Doctoral Students’ Experiences in Writing For Publication: The Case of One Doctoral Program in Jambi University
Writing scientific papers for publication is a major and common requirement for students pursuing postgraduate studies. The purpose of this article is to discuss the experiences of doctoral students in writing scientific papers to be published in reputable journals and what are the challenges of doctoral students (discursive and non-discursive) in writing scientific papers for publication in reputable journals. The findings indicated the undrgraduated students' positive attitude on writing for publication in international journal because many participants are the lecturers and also the teachers. They thought it will be important to publish an article especially in international journal to support their career because they are demanded to publish article regularly. But most of them are not from English department so they found some difficulties related to the language. They find difficulties in translating their L1 to English. They have lack of knowledge about English such as grammar, lack of suitable vocabulary,etc. The doctoral students also found challenges in writing their article. There are two main challenges that the researcher found in this research. They are discursive challenges and no-discursive challege
Selected Factors Students’ Stress in Learning English: A Case Study of English Study Program
The purposes of this research are to find out kinds of stresses suffered by the students in learning English and to investigate the factors related to students’ stresses in learning English. This research focused on getting the data about selected factors students’ stress in learning English. The researcher chose 8 students who come from 4 bachelor’s degree students, and 4 master’s degree students as the participants of this research. For the 4 bachelor’s degree students, the students were those who were in the 1st semester and got GPA at least B+ (75-76) on the English study program. Then, for the 4 master’s degree students, the students were also those from the 1st semester and got GPA at least B+ (75-76) and the English study program. All the data of this research were collected through open-ended questionnaires and interviews. The results of this research show that the stressed feeling suffered by the students in learning English is such a negative stress since there is not any positive response, and it categorized as stress in the society, and followed by stressed within the person. Then, the researcher found mostly they feel stressed in learning English because of afraid of making mistake in learning English, if they make mistake while learning English in the class, there will be something happened such as the friends will mock at them or underrate them, and so do the lecturer
Embarking on a Researcher Career: Involvement in Writing for Publication
Personal Branding is a step taken by a lecturer, one of which is publishing articles in accredited journals. Academic writing is intended to contribute to the field of education both practically and theoretically. This scientific research focuses on descriptive analysis of lecturers' voices about the struggle in achieving a publication target. The author uses a qualitative method with a phenomenological design and semi-structured interviews to obtain data from selected senior lecturers at certain public institutions. In general, the findings of this research are categorized into six points. Of the two sub-themes, the research results tend to lead to positive and negative attitudes in English-language publications. Furthermore, the discursive challenge shows that Participants have difficulty writing with regard to word choice, grammar, and vocabulary bank, while the non-discursive challenge shows that Participants have difficulty processing their soft skills such as time management in writing and financial management in publications. In terms of psychology, the lecturers' internal motivation in writing is the target for achieving a higher career. The more they write, the more performance points they get so they can reach a certain career level. Meanwhile, external motivation is in the form of government regulations and legal institutions that require an educator in higher education to carry out scientific activities such as research and reports in the form of published scientific articles. The implications of this research are expecting support from the institution where they work and the writer's family to understand their obligations as a lecturer
Online-based Learning Management System in the Industrial Revolution 4.0 Era: Reality in Islamic Higher Education
The impact of the industrial revolution 4.0 developments with physical and internet cyber systems in the education sector is the development of computer-based teaching which then propagates to the development of online learning and the use of e-learning media. With a combined system, distance learning occurs in a learning management system with web-based assistance platforms and social media which is the result of the development of Industry 4.0 during the 21st century. The main objective of this research is to analyze and compare student perceptions in implementing eight platforms of implementing an online-based Learning Management System at the tertiary level. Then, this study links students' perceptions in implementing online-based learning management with reference to three aspects of assessment; teaching and learning aspects, lecturer competency aspects, and infrastructure aspects. A quantitative approach with a survey design has been chosen. Sampling technique was purposive sampling and involved 147 respondents. The results concluded that the Zoom, Google Classroom and Whatsapp platforms were the most frequently used distance learning media and were also liked by students. Currently, not many lecturers use Moodle because there is not enough time to learn how to use Moodle and prepare all the resources to design the desired learning, while there are many alternative platforms that are easier to learn and use in a short time. The survey on the three aspects of daring learning has been agreed in detail and the results provide positive conclusions regarding the implementation of online-based learning in the past 4 years
