Effect of different concentration of Gibberellic and Proline acid in the growth and production of pea plant Pisum sativum L.
This experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect of foliar spraying with gibberellic acid concentrations (0,50,100)mg.LÂÂč and proline acid concentrations (0, 25, 50)mg.LÂÂč and their interactions on some growth parameters of pea plant using clay pots in the botanical garden of Biology Department College of Education for pure science Ibn âAl-Haitham ,Baghdad University, for the growing season 2012-2013 the experiment involved the studing of some growth parameters as plant?s height, dry weight, wt. of pods.plantÂÂč, biology yield and the concentration of some major elements (nitrogen, phosphorus and calcium) in plant?s seeds. The experiment was designed according to Completely Randomized Desig(CRD) with three replications.
Results revealed that foliar application with the concentrations of both acid caused a significant increase in the growth parameters, and the interaction gave a significant effect, the concentration 100 mg.LÂÂč gibberellic acid and the concentration 50 mg.LÂÂč proline gave the best value for plant?s height, dry weight, the concentration of nitrogen and calcium in plant?s seeds, but the concentration 100 mg.LÂÂč gibberellic acid and the concentration 25 mg. LÂÂč proline acid gave the higheat value for the concentration of phosphorus in plant?s seeds while the concentration 50 mg .LÂÂč gibberellic acid and the concentration 25 mg.LÂÂč proline gave the best values for wt. of pods.plantÂÂč, biology yield
A versatile ribosomal protein promoter-based reporter system for selective assessment of RNA stability and post-transcriptional control
Assessment of post-transcriptional control relies on use of transcriptional inhibitors and is masked by copious and cryptic transcriptional induction. We screened several cellular promoters that are constitutively active yet noninducible to external stimuli. The ribosomal protein RPS30 promoter was chosen; its TATA signal and sp1 site location were optimized. The modified promoter (RPS30M) is selective to post-transcriptional effects of AU-rich elements (ARE) in the 3âČUTR, while it is not transcriptionally responsive to a wide variety of agents including pro-inflammatory cytokines and RNA-binding proteins. Specific cis-acting elements can be appended to RPS30M by a cloning-free approach to allow coupled transcriptional/post-transcriptional assessment, as demonstrated with NF-ÎșB and ÎČ-catenin/wnt signaling experiments. Moreover, efficient tetracycline-regulated RPS30M was created for quantitative assessment of the half-lives of mRNAs containing AREs. The described approach provides enhanced versatility and suitability for selective post-transcriptional assessment with or without transcriptional induction
SARS-CoV-2 vaccination modelling for safe surgery to save lives: data from an international prospective cohort study
Background: Preoperative SARS-CoV-2 vaccination could support safer elective surgery. Vaccine numbers are limited so this study aimed to inform their prioritization by modelling.
Methods: The primary outcome was the number needed to vaccinate (NNV) to prevent one COVID-19-related death in 1 year. NNVs were based on postoperative SARS-CoV-2 rates and mortality in an international cohort study (surgical patients), and community SARS-CoV-2 incidence and case fatality data (general population). NNV estimates were stratified by age (18-49, 50-69, 70 or more years) and type of surgery. Best- and worst-case scenarios were used to describe uncertainty.
Results: NNVs were more favourable in surgical patients than the general population. The most favourable NNVs were in patients aged 70 years or more needing cancer surgery (351; best case 196, worst case 816) or non-cancer surgery (733; best case 407, worst case 1664). Both exceeded the NNV in the general population (1840; best case 1196, worst case 3066). NNVs for surgical patients remained favourable at a range of SARS-CoV-2 incidence rates in sensitivity analysis modelling. Globally, prioritizing preoperative vaccination of patients needing elective surgery ahead of the general population could prevent an additional 58 687 (best case 115 007, worst case 20 177) COVID-19-related deaths in 1 year.
Conclusion: As global roll out of SARS-CoV-2 vaccination proceeds, patients needing elective surgery should be prioritized ahead of the general population
