    When Intrusive Can Be Likable: Product Placement Effects on Multitasking Consumers

    Using movie scenes, this study examines how multitasking by viewers influences the product-plot integration effect. Findings indicate that multitasking dampens a well-integrated placement\u27s brand-enhancing effect and mitigates an intrusive placement\u27s brand-damaging effect. Well-integrated placement produces an assimilation effect, leading to convergence of viewers\u27 attitudes toward the placed versus competing brands, while intrusive placement triggers a contrast effect that results in divergence of these attitudes. Among single-tasking viewers, the boomerang effect of an intrusive placement decreases the favorability of the placed brand and increases the favorability of the not-shown competitor.     Enhancing nursing education to bolster nurse governance: insights from nurse managers

    AimIn South Korea, the level of nursing governance is moving toward shared governance. This study sought to explore nursing education contents in undergraduate nursing programs necessary to improve the governance of nurses from the perspectives of nurse managers.MethodsThe study employs thematic analysis following the guidelines outlined in the Consolidated Criteria for Reporting Qualitative Research utilizing a qualitative research design. Our investigation involves general or tertiary hospital nurse managers intending to gain valuable insights and perspectives.ResultsInterview data from 14 nurse managers were analyzed. A total of one main and four sub-themes were derived from the qualitative data analysis. Analysis revealed the main theme, “occupational socialization.” The four sub-themes were education on “nurse–patient and nurse-colleague communicative interaction,” “humanity,” “career development,” and “nurses as politicians.”ConclusionThe findings are valuable in suggesting critically needed educational content in undergraduate nursing programs to improve nursing governance. Future research should investigate the effects of the abovementioned themes on nursing governance among clinical nurses or nursing students for several years of follow-up data collection

    Examining Online Switching Costs over Search Product and Experience Product Contexts

    Many Internet vendors have realized the importance of “locking-in” online customers in order to ensure their profitability. For this reason, many researchers have paid attention to the formation of switching costs which acting as a barrier that prevent customers from easily changing from one vendor to another. Erection of switching barriers will represent an important strategy for locking in customers and increasing their willingness to pay price premium. This study aims to examine the relationships among customer satisfaction, perceived value, relative advantage, and switching costs. This study further examines the effect of switching costs on customer’s willingness to pay more. This study collects data and test the research model over two contexts, search product context and experience product context. The empirical results show the key role of switching costs in leading to willingness to pay more and the relationships among the four constructs. The theoretical and practical implications of this study are then discussed

    Understanding How People with Binge Eating Disorder and Bulimia Interact with Digital Food Content

    A large body of research has focused on understanding how online content and disordered eating behaviors are associated. However, there is a lack of comprehensive studies investigating digital food content's influence on individuals with eating disorders. We conducted two rounds of studies (N=23 and 22, respectively) with individuals with binge eating disorder (BED) or bulimia nervosa (BN) to understand their motivations and practices of consuming digital food content. Our study reveals that individuals with BED and BN anticipate positive effects from food media to overcome their condition, but in practice, it often exacerbates their disorder. We also discovered that many individuals have experienced a cycle of quitting and returning to digital food content consumption. Based on these findings, we articulate design implications for digital food content and multimedia platforms to support vulnerable individuals in everyday online platform interactions.Comment: 28 pages, 6 figure

    Integrating Critical Multiliteracies Pedagogy in ESL/EFL Teaching

    This article argues for enacting a synthesis of English language teaching (ELT) and critical pedagogy into what we call critical multiliteracies pedagogy (CMP) in the context of ESL/EFL teaching. CMP challenges and expands language and literacy instruction beyond a skills-based pedagogy to be inclusive of diverse modes, voices, and identities to address critical issues across local, global, and transnational contexts in ESL/EFL classrooms. Particularly, we share how an international professional development program has promoted CMP for 20 Korean English teachers working with adolescent multilingual learners in South Korea. Findings show how participating teachers critically reframed their vision of ELT, enacting and envisioning new ways of teaching English through CMP despite challenges at the systemic level. Implications discuss how TESOL professionals can integrate CMP into diverse ELT contexts, responding to the call to uptake powerful new ways to communicate and create knowledge and ideas for a more just society

    Successful treatment with vedolizumab in an adolescent with Crohn disease who had developed active pulmonary tuberculosis while receiving infliximab

    Vedolizumab (VDZ) has been approved for the treatment of inflammatory bowel diseases (IBDs) in patients aged ≥18 years. We report a case of a pediatric patient with Crohn disease (CD) who was successfully treated with VDZ. A 16-year-old female developed severe active pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) during treatment with infliximab (IFX). IFX was stopped, and TB treatment was started. After a 6-month regimen of standard TB medication, her pulmonary TB was cured; however, gastrointestinal symptoms developed. Due to the concern of the patient and parents regarding TB reactivation on restarting treatment with IFX, VDZ was started off-label. After the second dose of VDZ, the patient was in clinical remission and her remission was continuously sustained. Ileocolonoscopy at 1-year after VDZ initiation revealed endoscopic healing. Therapeutic drug monitoring conducted during VDZ treatment showed negative antibodies to VDZ. No serious adverse events occurred during the VDZ treatment. This is the first case report in Korea demonstrating the safe and effective use of VDZ treatment in a pediatric CD patient. In cases that require recommencement of treatment with biologics after recovery of active pulmonary TB caused by anti-tumor necrosis factor agents, VDZ may be a good option even in pediatric IBD
