleh dibahagikan kepada dua bahagian iaitu kajian awal dan kajian sebenar.Kajian awal dilakukan untuk mengenalpasti soalan, prosedur dan responden yang bersesuaian.Dapatan kajian awal juga telah mengenalpasti teknik penanaman padi yang digunakan responden di kawasan tersebut adalah kaedah SRI. Kajian sebenar mendapati kesediaan pengguna terhadap kaedah SRI boleh ditentukan oleh faktor sikap, faktor norma subjektif dan persepsi kawalan gelagat.Kajian ini menghasilkan model kesediaan terhadap kaedah SRI di luar bandar.Hasil kajian ini dijangkakan akan menjadi bahan rujukan bagi pengkaji akan datang dan pihak KEDA serta Jabatan Pertanian dalam merancang program yang bersesuaian dan berterusan dengan tahap kesediaan para petani di kawasan ini dan kawasan luar bandar lain

A Study of STML Students’ Perception toward Virtual Reality as an Education Aids

This study discusses students' perceptions of virtual reality as an education aid. There are three objectives for this study. The first objective of this study is to review the benefit and challenges of having virtual reality as educational aids from the literature review. The second objective is to investigate the benefit of virtual reality from students’ perception and the third objective is to make a comparison of virtual reality from the literature review and students' perception. The method used in conducting this study was a quantitative approach involving STML students in who took virtual reality classes to answer the questions in the questionnaire distributed to them which contained several sections such as demographic information, knowledge about VR, benefits of using VR, reasons of using VR and the challenges that may face. The findings in this study are information provided by the respondents to the questions asked about their perception of using VR as an education aid. To demonstrate this result, descriptive data and reliability analysis were performed and it was proven that the variables in this study were valid and reliable except for the variables related to challenges. Therefore, students should be exposed to VR and challenges they may face if they are used as one of the education aids

A manual guideline of building maintenance and management that can be implemented in STML building in UUM: A Path towards Sustainability

This research paper assessed the building maintenance and management practices towards sustainability. The objective of this research is to understand the meaning of building maintenance and management towards sustainability. The second objective is to identify the types of building maintenance and management system. The third objective is to determine the solution to solve the issues regarding lack of level user’s awareness for building maintenance and management in STML building. The method of this research is by using qualitative approach, by involve the personal and telephonic interview session with the building maintenance and management’s students of STML. The findings of this research are the respondents reacting absolute positively towards the importance of building maintenance and management that can be implemented. As a result, a manual guideline is being carry out and the research that aims at immediate application were proven to be positive. However, a building maintenance manual should be provided for effective maintenance management and the life of building assets could be sustained

Sustainable practices management: Case in paddy farming in West Malaysia

System of rice intensification (SRI) is a methodology innovation used in sustainability for social development.It is increasingly recognized worldwide as a suitable model for creating environmental, economic and social sustainability in agriculture for the 21st century.There are many research has proven that sustainable agriculture has many advantages such as cost effectiveness in reducing water consumption, balancing the ecosystem and being environmental friendly.It increases the resistance towards crop diseases and protects the soil and diversity of the organism.In addition, SRI as an organic fanning management provides better quality food which tastes better, is safer and healthier.So, this study was undertaken to understand SRI as sustainable paddy farming practice in two selected areas in West Malaysia.This study employed a qualitative research.Data were collected through field work observation and interviews.The findings of this study show there are several similarities and differences in the practice of paddy farming in Sik and Bandar Baru Tunjong.The finding shows model of sustainable paddy farming practices can be divided in to characteristics of sustainable practices characteristics, sustainable paddy farming practices and the challenges.Implication of this study is able to motivate farmers in sustainable management practices for rice cultivation
