Introducing Reach And Range For Digital Payment Platforms

Numerous digital payment solutions, which rely on new disruptive technologies, have been launched on the payment market in the recent years. But despite the growing number of mobile payment apps, very few solutions turn to be successful as the majority of them fail to gain a critical mass of users. In this paper we investigate two successful digital payment solutions in order to outline some of the factors which contribute to the widespread adoption of a digital payment platform. In order to conduct our analysis we propose the Reach and Range Framework for Multi-Sided Platforms. Our study indicates that the success of digital payment platforms lies with the ability of the platform to balance the reach (number of participants) and the range (features and functionalities) of the platform

PLATFORM CONSTELLATIONS: THE CASE OF KAKAOTALK AND LINE

This research paper presents an initial attempt to introduce and explain the emergence of new phenomenon, which we refer to as platform constellations. Functioning as highly modular systems, the platform constellations are collections of highly connected platforms which co-exist in parallel and as such allow us to study platforms not only as separate entities, but also to investigate the relationship between several platforms offered and governed by one and the same platform provider. By investigating two case studies of indigenous platform constellations formed around the hugely popular instant messaging apps KakaoTalk and LINE, we are able to gain valuable insights about the nature of these new constructions and to capture and synthesize their main characteristics in a framework. Our results show that platform constellations possess unique innovative capabilities, which can improve users’ acquisition and users’ engagement rates as well as unlock new sources of value creation and diversify revenue streams

Assessment of Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder and Post-Assessment Meeting with Parents: Some Issues of Planning and Professional Attitude

The authors, child psychiatrists and clinical psychologists, conducting team assessment of children with developmental disabilities (including autism spectrum disorder) for more than two decades, present some important in their view issues and recommendations concerning planning and proceeding of assessment and post-assessment meetings with parents. It is essential to ensure not only an accurate assessment protocol and diagnosis, but also to "attune" to parents in order to facilitate their understanding and more positive use of assessment outcome results. Parents need further support to "survive" psychically the post - assessment period and to provide for adequate interventions for their child

Asperger’s Syndrome in a Clinical Sample: Reasons for Referral and Comorbidity

Asperger’s Syndrome (AS) is an autism spectrum disorder without mental retardation and language delay. AS often remains unrecognized until these children fail to adapt to school or kindergarten. The comorbid psychiatric disorders, achieving clinical significance, were considered as another pathway to diagnosis. This study is aimed to elucidate the reasons for referral, the frequency and the kinds of comorbidities in a clinical sample of consecutive cases of children and adolescents with AS. To this objective, clinical records of children and adolescents, who have received a DSM-IV diagnosis of AS after multidisciplinary assessment in a given time period were reviewed. After excluding 3 cases due to insufficient information, 24 cases of children and adolescents with Asperger’s Syndrome (23 boys and one girl) were identified. The mean age at the time of assessment and receiving diagnosis was 9.6 yrs. (age range 4 to 17 years). In twenty-one (87%) of the cases the reason for referral was an episode of disorganized behavior following an attempt to enrollthe child at school or kindergarten, and more rare referral occurred within the significant school transition period. In the remaining 3 cases, the reason for referral was a comorbid condition. Comorbid conditions identified at the moment of assessment include: ADHD documented in 4 cases, tics in 3 cases, obsessive-compulsive behaviors in 4 cases, Stereotypic Movement Disorder or Trichotilomania in 4 of the cases. Early Assessment of Mental Development in Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and other Neurodevelopmental Disorders - Sharing of Clinical Experience

The authors present a synthesised review of the methods for assessing mental development and autism, with an emphasis on the general tendency to reduce the age of diagnosis. Based on clinical experience, a number of particularities are described in terms of: testing, working with parents, observing and reflecting on the nature and meaning of autistic behaviours. On focus is a toolkit for detailed assessment of mental development that was elaborated within the inter-university cooperation between Sofia Medical University and Universite catholique de Louvain (UCL) - Belgium. Illustrated and discussed are typical profiles of cognitive and socio-communicative functioning of children with ASD and other neurodevelopmental disorders, which help a differential diagnosis to be made by the multidisciplinary clinical team. Further described are the advantages of early assessment of mental development as a basis for future educational and therapeutic programs

Generative Mechanisms for Digital Platform Ecosystem Evolution

Despite their growing economic importance and rapid proliferation across various industries, successful digital platform ecosystems remain difficult to build and sustain over time. Facing challenges stemming from the turbulent and uncertain environment, in which they operate, and from the accumulated over time internal inefficiencies, digital platform ecosystems need to evolve and adapt rapidly. Despite the importance of understanding how and why this evolutionary process occurs, research on this topic has remained elusive. Building upon the notion of generative mechanisms, this PhD dissertation seeks to unravel the various mechanisms, which contingently shape the evolution of digital platform ecosystems. To this end, this research investigates the evolutionary process from three theoretical perspectives – Punctuated Equilibrium, Dialectical and Teleological, and by adopting multi-method approach. As a result, the PhD dissertation puts forward three process theories, each characterized by distinctive generative mechanisms, which collectively provide in-depth insights how digital platform ecosystems evolve over time in response to internal and external challenges

Probing color coherence effects in pp collisions at [Formula: see text].

A study of color coherence effects in pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 7[Formula: see text] is presented. The data used in the analysis were collected in 2010 with the CMS detector at the LHC and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 36 pb[Formula: see text]. Events are selected that contain at least three jets and where the two jets with the largest transverse momentum exhibit a back-to-back topology. The measured angular correlation between the second- and third-leading jet is shown to be sensitive to color coherence effects, and is compared to the predictions of Monte Carlo models with various implementations of color coherence. None of the models describe the data satisfactorily
