EDUCATIONAL MATERIALS FOR ORAL HEALTH CARE: SCOPING REVIEW ON CONTENT EVALUATION CRITERIA

    No full text
Health education is considered a set of knowledge and practices aimed at disease prevention and health promotion. In the area of oral health, an important aspect of health education, and the responsibility of the oral health team, is helping patients to be confident in their abilities to care for their own health or that of their children. In this context, educational materials are considered important tools used in the promotion of health education, acting as a facilitator in the dissemination of knowledge and promotion of self-care through various means and media. Thus, the elaboration of educational materials and their prior evaluation makes it possible to certify whether the content of the material is suitable for the intended target audience. Given the above, through a scoping review, this study aims to map and describe the available literature on the evaluation criteria used to validate the content of educational materials for oral health care. The question to be answered is: “What evaluation criteria have been used to validate contents of educational materials for oral health care?”. The PRISMA-ScR guidelines and the protocol developed by the Joanna Briggs Institute will be adopted. The search strategy will be implemented in the following databases: PubMed, Cochrane, Web of Science, Scopus, Lilacs and ERIC. The selection will be made by reading the title/abstract and reading the full text by two researchers independently. Studies that used criteria or instruments to evaluate the content of educational materials for oral health care aimed at people of all ages who are not university students or health professionals will be included. Studies that do not describe criteria or instruments to evaluate content of educational materials for oral health care will be excluded; studies dealing with the evaluation of educational materials for oral health care aimed at university students or health professionals; studies dealing with the evaluation of educational materials for purposes other than oral health; publications other than scientific articles (editorials, commentaries, letters to the editor, abstracts). Based on the synthesis of the results of the scoping review, a checklist will be proposed with the evaluation criteria used to validate the contents of educational materials on oral health as a technical product of this research project
