    Influencing Factors on Knowledge Adoption of Mobile Game Developers in Online Communities

    Recently, with the advance of wireless Internet access via mobile devices, a myriad of game development companies has forayed into the mobile game market, leading to intense competition. To survive in this fierce competition, mobile game developers often try to get a grasp of the rapidly changing needs of their customers by operating their own official communities where game users freely leave their requests, suggestions, and ideas relevant to focal games. Based on the heuristic-systematic model (HSM) and data quality (DQ) framework, this study derives key content, non-content, and hybrid cues that can be utilized when game developers accept suggested postings in these online communities. The results of the hierarchical multiple regression analysis show relevancy, timeliness, amount of writing, and the number of comments are positively associated with mobile game developers’ knowledge adoption. In addition, title attractiveness mitigates the relationship between amount of writing/the number of comments and knowledge adoption

    Compression Behavior of Confined Columns with High-Volume Fly Ash Concrete

    The use of fly ash in ordinary concrete provides practical benefits to concrete structures, such as a gain in long-term strength, reduced hydration heat, improved resistance to chloride, and enhanced workability. However, few studies with high-volume fly ash (HVFA) concrete have been conducted that focus on the structural applications such as a column. Thus, there is a need to promote field applications of HVFA concrete as a sustainable construction material. To this end, this study investigated the compressive behavior of reinforced concrete columns that contain HVFA with a 50 percent replacement rate. Six columns were fabricated for this study. The study variables were the HVFA replacement rate, tied steel ratio, and tie steel spacing. The computed ultimate strength by the American Concrete Institute (ACI) code conservatively predicted the measured values, and, thus, the existing equation in the ACI code is feasible for confined RC columns that contain HVFA. In addition, an analysis model was calibrated based on the experimental results and is recommended for predicting the stress-strain relationship of confined reinforced concrete columns that contain HVFA

    Quantitative Iodine-123 single-photon emission computed tomography/computed tomography for Iodine-131 therapy of an autonomously functioning thyroid nodule

    Purpose Autonomously functioning thyroid nodules (AFTNs) are treated with iodine-131 (I-131) therapy, which increases the risk of permanent hypothyroidism; however, the risk can be reduced by separately estimating the accumulated activity for the AFTN and extranodular thyroid tissue (ETT). Methods A quantitative I-123 single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT)/CT (5mCi) was performed in one patient with unilateral AFTN and T3 thyrotoxicosis. The I-123 concentrations measured at 24h were 12.26”Ci/mL and 0.11”Ci/mL in the AFTN and contralateral ETT, respectively. Thus, the I-131 concentrations and radioactive iodine uptake expected at 24h by 5mCi of I-131 were 38.59”Ci/mL and 0.31 for the AFTN and 0.34”Ci/mL and 0.007 for the contralateral ETT. The weight was calculated as CT-measured volume multiplied by 1.03. Results In the AFTN patient with thyrotoxicosis, we administered 30mCi of I-131, which would maximize the 24-h I-131 concentration in the AFTN (226.86”Ci/g) and maintain a tolerable concentration in the ETT (1.97”Ci/g). The percentage of I-131 uptake at 48h post I-131 administration was 62.6%. The patient achieved a euthyroid state at 14weeks and maintained the state until 2years post I-131 administration with an AFTN volume reduction of 61.38%. Conclusion The pre-therapeutic planning of quantitative I-123 SPECT/CT may enable a therapeutic window for I-131 therapy, which directs optimal I-131 activity to effectively treat AFTN while preserving the normal thyroid tissue.Key points Question: Is it feasible for I-123 SPECT/CT to be used for planning of I-131 therapy in an autonomously functioning thyroid nodule (AFTN)? Pertinent findings: The radioactive iodine uptake of the AFTN and extranodular normal thyroid tissue can be accurately estimated using the I-123 quantitative SPECT/CT.     Cell type–dependent variation in paracrine potency determines therapeutic efficacy against neonatal hyperoxic lung injury

    AbstractBackground aimsThe aim of this study was to determine the optimal cell type for transplantation to protect against neonatal hyperoxic lung injury. To this end, the in vitro and in vivo therapeutic efficacies and paracrine potencies of human umbilical cord blood–derived mesenchymal stromal cells (HUMs), human adipose tissue–derived mesenchymal stromal cells (HAMs) and human umbilical cord blood mononuclear cells (HMNs) were compared.MethodsHyperoxic injury was induced in vitro in A549 cells by challenge with H2O2. Alternatively, hyperoxic injury was induced in newborn Sprague-Dawley rats in vivo by exposure to hyperoxia (90% oxygen) for 14 days. HUMs, HAMs or HMNs (5 × 105 cells) were given intratracheally at postnatal day 5.ResultsHyperoxia-induced increases in in vitro cell death and in vivo impaired alveolarization were significantly attenuated in both the HUM and HAM groups but not in the HMN group. Hyperoxia impaired angiogenesis, increased the cell death and pulmonary macrophages and elevated inflammatory cytokine levels. These effects were significantly decreased in the HUM group but not in the HAM or HMN groups. The levels of human vascular endothelial growth factor and hepatocyte growth factor produced by donor cells were highest in HUM group, followed by HAM group and then HMN group.ConclusionsHUMs exhibited the best therapeutic efficacy and paracrine potency than HAMs or HMNs in protecting against neonatal hyperoxic lung injury. These cell type-dependent variations in therapeutic efficacy might be associated or mediated with the paracrine potency of the transplanted donor cells

