Interoperability of Cross-Border European Egovernment Services: Some Design Issues

    Get PDF
The authors analyse some of the research outcomes achieved during the implementation of the EC GUIDE research project “Creating an European Identity Management Architecture for eGovernment”, as well as their personal experience. The project goals and achievements are however considered in a broader context. The key role of Identity in the Information Society was emphasised, that the research and development in this field is in its initial phase. The scope of research related to Identity, including the one related to Identity Management and Interoperability of Identity Management Systems, is expected to be further extended. The authors analyse the abovementioned issues in the context established by the EC European Interoperability Framework (EIF) as a reference document on interoperability for the Interoperable Delivery of European eGovernment Services to Public Administrations, Business and Citizens (IDABC) Work Programme. This programme aims at supporting the pan-European delivery of electronic government services

    Get PDF
In contemporary business development, digital transformation has become a major challenge to big data management. In an environment of increasing volumes of data, the major factors that are crucial to business development relate to big data processing and analysis. Open-source data processing technologies employ an innovative approach to the design of data processing and data analytics tools in cooperation among developers, which ensures the transparency, accessibility and continuous improvement of those tools. The main objective of this article is to review popular open-source technologies for big data processing and identify trends in employing big data in business applications

AN INTEGRATED MODEL FOR DESIGNING AND DEVELOPING A KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS SYSTEM

bstract: Performance management is based on adequate strategic goalsetting, monitoring its accomplishment and achieved results, and dealing promptly with any problems which may arise during the implementation of a plan. Key performance indicators systems (KPIS) are a powerful tool for organizational change. Reliable and efficient KPIS may be designed by employing an integrated model which combines the design of key performance indicators with the flexible development of business intelligence (BI) systems

Research Phases of University Data Mining Project Development

    Get PDF
Educational Data Mining becomes one of the challenging new research fields where data mining methods and tools could help universities in taking timely and data analysis based management decisions, thus contributing to gaining competitive advantages in their successful policy introduction. This paper presents the research activities performed for the implementation of a data mining project initiated in one of the most prestigious Bulgarian universities. The project main goal is to reveal the high potential of data mining applications for university management, referring to the optimal usage of data mining methods and techniques to deeply analyze the collected historical data. That will lead to better understanding the student behavior and building well structured educational process that meets the university policy and supports the management decision making process

Innovative approach to identity management solution development for e-government at EU level, Journal of Telecommunications and Information Technology, 2006, nr 2

This paper presents the main aspects of research, analysis and design of the open identity management architecture for e-government development within GUIDE, a project financed by the 6FP of the EC. The most important identity management issues strongly influencing the European e-government development are briefly discussed. An emphasis is placed on the innovative interdisciplinary approach used in GUIDE, aimed at covering the whole range of technical, process, policy, legal and social identity management issues, and seeking to overcome the existing fragmentation of identity management initiatives. GUIDE brings together the European industrial, financial and technical market leaders in e-government solutions, as well as leading academic institutes of the relevant scientific disciplines. Through its scientific, technological and socio-economic goals GUIDE will contribute towards initiatives that will ultimately deliver multiple benefits to governments, citizens and businesses

Acinetobacter baumannii – a problematic microorganism with increasing antibiotic resistance

    Get PDF
IntroductionIn the last years, the growing antibiotic resistance of Acinetobacter baumannii isolates has been registered all over the world, incl. in our country. This increases the cost of treatment, burdens health care facilities and staff, and - on an individual level - worsens the quality of life of patients, especially the risk of death. The aim of this study is to discuss up-to-date data on the problematic and increasing antibiotic resistance of Acinetobacter baumannii and their containment.Materials and MethodsInformation from the last five years is selected from scientific databases: CDC, ECDC, Elsevier, PubMed, Sciencedirect, BulSTAR, Medical Institute of Ministry of Internal Affairs. Results and DiscussionAccording to experts, emergence of carbapenem-resistant A. baumannii should be contained using complex measures: screening of risky patients, increased measures in infection control and antimicrobial stewardship. The COVID-19 pandemic over the past year has contributed to increase in resistance due to the heightened and in many cases irrational use of often broad-spectrum antibiotics. The need for laboratory testing of susceptibility/ resistance of carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii hospital isolates to antimicrobials is frequently overlooked.ConclusionsStrict control of infections is needed to limit the increasing resistance of Acinetobacter baumannii, including through monitoring, and an early and accurate laboratory diagnosis. It is necessary to raise the level of awareness regarding antibiotic policy, both among medical professionals and among people in society as a whole, through information events and materials

Gamification to Empower Information Security Education

47% of the world population uses the internet daily, and access is growing also in less developed countries (LDCs). As a consequence, a total of almost 1 billion households in the world have internet access, of which 48 million belong from LDCs (ITU, 2016). A large proportion of internet users are teenagers, who often are not aware of all the risks related to sharing private information through the Internet using for instance social networks. This paper summarizes how much time students pass online, in what activities they prefer to be involved, which risks they are confronted with, and what can be done to reduce them. The solution we propose isan investment on the teacher level, recognized here as a key figure to be trained to become I (information) Secure Agent via an online course. The course will follow a gamified approach for empowering information security education. Our assumption is that gamification will have positive effects on participants’ engagement and goal achievemen
