Students’ perspective on absenteeism: a cross-sectional study among students at government medical colleges of Western Maharashtra
Background: The professional courses as undergraduate medical education need high theoretical and clinical classes attendance as those students will be future doctors and will deal with the health and disease of the public. In spite of implementing strict policies regarding student attendance, the rate of absenteeism in medical colleges remains high and is a growing apprehension a phenomenon that is also on the rise in universities worldwide.
Methods: A cross-sectional study in few Governments Medical Colleges of Western region of Maharashtra using a self-administered questionnaire. Data was collected and analysed through Google forms.
Results: Preparatory leave before every examination required (50.7%), air-conditioned classrooms (49.7%), good ventilated classrooms (44.1%), interactive teachers (41.8%), decrease lecture duration (38%), more practical less theory classes (37.6%) and good transportation facilities (34.3%) were various major suggestions given by students to increase the overall attendance.
Conclusions: Feedback from students must be repeatedly considered while designing and revising the curriculum to reduce absenteeism
Enhancing Security Levels at ISP Server Using Multiple Security Techniques with Proposed Crypo Application
The internet is widely used in computing. Security is an important aspect when the quality of service is evaluated and current security possesses high level encryption techniques. However, due to high data saturation and complexity, it is not enough for, only to rely on the common security techniques. In this paper, proposed application named Crypo is installed at both ends, including user and Internet Service Provider (ISP). User can connect to the public internet through providing credentials. Both ends work with same cryptographic techniques and logics. Crypo includes the existing security techniques with proposed logics. Attribute Based Encryption (ABE) is applied to user credentials. Cipher policy applies to data exchange between user and Internet Service Provider (ISP) to form a combined cipher data. Proposed logic is further applied to the binary formatted cipher data. According to proposed logic, the final encrypted binary formatted data are further applied with Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) to deliver it to the ISP. Decryption is done by the same logic applied to the sender side or vice versa. When data is retrieved by ISP from its end user, it is decrypted by the ISP after which is delivered to the public network in normal format. Four level security keeps the data and user credentials confidential. Intruders or hackers can’t reach to the end user without decrypting the secured data at ISP. While delivering encrypted data, applied logic name is also delivered so that end users can decrypt data using the same logic. By using proposed application Crypo, a secure connection is established between the end user and the ISP. An outsider cannot cause threat to the ISP’s users. Proposed multilevel cryptographic approach enhances the security
Heavy Quarkonium Potential Model and the State of Charmonium
A theoretical explanation of the observed splittings among the P~states of
charmonium is given with the use of a nonsingular potential model for heavy
quarkonia. We also show that the recently observed mass difference between the
center of gravity of the states and the state of
does not provide a direct test of the color hyperfine interaction in heavy
quarkonia. Our theoretical value for the mass of the state is in
agreement with the experimental result, and its E1 transition width is
341.8~keV. The mass of the state is predicted to be 3622.3~MeV.Comment: 15 page REVTEX documen
Spin re-orientation induced anisotropic magnetoresistance switching in LaCoNiO thin films
Realization of novel functionalities by tuning magnetic interactions in rare
earth perovskite oxide thin films opens up exciting technological prospects.
Strain-induced tuning of magnetic interactions in rare earth cobaltates and
nickelates is of central importance due to their versatility in electronic
transport properties. Here we reported the spin re-orientation induced
switching of anisotropic magnetoresistance (AMR) and its tunability with strain
in epitaxial LaCoNiO thin films across the
ferromagnetic transition. Moreover, with strain tuning, we could observe a
two-fold to four-fold symmetry crossover in AMR across the magnetic transition
temperature. The magnetization measurements revealed an onset of ferromagnetic
transition around 50 K, and a further reduction in temperature showed a subtle
change in the magnetization dynamics, which reduced the ferromagnetic
long-range ordering and introduced glassiness in the system. X-ray absorption
and X-ray magnetic circular dichroism spectroscopy measurements over Co and Ni
L edges revealed the Co spin state transition below the magnetic transition
temperature leading to the AMR switching and also the presence of Ni and
Co ions evidencing the charge transfer from Ni to Co ions. Our work
demonstrated the tunability of magnetic interactions mediated electronic
transport in cobaltate-nickelate thin films, which is relevant in understanding
Ni-Co interactions in oxides for their technological applications such as in
AMR sensors
Relativistic two-photon and two-gluon decay rates of heavy quarkonia
The decay rates of and through two-photon or two-gluon
annihilations are obtained by using totally relativistic decay amplitudes and a
sophisticated quantum-chromodynamic potential model for heavy quarkonia. Our
results for the photonic and gluonic widths of the 1S0, 3P0, and the 3P2 states
are in excellent agreement with the available experimental data. The procedures
and mathematical techniques used by us for the treatment of the
fermion-antifermion bound states are also applicable to other decay processes.Comment: 15 pages, RevTeX, PostScript available at

Unique Mass Texture for Quarks and Leptons
Texture specific quark mass matrices which are hermitian and hierarchical are
examined in detail . In the case of texture 6 zeros matrices, out of sixteen
possibilities examined by us, none is able to fit the low energy data (LED),
for example, , ,
, lies in the range (PDG). Similarly none of the 32 texture 5 zeros mass matrices considered
is able to reproduce LED. In particular, the latest data from LEP regarding
rules out all of them. In the texture 4
zeros case, we find that there is a unique texture structure for and
mass matrices which is able to fit the data.Comment: 12 pages, LaTeX,some changes in the references, minor changes in the

Heavy landings of mobulids reported at Cochin Fisheries Harbour, Kerala
Heavy landings of mobulids was seen for four
days during 19 - 22 August and again during 31 August
- 3 September 2013 at Cochin Fisheries Harbour.
During the first phase, around 600 mobulids (16
tonnes) were landed by gillnetters which operated
off the coast of Vizhinjam, Kovalam and Colachel.
The vessels operated for a period of 5-7 days in the
fishing ground 08014’N; 76033’E at a depth of 15 -30
m. The gear used was “ozhukkuvalai” with a square
mesh size of 80 - 150 mm. On an average, 15 – 30
numbers of mobulids were landed per boat
