Flat electronic band structure and anisotropic optical, mechanical, and thermoelectric properties of two-dimensional fullerene networks
Nanoclusters like fullerenes as the unit to build intriguing two-dimensional
topological structures is of great challenge. Here we propose three bridged
fullerene monolayers and comprehensively investigate the novel fullerene
monolayer as synthesized experimentally Zheng et al.,[Nature 606, 507-510
(2022)] by state of the art first principles calculations. Our results show
that alpha-C60-2D has a direct bandgap of 1.49 eV owing to a flat conduction
band bottom close to the experimental value, the optical linear dichroism with
strong absorption in long-wave ultraviolet region, a small anisotropic Youngs
modulus, the large hole mobility, and the ultrahigh Seebeck coefficient at
middle low temperatures. Moreover, Li ions are found to migrate easily along
the X path in alpha-C60-2D. It is unveiled that the anisotropic optical,
mechanical, electrical, and thermoelectric properties of alpha-C60-2D originate
from the asymmetric bridging arrangements between C60 clusters. Our study
promises potential applications of monolayer fullerene networks in diverse
fields
Thermally Driven Pure Spin and Valley Currents via the Anomalous Nernst Effect in Monolayer Group-VI Dichalcogenides
Spin and valley dependent anomalous Nernst effect are analyzed for monolayer
MoS2 and other group-VI dichalcogenides. We find that pure spin and valley
currents can be generated perpendicular to the applied thermal gradient in the
plane of these two-dimensional materials. This effect provides a versatile
platform for applications of spin caloritronics. A spin current purity factor
is introduced to quantify this effect. When time reversal symmetry is violated,
e.g. two-dimensional materials on an insulating magnetic substrate, a dip-peak
feature appears for the total Nernst coefficient. For the dip state it is found
that carriers with only one spin and from one valley are driven by the
temperature gradient.Comment: 5 pages, 5 figures, will appear in Physical Review Letter
Spin-Caloritronic Batteries
The thermoelectric performance of a topological energy converter is analyzed.
The H-shaped device is based on a combination of transverse topological effects
involving the spin: the inverse spin Hall effect and the spin Nernst effect.
The device can convert a temperature drop in one arm into an electric power
output in the other arm. Analytical expressions for the output voltage, the
figure-of-merit (ZT) and energy converting efficiency are reported. We show
that the output voltage and the ZT can be tuned by the geometry of the device
and the physical properties of the material. Importantly, contrary to a
conventional thermoelectric device, here a low electric conductivity may in
fact enhance the ZT value, thereby opening a path to new strategies in
optimizing the figure-of-merit.Comment: 12 pages, 3 figures, accepted by Phys. Rev. Applie
Experience in nursing hydronephrosis with infection during pregnancy
Objective: To investigate the nursing points of hydronephrosis with infection during pregnancy. Methods: 20 cases of hydronephrosis with infection during pregnancy from June 2014 to January 2015 received bladder transurethral ureteral stent implantation. Close observation of the disease changes together with psychological care and fluid therapy was given for prevention of infection and complications. Results: Ureteral double J tubes were successfully implanted in 20 patients. No significant complications were detected during and after surgery. After anti-inflammatory treatment, body temperature and lumbago of all patients returned to normal within 48 h. No fetal malformations, mental retardation and congenital diseases were reported. Conclusion: Early nursing intervention for pregnant women and fetus should be performed according to characteristics of gestational hydronephrosis with infection during pregnancy, and monitor the situation, make the preoperative psychological nursing, and improve the preoperative preparation. Close intraoperative monitoring of vital signs of patients is essential. Postoperative nursing care of the complications and improvement of the discharge guidance are important to increase the cure rate and to promote the recovery of the patients

Apical-Basal Polarity Signaling Components, Lgl1 and aPKCs, Control Glutamatergic Synapse Number and Function.
Normal synapse formation is fundamental to brain function. We show here that an apical-basal polarity (A-BP) protein, Lgl1, is present in the postsynaptic density and negatively regulates glutamatergic synapse numbers by antagonizing the atypical protein kinase Cs (aPKCs). A planar cell polarity protein, Vangl2, which inhibits synapse formation, was decreased in synaptosome fractions of cultured cortical neurons from Lgl1 knockout embryos. Conditional knockout of Lgl1 in pyramidal neurons led to reduction of AMPA/NMDA ratio and impaired plasticity. Lgl1 is frequently deleted in Smith-Magenis syndrome (SMS). Lgl1 conditional knockout led to increased locomotion, impaired novel object recognition and social interaction. Lgl1+/- animals also showed increased synapse numbers, defects in open field and social interaction, as well as stereotyped repetitive behavior. Social interaction in Lgl1+/- could be rescued by NMDA antagonists. Our findings reveal a role of apical-basal polarity proteins in glutamatergic synapse development and function and also suggest a potential treatment for SMS patients with Lgl1 deletion
