Lähivertailuja 14:suomalais-virolainen kontrastiivinen seminaari Oulussa 3. - 4. toukokuuta 2003

Alkusanat Lähivertailuja 14 on Oulun yliopistossa 3.—4. toukokuuta 2003 pidetyn suomalais-virolaisen kontrastiivisen seminaarin satoa. Aurinkoiset kevätpäivät loivat oivat puitteet suomen ja viron kielestä ja kielten vertailusta kiinnostuneille. Seminaariin osallistui myös suomen ja viron kielen opiskelijoita ja muita alan harras-tajia. Seminaarin ohjelma on liitteenä. Seminaarin varsinainen työpäivä oli lauantai 3.5., jolloin kuultiin kahdeksan esitelmää. Sen lisäksi käytiin hyödyllinen ja monipuolinen keskustelu viron kielen opettamisesta, opetuksen sisällöistä sekä oppiaineen asemasta ja tulevaisuudesta Suomen yliopistoissa. Erityisenä huolenaiheena oli viron kielen aseman säilyminen suomen kielen opintojen osana. Kannettiin huolta myös viron kielen opetusvirkojen säilymisestä yliopistojen rahavarojen vähentyessä. Sunnuntaipäivän ohjelma koostui kulttuuriannista. Seminaarin osallistujat kävivät Oulun Taidemuseossa tutustumassa oululaisten ja muiden pohjoissuomalaisten taiteilijoiden näyttelyyn. Vierailulla sanomalehti Kalevan toimitukseen tutustuttiin toimitustyöhön ja Kalevan taidekokoelmiin. Kiitämme esitelmöijiä, osallistujia ja seminaarin järjestämistä tukeneita. Foreword This report is the third publication of the co-operative project Nordic-Baltic-Russian network of Finnic minority and regional languages funded by the Nordic Council of Ministers. The project participants are the Universities of Tromsø, Umeå, Stockholm, Mälardalen, Petrozavodsk, Tartu and Oulu, Võro Institute, Kväntunet, STR-T, Ruotsinsuomalaisten Keskusliitto, Karjalan Rahvahan Liitto and Võro Selts, and the project aims to follow up and support the revival and revitalization of Finnic minority languages. The project was launched in the autumn 2004, and it is coordinated by the Division of Finnish at the University of Oulu. The purpose of the network project is to promote the use of Finnic minority languages in all domains, to increase co-operation between universities and the third sector, to continue the long-term research and educational co-operation between the participating universities and to support the regional education initiated by minority organizations. The project is a continuation of the previous co-operative Academic networking in peripheral language research and higher education between the Nordic countries and the neighbouring states 1999–2001. The crucial difference compared to the aforementioned project is that the current enterprise involves the organizations and institutes of linguistic minorities as equal participants. The previous project published a baseline report titled Kieli- ja kulttuurikontaktit and three reports under the title Tutkielmia vähemmistökielistä Jäämereltä Liivinrantaan. The current project published report IV in 2005 and V in 2006; this volume is thus the sixth publication of the network for minority language research and education. The project publications deal with the research being done on Finnic minority languages. They provide a forum in which Ph.D. students doing research in minority languages can publish their doctoral research. Senior researchers can also publish the results of their minority language projects in these publications. These publications also provide information regarding the current revitalization status of minority languages. The present report focuses especially on the themes of the conference held in Kangos (Sweden) on 23.–26.2.2006: standardization of Finnic minority languages and related problems. Procedures requiring and supporting standardization are also described.Esipuhe Tämä raportti on Pohjoismaiden Ministerineuvoston rahoittaman yhteistyöprojektin Nordic-Baltic-Russian network of Finnic minority and regional languages kolmas julkaisu. Projekti on Tromssan, Uumajan, Tukholman, Mälardalenin, Petroskoin, Tarton ja Oulun yliopistojen, Võro Instituutin, Kväntunetin, STR-T:n, Ruotsinsuomalaisten Keskusliiton, Karjalan Rahvahan Liiton ja Võro Seltsin yhteinen vähemmistökielten elpymistä ja elvyttämistä tutkiva ja tukeva hanke. Hanke alkoi syksyllä 2004, ja sen koordinoijana on Oulun yliopiston suomen kielen oppiaine. Erityisen tärkeä ero mainittuun projektiin on se, että nykyiseen projektiin liittyvät tasavertaisina jäseninä kielivähemmistöjen omat järjestöt ja instituutit. Aikaisempi projekti julkaisi alkuraportin Kieli- ja kulttuurikontaktit ja kolme raporttia nimellä Tutkielmia vähemmistökielistä Jäämereltä Liivinrantaan. Nykyinen projekti on julkaissut vuonna 2005 raportin IV ja vuonna 2006 jo raportin V; sen vuoksi tämä julkaisu on Vähemmistökielten tutkimus- ja koulutusverkoston raportti VI. Projektin julkaisuissa esitellään itämerensuomalaisista vähemmistökielistä tehtävää tutkimusta. Erityisesti nuorilla vähemmistökielten tutkijoilla on mahdollisuus julkaista esimerkiksi väitöstutkimustensa osia. Myös varttuneemmat tutkijat voivat esitellä vähemmistöhankkeidensa tuloksia. Julkaisuissa kerrotaan myös vähemmistökielten tämänhetkisestä revitalisaatiotilanteesta. Tämä julkaisu keskittyy Kangosessa 23.–26.2.2006 pidetyn konferenssin teemaan: itämerensuomalaisten vähemmistökielten standardointiin ja siihen liittyviin ongelmiin. The section of research articles is a forum for ongoing research on Finnic minority languages. It allows especially junior researches to present aspects of their doctoral dissertations. More senior researchers can also report the results of their minority projects in this section. The other section of the publication reports on the current situation of minority languages. The present report focuses especially on the themes of the Vaskna (Estonia) and Petrozavodsk conferences: the contemporary status and developmental prospects of minority language instruction as well as the operation of minority organizations

Abstract Tutkielmia oppijankielestä III (Studies on learner language III) is an addition to the series of two previous publications from the Department of Finnish Language, University of Oulu, titled Tutkielmia oppijankielestä (Studies on learner language) (2000) and Tutkielmia oppijankielestä II (Studies on learner language II) (2002). The articles in this publication are based on pro gradu theses on Finnish as a second and foreign language (S2). They focus on the communication strategies used by the learners of Finnish, the teaching and learning of spoken Finnish, the learning of the structure and lexicon of Finnish, and the order of teaching in textbooks. The articles have been reviewed by experts in the field, and edited and improved based on their recommendations. The last section of the book contains a historical review of the development of Finnish as a second and foreign language as a subject in the university of Oulu and a list of the S2 student assignments