    Alteration of Tremor Dominant and Postural Instability Gait Difficulty Subtypes During the Progression of Parkinson's Disease: Analysis of the PPMI Cohort

    Background: Classifying PD into tremor dominant (TD) and postural instability gait difficulty (PIGD) subtypes may have several limitations, such as its diagnostic inconsistency and inability to reflect disease stage. In this study, we investigated the patterns of progression and dopaminergic denervation, by prospective evaluation at regular time intervals.Methods: 325 PD dopamine replacement drug-naïve patients (age 61.2 ± 9.7, M:F = 215:110) were enrolled. Patients were grouped into TD, indeterminant, and PIGD subtypes. Clinical parameters and I-123 FP-CIT SPECT images of each groups were analyzed and compared at baseline, 1, 2, and 4 years of follow up periods.Results: Baseline I-123 FP-CIT uptakes of the striatum were significantly higher in the TD group compared with the indeterminant group and PIGD group (p < 0.01). H & Y stage and MDS-UPDRS part III scores of the indeterminant group were significantly worse at baseline, compared with the TD and PIGD groups (p < 0.001 and p < 0.01, respectively), and MDS-UPDRS part II scores of the indeterminant group were significantly worse than the PIGD group (p < 0.001). There were no other significant differences of age, gender, weight, duration of PD, SCOPA-AUT, MOCA, usage of dopamine agonists, and levodopa equivalent daily doses at baseline. After 4 years of follow up, there were no differences of I-123 FP-CIT uptakes or clinical parameters, except for the MDS-UPDRS part II between the TD and indeterminant group (p < 0.05). The motor-subtypes were reevaluated at the 4 years period, and the proportion of patients grouped to the PIGD subtype increased. In the reevaluated PIGD group, MDS-UPDRS part II score (p < 0.001), SCOPA-AUT (p < 0.001), the proportion of patients who developed levodopa induced dyskinesia were higher than the reevaluated TD group, and the striatal I-123 FP-CIT uptakes were significantly lower (p < 0.01).Conclusion: There are no significant differences of symptoms and dopaminergic innervation between the TD and PIGD group after a certain period of follow up. Significant portion of patients switched from the TD subtype to the PIGD subtype during disease progression, and had a worse clinical prognosis

    Flexural and Shear Behaviors of Reinforced Alkali-Activated Slag Concrete Beams

    The material properties of cement-zero concrete using alkali-activators have been studied extensively as the latest response to reduce the CO2 exhaust of the cement industry. However, it is also critical to evaluate the behavior of reinforced concrete beams made of alkali-activated slag (AAS) concrete in terms of flexure and shear to promote the applicability of AAS concrete as structural material. Accordingly, nine types of beam specimens with various ratios of tensile steel and stirrup were fabricated and subject to bending and shear tests. The results show that the flexural and shear behaviors of the reinforced AAS concrete members are practically similar to those made of normal concrete and indicate the applicability of the conventional design code given that the lower density of slag is considered. In addition, a framework using the elastic modulus and stress-strain relation from earlier research is adopted to carry out nonlinear finite element analysis reflecting the material properties of AAS concrete. The numerical results exhibit good agreement with the experimental results and demonstrate the validity of the analytical model

    Surgical repair of descending thoracic and thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysm involving the distal arch: Open proximal anastomosis under deep hypothermia versus arch clamping technique

    BackgroundSurgical repair of a descending thoracic and thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysm (DTA/TAAA) involving the distal arch is challenging and requires either deep hypothermic circulatory arrest (DHCA) or crossclamping of the distal arch. The aim of this study was to compare these 2 techniques in the treatment of DTA/TAAA involving the distal arch.MethodsFrom 1994 to 2012, 298 patients underwent open repair of DTA/TAAA through a left thoracotomy. One hundred seventy-four patients with distal arch involvement who were suitable for either DHCA (n = 81) or arch clamping (AC; n = 93), were analyzed. In-hospital outcomes were compared using propensity scores and inverse-probability-of-treatment weighting adjustment to reduce treatment selection bias.ResultsEarly mortality was 11.1% in the DHCA group and 8.6% in the AC group (P = .58). Major adverse outcomes included stroke in 16 patients (9.2%), low cardiac output syndrome in 15 (8.6%), paraplegia in 10 (5.7%), and multiorgan failure in 10 (5.7%). After adjustment, patients who underwent DHCA were at similar risk of death (odds ratio [OR], 1.14; P = .80) and permanent neurologic injury (OR, 0.95; P = .92) to those who underwent AC. Although prolonged ventilator support (>24 hours) was more frequent with DHCA than with AC (OR, 2.60; P = .003), DHCA showed a tendency to lower the risk of paraplegia (OR, 0.15; P = .057).ConclusionsCompared with AC, DHCA did not increase postoperative mortality and morbidity, except for prolonged ventilator support. However, DHCA may offer superior spinal cord protection to AC during repair of DTA/TAAA involving the distal arch
