Direction of Housing Landscape Research in Japan

    Get PDF
There are many studies on the townscape, rural landscape, and housing landscape in Japan conducted by researchers from different disciplines. However, there are limited comprehensive studies on the direction of housing landscape research across various fields. Concern over the formation of a good landscape has risen recently. Therefore, a thorough understanding of the reality of the housing landscape is required. In this article, I discuss a housing landscape perspective, the aim of the formation of a housing landscape, and the problem of the direction of housing landscape research across various fields

A Study of the Function of Builders in Formation of a Landscape : A Case Study of Housing Developments in Higashi-Hiroshima City

In present-day Japan, many people do not choose traditional style of houses and housing landscapes are therefore changing, but the mechanism of this process has not been sufficiently studied. The purpose of this study is to clarify the function of the builders in the formation of housing landscapes. I researched on the outward appearance of houses and interviewed builders involved in housing development in Higashi-Hiroshima City, Hiroshima Prefecture. The results show that the builders have opportunities to decide whether to establish building agreements and to build ready-for-sale houses or customized houses under housing development. This would allow them to control the development of fundamental housing landscapes; however, this is a superficial system. To maintain or develop housing landscapes, residents should have a sense of ownership and intervene actively in the mechanism

Probable association of T Tauri stars with the L1014 dense core

Using the Wide Field Grism Spectrograph 2 (WFGS2), we have carried out slit-less spectroscopy, g'r'i' photometry, and slit spectroscopy on the L1014 dense core. We detected three Halpha emission line stars. We interpret one as weak-line T Tauri star (WTTS) and the others as classical T Tauri stars (CTTS). Since their g'-i' colors and/or classified spectral types are consistent with those of T Tauri stars and two of them show less extinction than the cloud, these three stars are likely to be T Tauri stars associated with L1014. Adopting an age range for T Tauri stars, 1-10 Myr, the color-magnitude diagram suggests a distance of ~400-900 pc, rather than the previously assumed distance, 200 pc. This could strongly affect on the mass estimate of L1014-IRS, which is thought to be either a very young protostar or proto-brown dwarf.Comment: 5 pages, 5 figures, to be published in Vol.58, No.5, October 25, 200

Education for Disaster Prevention in England : Analysis of Secondary Geography Textbooks

    Get PDF
The purpose of this study is to clarify the aims, contents and activities of education for disaster prevention on geographical education in England, by analysis of secondary textbooks. Thereby, we want to contribute the improvement of Japanese geographical education. As a result, we clarified the following: 1) when students study a natural disaster in UK, they learn a plurality of cases including domestic and foreign regions, 2) all textbooks contain activities that students can form attitudes and decide what to do for disaster prevention. On the basis of these results, we suggest improvements of education for disaster prevention. The first is to develop a clear understanding of a natural disaster with multi-area including Japan. The second is to place contents and activities for forming a value relevant to awareness of disaster prevention into Japanese geography textbook. The third is to set an activity to learn practical strategies for disaster prevention in the real world

Geographical Contents in Primary School : An Analysis of the English Geography Textbook “Collins Primary Geography”

    Get PDF
In this study, we have analyzed the English geography textbook “Collins Primary Geography”, in order to clarify the characteristics of geographical contents in primary school. Results of this study are as follows: age (grade)-appropriate teaching through different process of leaning (awareness, understanding, cognition and value judgement) and physical, human, environmental geography and topography as a content. However, there are no contents across physical and human geography, one of the features of geography, in the textbook.本稿は,2016年度前期開講の地理認識内容学特講(由井担当)の一部をもとに,加筆・修正を加えたものである
