Beyond slurry-cast supercapacitor electrodes: PAN/MWNT heteromat-mediated ultrahigh capacitance electrode sheets
Supercapacitors (SCs) have garnered considerable attention as an appealing power source for forthcoming smart energy era. An ultimate challenge facing the SCs is the acquisition of higher energy density without impairing their other electrochemical properties. Herein, we demonstrate a new class of polyacrylonitrile (PAN)/multi-walled carbon tube (MWNT) heteromat-mediated ultrahigh capacitance electrode sheets as an unusual electrode architecture strategy to address the aforementioned issue. Vanadium pentoxide (V2O5) is chosen as a model electrode material to explore the feasibility of the suggested concept. The heteromat V2O5 electrode sheets are produced through one-pot fabrication based on concurrent electrospraying (for V2O5 precursor/MWNT) and electrospinning (for PAN nanofiber) followed by calcination, leading to compact packing of V2O5 materials in intimate contact with MWNTs and PAN nanofibers. As a consequence, the heteromat V2O5 electrode sheets offer three-dimensionally bicontinuous electron (arising from MWNT networks)/ion (from spatially reticulated interstitial voids to be filled with liquid electrolytes) conduction pathways, thereby facilitating redox reaction kinetics of V2O5 materials. In addition, elimination of heavy metallic foil current collectors, in combination with the dense packing of V2O5 materials, significantly increases (electrode sheet-based) specific capacitances far beyond those accessible with conventional slurry-cast electrodes.ope

Echo Path Transfer Function Estimation for Spectral Subtraction-based Acoustic Echo Suppression
In this study, we propose a novel technique for spectral subtraction (SS)-based acoustic echo suppression (AES). Conventional AES methods based on SS apply fixed weights to the estimated echo path transfer function (EPTF) at the current signal segment and to the EPTF estimated until the previous time interval. We propose a new EPTF estimation approach that adaptively updates the weight parameters in response to abrupt changes in the acoustic environment. From the experiments, we conclude that the developed techniques can be successfully used for the SS-based AES systems
Congenital Heart Disease (Atrioventricular Septal Defect) in the Mouse with Trisomy 16
Failure of fusion between the superior and inferior cushions has
usually been assumed to be the main morphogenetic event in producing hearts
with deficient atrioventricular septation (atrioventricular septal, or endocardial cushion
defects). Morphological studies on human autopsy specimens, however, showed
that another consistent finding is the marked disproportion between the dimensions
of the inlet and outlet of the left ventricle, which, until now, has no known
developmental basis.
We have studied the early formation of the hearts with atrioventricular septal
defects, using a mouse model with trisomy 16. Animals were studied between the
10th and 19th days of gestation by stereomicroscopic examination, scanning electronmlcroscopy
and the in-vitro incorporation of thymidine.
The first detectable morphological abnormality of the heart in the trisomic
mouse was observed on the 11th day, being a persistence of an infolding at the
inferior atrioventricular junction. This infolding was present in both trisomic and
eusomic animals on the 10th day. This morphology could be explained by a differential
growth of the myocardium at the inferior atrioventricular junction, which
was found to be a distinct zone with low incorporation of thymidine. On the 11th
day, the inferior atrioventricular cushion was bigger in the trisomic hearts. The
abnormalities of the cushions observed on the 12th day or later were deemed to
be consequences of these primary defects.
Sectioning of the heart from the left lateral aspect convincingly showed morphological
changes of the superior and inferior cushion or bridging leaflets in this
animal model. Abnormal endocardial cushions and abnormality in the proliferation
index of the myocardium at the inferior atrioventricular junction play more significant
roles in the formation of the hearts with deficient atrioventricular septation,
than the abnormalities found in the atrioventricular cushions
Microstructural evolution in m-plane GaN growth on m-plane SiC
This letter presents a study on the nucleation and microstructural evolution of m-plane GaN epilayers on m-plane SiC substrates using high-temperature AlN buffer layers. Controlled growth interruptions were carried out to render snapshots of heteroepitaxial dynamics. It was discovered that island coalescence results in an inhomogeneous mosaic tilt along the c-axis. Mesoscopic study of nucleation evolution helps elucidate the origin of commonly observed surface undulation and striation, which is attributed to concave growth due to the coalescence of trapezoidal islands upon contact. A model correlating microstructural defects with optical properties is proposed to explain the observed pattern in spatially resolved cathodoluminescence mapping.open221
Transient Acquired Hemophilia Associated with \u3cem\u3eMycoplasma pneumoniae\u3c/em\u3e Pneumonia
Acquired hemophilia is a rare disorder caused by autoantibodies to factor VIII (FVIII) (also referred to as factor VIII inhibitors or anti-FVIII) and may be associated with pregnancy, underlying malignancy, or autoimmune disorders. A 33-month-old girl who presented with hematochezia and ecchymotic skin lesions was diagnosed with Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia by serology and polymerase chain reaction. Hematologic studies showed a prolonged activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT), partially corrected mixing test for aPTT, reduced levels of FVIII, and the presence of antibodies against FVIII. She was treated conservatively with prednisone and intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) without FVIII transfusion and recovered without sequelae. This report provides the first description of acquired hemophilia due to anti-FVIII in association with M. pneumoniae in Korea. We discuss this case in the context of the current literature on acquired hemophilia in children
Developing Korean Academy of Medical Sciences Guideline for Rating the Impairment in Mental and Behavioral Disorders; A Comparative Study of KNPA's New Guidelines and AMA's 6th Guides
Quantifying and rating the impairments due to mental and behavior disorders are difficult for their own characteristics. Korean Academy of Medical Sciences (KAMS) is developing guidelines of rating impairment in mental and behavioral disorders based on Korean Neuropsychiatric Association (KNPA)'s new guidelines. We compared the new KNPA's guidelines and the American Medical Association (AMA)'s 6th Guides in assessing impairment due to mental and behavioral disorders to develop new guidelines of KAMS. Two guidelines are different in diagnosing system, applicable disorders, qualification of assessors, application of scales, contents of assessment and rate of impairment of the whole person. Both AMA's and the proposed guidelines have individual merits and characteristics. There is a limitation in using the 6th AMA's Guides in Korean situation. However to improve objectivity in Korean assessment of psychiatric impairment, the new AMA's Guides can serve as a good reference
나이에 따른 얕은 수면에서의 정수리 파형의 특징
The significance of sleep disorders is underestimated in our society. The number of sleep disorders is over 80 in recent classifications of sleep disorders. And the incidence and prevalence of sleep disorders are very high compared to other medical illnesses. The consequences of sleep disorders such as medical illness, surgical illness, and accident may cause serious burden not only to our individual health but also to our society both medically and socioeconomically. By reviewing economical cost of sleep disorders, we can see the seriousness of this condition and can find out what to do for the improvement to better condition.OAIID:oai:osos.snu.ac.kr:snu2012-01/102/2014017262/12SEQ:12PERF_CD:SNU2012-01EVAL_ITEM_CD:102USER_ID:2014017262ADJUST_YN:NEMP_ID:A079623DEPT_CD:801CITE_RATE:0DEPT_NM:의학과SCOPUS_YN:NCONFIRM:
