Corrosion map of zinc in Slovakia

    Get PDF
The subject of this research was influence of the environmental parameters, like temperature, humidity and pollutants, on the corrosion rate of the zinc protective coating of the steel structural elements. Zinc is usually used to protect those elements against corrosion. The idea was to study the corrosion of zinc in different parts of Slovak Republic in order to create the so-called corrosion map of the country. The corrosion rate of zinc rcorr was calculated according to standard ISO 9223. Results have shown that both the input parameters, as well as the corrosion rate of zinc, are changing with time

The real static behaviour of historic bridge in town Krásno nad Kysucou in Slovakia

    No full text
The paper is focused on real static behaviour of the oldest reinforced concrete arch bridge in middle Europe, which is located in the town Krásno nad Kysucou over the river Bystrica. This bridge was diagnosed and the task was to determine the load-carrying capacity of the bridge. Documentation of the object has not been available, so, it was not clear what the static schema of the bridge is – whether it is fixed arch or two-hinged arch and whether the spandrel walls located on the both sides in the longitudinal direction are cooperating with the arch. The paper is focused on the static calculation and the load-carrying capacity calculation in order to compare various static schemas

Calibration of partial safety factors according to Eurocodes

    No full text
Recommended reliability levels and their adequate partial safety factors can be found in Eurocodes only for design of new structures and bridges. Modified reliability levels and partial safety factors for verifying bridge structures for their remaining lifetime were determined by theory of reliability at Department of Structures and Bridges at Civil Engineering Faculty, University of Žilina. This paper is focused on verification of modified partial safety factors of materials and load effects using calibration

Prediction of RC Bridge Member Resistance Decreasing in Time under Various Conditions in Slovakia

    No full text
Reliability is one of the most significant requirements for structures given in Eurocodes. Thus, the specific level of safety, serviceability, and durability have to be satisfied to fulfill the reliability of structures. In the case of reinforced concrete (RC) members, the corrosion of reinforcement is not assumed in the stage of structure design, which is in contrast with the structures in service, where the corrosion of reinforcement can significantly decrease their diameter ø in time. In these cases, the moment resistance in time MRd(t) decreases during the designed lifetime Td of a structure. The corrosion speed is as a basis for the calculation of moment resistance in time MRd(t), i.e., a first-year corrosion rate rcorr and a corrosion model as well. The corrosion itself is a very complicated issue, so the first-year corrosion rate rcorr and also the corrosion model can be different under various conditions in Slovakia. The paper is focused not only to determine the corrosion speed (first-year corrosion rate rcorr and the corrosion model) and parametric study of the moment resistance in time MRd(t) under various conditions in Slovakia but also shows an overview on some parameters that may influence the corrosion process
