Exploring Residents’ Attitudes toward Solar Photovoltaic System Adoption in China

    Get PDF
As the largest energy consuming country, China is facing environmental deterioration, which results from the overuse of non-renewable conventional energy such as coal. Solar photovoltaic (PV) energy, an unlimited and clean energy with minimal impacts on the environment, is considered to be a good alternative to alleviate this severe issue. A survey was designed and conducted among residents in some major cities. Based on the first hand data, basic statistical methods were utilized to examine Chinese residents’ knowledge of, concerns, and attitudes towards PV adoption. The research aims to identify the drivers and dynamics that most encourage customers to install solar PV systems in their residential buildings. The significant recommendations from the data include cost reduction, practical government incentives, lowering the percentage of fossil fuel usage, and education to increase awareness of solar PV systems

A Mathematical Analysis of a Game of Craps

The game of craps is an extremely popular game offered by casino operators. There are some 40 different types of bets that one can place each time the game is played. One of the best bets from a player’s point of view is the Pass Line bet. The probability of winning a Pass Line bet is almost the same as the probability of losing (244⁄495 versus 251⁄495) as we will derive rigorously in this article. Since the “house” has such a small advantage over the players, many players possess the illusion that they have pretty good chance of making a profit or even making a living by playing this game. This article will show that this really is not the case. We will show that the probability of making a profit is almost zero if one plays the game regularly for a relatively long period of time

As the world’s largest energy consuming country, China is facing environmental deterioration, which results from the overuse of non-renewable conventional energy such as coal. Solar photovoltaic (PV) energy, an unlimited and clean energy with minimal impacts on the environment, is considered a good alternative to alleviate this severe issue. A survey was designed and conducted among residents in some major cities in China: Beijing, Shanghai, Nanchang, and Guangdong. Based on the first-hand data, basic statistical methods were utilized to examine Chinese urban residents’ knowledge, concerns, and attitudes about solar PV adoption. The research aimed to identify the drivers and dynamics that most encourage customers to install solar PV systems in their residential buildings. The data suggest that the factors that could increase solar PV adoption are (a) reduced costs, (b) practical government incentives, (c) desire to reduce fossil fuel usage, and (d) education to increase awareness of solar PV systems. This research empirically assesses the impacts of the adoption of solar PV systems on various socio-economic groups

Attitude of Chinese Students towards Solar PV Rooftop System Adoption

    Get PDF
With rising environmental concerns, China is more interested in Photovoltaic (PV) generation than ever before. Challenged by international trade limitations following antidumping investigation, and excess inventory following overproduction of panels and components in the last five years, China is actively expanding its domestic PV market, specifically the roof-top residential system. The motivation of this research is to understand the potential domestic market by examining the first hand data collected at Chinese universities. This research investigates students’ major concerns, prior experience, awareness, knowledge and attitude toward solar PV system. The results indicate 1) There is a promising future for solar PV in China among young adopters; 2) Reception of, and participation with, solar PV can be enhanced, if students are educated on the importance of sustainable energy development and the economics of going green;3 ) Knowledge of PV products can be enhanced through advertising, education and other communication channels

Communication: Rigorous Quantum Dynamics of O + O₂ Exchange Reactions on an Ab Initio Potential Energy Surface Substantiate the Negative Temperature Dependence of Rate Coefficients

    Get PDF
The kinetics and dynamics of several O + O2 isotope exchange reactions have been investigated on a recently determined accurate global O3 potential energy surface using a time-dependent wave packet method. The agreement between calculated and measured rate coefficients is significantly improved over previous work. More importantly, the experimentally observed negative temperature dependence of the rate coefficients is for the first time rigorously reproduced theoretically. This negative temperature dependence can be attributed to the absence in the new potential energy surface of a submerged reef structure, which was present in all previous potential energy surfaces. In addition, contributions of rotational excited states of the diatomic reactant further accentuate the negative temperature dependence
