Anomalous Quartic Couplings in Production via WW-Fusion at LEP2
The production of in high-energy
collisions offers a window on anomalous quartic gauge boson couplings. We
investigate the effect of two possible anomalous couplings on the cross section
for production via -fusion at LEP2 ( GeV).Comment: 7 pages, 3 figures, LaTex, clarifying definition adde
Like-Sign W Boson Production at the LHC as a Probe of Double Parton Scattering
Double parton scattering, i.e. two parton hard scattering processes in the
same hadron-hadron collision, may constitute an important background for Higgs
and other new particle searches at the LHC. We point out that like-sign W pair
production provides a relatively clean way of searching for, and calibrating,
double parton scattering at the LHC.Comment: 10 pages, LaTeX, 5 figures, epsfi
Fully differential QCD corrections to single top quark final states
A new next-to-leading order Monte Carlo program for calculation of fully
differential single top quark final states is described and first results
presented. Both the s- and t-channel contributions are included.Comment: 3 pages, 3 figures, talk presented at DPF2000, August 9-12, 2000. To

Numerical study of surface-induced reorientation and smectic layering in a nematic liquid crystal
Surface-induced profiles of both nematic and smectic order parameters in a
nematic liquid crystal, ranging from an orienting substrate to "infinity", were
evaluated numerically on base of an extended Landau theory. In order to obtain
a smooth behavior of the solutions at "infinity" a boundary energy functional
was derived by linearizing the Landau energy around its equilibrium solutions.
We find that the intrinsic wave number of the smectic structure, which plays
the role of a coupling between nematic and smectic order, strongly influences
the director reorientation. Whereas the smectic order is rapidly decaying when
moving away from the surface, the uniaxial nematic order parameter shows an
oscillatory behavior close to the substrate, accompanied by a non-zero local
biaxiality.Comment: LaTeX, 17 pages, with 4 postscript figure
The Expansion in Width for Domain Walls in Nematic Liquid Crystals in External Magnetic Field
The improved expansion in width is applied to curved domain walls in uniaxial
nematic liquid crystals in external magnetic field. In the present paper we
concentrate on the case of equal elastic constants. We obtain approximate form
of the director field up to second order in magnetic coherence length.Comment: 18 pages, Latex 2.09, no figure
Combined Electroweak Analysis
Recent developments in the measurement of precision electroweak measurements
are summarised, notably new results on the mass of the top quark and mass and
width of the W boson. Predictions of the Standard Model are compared to the
experimental results which are used to constrain the input parameters of the
Standard Model, in particular the mass of the Higgs boson. The agreement
between measurements and expectations from theory is discussed.
