Percutaneous coronary interventions for ST elevation myocardial infarction in different age groups

    No full text
Given the global trend of population aging, it is natural to see an increase in the number of percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI) performed in patients of older age groups. The aim of this study was to compare the results of percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI) in different age groups and find a predictors of hospital mortality. Methods. Data were collected from 1649 patients with STEMI who were admitted to the coronary care unit and underwent PCIs from 2006 to 2017. Patients were divided into 3 age groups according to World Heals Organization classification. The first group consisted of 850 patients aged from 18 to 59 years, the second group consisted 620 patients aged from 60 to 74 years, and third group consisted of 179 patients aged from 75 years and older. Results. The rate of in-hospital death was statistically significant lower in younger groups (groups 1-2: 2,2 % vs 5,8 %, р180 minutes (OR=4,39; 95 % CI 1,78-10,8, р=0,001). Conclusions. PCIs for STEMI in older age groups were associated with worse in-hospital outcomes. Age, anterior myocardial infarction, Syntax score, ventricular arrhythmias, blood glucose level at admission, PCI failure, Killip class III-IV, total ischemia time >180 minutes were the independent predictor of death

Long-term clinical outcomes after kissing balloon inflation in patients with coronary bifurcation lesions treated with provisional stenting technique. Results from the real-world multicenter registry

Objective: There is a lack of data regarding the long-term clinical efficacy of the kissing balloon inflation (KBI) after provisional stenting of coronary bifurcation lesions. The aim of this study was to analyze the impact of KBI on long-term clinical outcomes in patients undergoing provisional stenting for the coronary bifurcation lesions in a large real-world population. Methods: A total of 873 patients who underwent percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI) with provisional stenting and had clinical follow up were analyzed. Patients treated with 2-stent strategy were excluded. To reduce the effect of potential confounding factors in this observational study, propensity score matching was conducted. Results: KBI was performed in 325 patients (37.2%). The median follow-up duration was 37.3 months. Patients treated with KBI more often had a previous PCI (48.6% vs. 42.5% SMD = 0.123). Patients in non-kissing group had more complex coronary disease with higher prevalence of calcification (14.8% vs. 21.4% SMD = 0.172), thrombosis (2.8% vs. 5.8% SMD = 0.152) and longer side branch lesions (8.3% vs. 11.7% SMD = 0.113). There were no significant differences in the major adverse cardiac events including death, myocardial infarction, target lesion revascularization after KBI versus no KBI (15.4% vs. 15.7%, p = 0.28), in total cohort or in matched patients (17.1% vs. 15.8%, adjusted HR 1.01, 95% CI: 0.65–1.65, p = 0.95). The lack of effect of KBI on clinical outcomes was consistent across various subgroups including left main disease. Conclusion: In this multicenter real-world registry, KBI did not improve long-term clinical outcomes in patients with coronary bifurcation lesions treated with provisional stenting technique

Piezoelectric, dielectric and pyroelectric properties of 0-3 ceramic-polymer composites

The circular samples of composites were made from PZT ceramic grains dispersed in polymers (epoxy or rubber). Pressure dependencies of the hydrostatic piezoelectric coefficient dh and permittivity ε were measured in the range up to 60 MPa. The hydrostatic strain coefficient dh, the hydrostatic voltage coefficient gh and figure of merit dh·gh were determined using the static method. The pressure dependence of the hydrostatic coefficients was measured for several successive cycles. Experimental dependence of the charge on pressure and temperature was fitted by multi parameter function. The pressure and temperature dependencies of the hydrostatic dh and pyroelectric p3 coefficients were determined. It was found that the hydrostatic strain coefficient dh and hydrostatic voltage coefficient gh decreased and pyroelectric coefficient p3 increased with pressure at constant temperature.DFG [1102]; ICTP programme for Training and Research in Italian Laboratories (TRIL); German Bundesministerium fur Bildung und Forschung; Czech Republic MEYS Grants [ME492, LA242]; SAIL (CSR), Govt. of India; CERN-RFBR Grants [08-02-91009, 12-02-91500]; Portuguese FCT - Fundacao para a Ciencia e Tecnologia [CERN/FP/109323/2009, CERN/FP/116376/2010, CERN/FP/123600/2011]; MEXT; JSPS [18002006, 20540299, 18540281]; Daiko Foundation; Yamada Foundation; DFG cluster of excellence 'Origin and Structure of the Universe'; EU FP7 (HadronPhysics3) [283286]; Israel Science Foundation; Polish NCN Grant [DEC-2011/01/M/ST2/02350

Spin alignment and violation of the OZI rule in exclusive omega and phi production in pp collisions

    No full text
Exclusive production of the isoscalar vector mesons omega and phi is measured with a 190 GeV/c proton beam impinging on a liquid hydrogen target. Cross section ratios are determined in three intervals of the Feynman variable x(F) of the fast proton. A significant violation of the OZI rule is found, confirming earlier findings. Its kinematic dependence on xF and on the invariant mass M-pV of the system formed by fast proton p(fast) and vector meson V is discussed in terms of diffractive production of p(fast) V resonances in competition with central production. The measurement of the spin density matrix element rho(00) of the vector mesons in different selected reference frames provides another handle to distinguish the contributions of these two major reaction types. Again, dependences of the alignment on x(F) and on M-pV are found. Most of the observations can be traced back to the existence of several excited baryon states contributing to omega production which are absent in the case of the phi meson. Removing the low-mass M-pV resonant region, the OZI rule is found to be violated by a factor of eight, independently of x(F). (C) 2014 CERN for the benefit of the COMPASS Collaboration.
