An Analysis of Anger Responses within the Context of Virtualized Consumption of Hatsune Miku
Does anger reflect deep meaning of attachment and integration? In an effort to explicate the above notion and to capture the rapidly evolving consumer behaviour in the digital virtual terrain, the paper investigates the responses of fans to a break-out phenomenal from Japan, the virtual celebrity Hatsune Miku (HM) to a controversial report from CBS news (see Johnson, 2012). The meteoric rise to fame of HM, a Crypton Media-produced Vocaloid character which resembles a 16-year girl, is demonstrated by the sales of total HM brand goods reaching 10 billion yen (approximately $104 million USD), and by more than 350,000 vocaloid videos on YouTube and 92,600 such videos on Niconico douga - a Japanese YouTube-like site (Wikia, 2012; Santos 2011). On one side, the responses from fans to inaccurate claims by CBS news are replete with furious, cynical, and sarcastic comments that not only defend the credibility of HM, but also brutally criticize the validity of the proposed “fake-ness” of HM. Such comments even go beyond attacking the author of the article, and retaliate with attacks on America as a nation in response to a perceived attack on Japan within the article itself. On the other side, the responses unveil the deep adoration and love of fans to HM and the meaning, the aestheticism, and the values that HM gives to these fans and co-creators globally. With the ignited deep anger from HM fans due to the CBS report opening an unprecedented view of the “inner thoughts” of HM from “her” fans, this paper contributes to the domains of virtualized consumption and consumer emotion by exploring HM fans’ responses, extracting a number of key concepts and themes, and examining the link between them, including her real-ness and desired experiential rewards that the fans claim to truly enjoy
Willingness to Pay for Digital Contents in Japan
We estimate a mixed logit demand model for the Japanese digital content market and measure willingness to pay for service attributes. We find that the willingness to pay for an extra unit of service quality ranges from 62 Yen to 83 Yen per month. Meanwhile, the switching cost, a measure of disutility from switching to other service providers is estimated as 340 Yen ($3) per month, which is approximately the same as the current monthly subscription fee.Willingness to Pay, Digital Contents
Galactic Wind in the Nearby Starburst Galaxy NGC 253 Observed with the Kyoto3DII Fabry-Perot Mode
We have observed the central region of the nearby starburst galaxy NGC 253
with the Kyoto Tridimensional Spectrograph II (Kyoto3DII) Fabry-Perot mode in
order to investigate the properties of its galactic wind. Since this galaxy has
a large inclination, it is easy to observe its galactic wind. We produced the
Ha, [N II]6583, and [S II]6716,6731 images, as well as those line ratio maps.
The [N II]/Ha ratio in the galactic wind region is larger than those in H II
regions in the galactic disk. The [N II]/Ha ratio in the southeastern filament,
a part of the galactic wind, is the largest and reaches about 1.5. These large
[N II]/Ha ratios are explained by shock ionization/excitation. Using the [S
II]/Ha ratio map, we spatially separate the galactic wind region from the
starburst region. The kinetic energy of the galactic wind can be sufficiently
supplied by supernovae in a starburst region in the galactic center. The shape
of the galactic wind and the line ratio maps are non-axisymmetric about the
galactic minor axis, which is also seen in M82. In the [N II]6583/[S
II]6716,6731 map, the positions with large ratios coincide with the positions
of star clusters found in the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) observation. This
means that intense star formation causes strong nitrogen enrichment in these
regions. Our unique data of the line ratio maps including [S II] lines have
demonstrated their effectiveness for clearly distinguishing between shocked gas
regions and starburst regions, determining the extent of galactic wind and its
mass and kinetic energy, and discovering regions with enhanced nitrogen
abundance.Comment: 22 pages, 5 figures, 1 table, accepted for publication in Ap
Phonon, Two-Magnon and Electronic Raman Scattering of Fe1+yTe1-xSex
We have measured Raman scattering spectra of single-crystalline FeTe0.6Se0.4
(T_c ~ 14.5 K) and its parent compound Fe1.074Te at various temperatures. In
the parent compound Fe1.074Te, A1g and B1g modes have been observed at 157.5
and 202.3 cm-1, respectively, at 5 K. These frequencies qualitatively agree
with the calculated results. Two-magnon excitation has been observed around
2300 cm-1 for both compounds. Temperature dependence between the electronic
Raman spectra below and above T_c has been observed and 2\Delta and
2\Delta/k_BT_C have been estimated as 5.0 meV and 4.0, respectively.Comment: 8 pages, 8 figures, to be published in Phys. Rev.
Star Formation in the Circumnuclear Environment of NGC1068
We present near-infrared emission line images of the circumnuclear ring in
NGC1068. We have measured the Br_gamma fluxes in a number of star forming
complexes and derived extinctions for each of these by comparison with H_alpha.
We investigate the star forming histories of these regions and find that a
short burst of star formation occured co-evally throughout the ring within the
last 30-40 Myr, and perhaps as recently as 4-7 Myr ago. The 1-0 S(1) flux and
S(1)/Br_gamma ratios indicate that as well as fluorescence, shock excited H_2
emission contributes to the total flux. There is excess H_2 flux to the
North-West where the ionisation cone crosses the ring, and we have shown it is
possible that the non-stellar continuum from the Seyfert nucleus which produces
the high excitation lines could also be causing fluorescence at the edges of
molecular clouds in the ring. The nuclear 1-0 S(1) is more extended than
previously realised but only along the bar's major axis, and we consider
mechanisms for its excitation.Comment: 10 pages, 4 figures, LaTeX (mn.sty & psfig.sty). Accepted for
