    Pengaruh Jenis Fluor Topikal Terhadap Kebocoran Mikro pada Pit and Fissure Sealant

    Prevention of dental caries in children can be done with topical fluoride as well as pit and fissure sealant. Topical fluoride application followed by pit and fissure sealant is still controversial because it allegedly could impair the bond between pit and fissure sealant materials to the teeth, so that it can lead to microleakage. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of  5% NaF  and 1.23% APF  on microleakage of RMGIC and flowable composite as pit and fissure sealant materials. Thirty extracted premolars  were prepared and then divided into three groups: without topical fluoride, with application of  5% NaF  (Enamelast, USA), and with application of 1.23% APF (60 Second Taste, USA); then filled using RMGIC (GC Fuji II LC, Japan) and flowable composite (Esthet.Xflow, USA). The teeth were soaked in methylene blue and then cut buccolingually. Microleakage was observed using stereomicroscope and scored in an ordinal scale. The Kruskal-Wallis test on RMGIC groups was not significant, while in the flowable composite groups was significant (p <0.05). Mann-Whitney test showed a significant difference between the RMGIC and flowable composite groups after application of 1.23% APF. It can be concluded that microleakage of pit and fissure sealant using a flowable composite was higher than RMGIC after application of 1.23% APF

    DAYA HAMBAT EKSTRAK GYNURA PSEUDOCHINA TERHADAP BAKTERI STAPHYLOCOCCUS AUREUS PADA PLAT AKRILIK POLIMERISASI PANAS

    Staphylococcus aureus merupakan salah satu mikrobial yang sering ditemukan pada permukaan gigi tiruan pasien denture stomatitis. Salah satu pencegahan dari penyakit ini adalah dengan menggunakan pembersih gigi tiruan. Gynura pseudochina merupakan tanaman herbal yang sering digunakan di Indonesia dan diketahui memiliki kandungan bioaktif sebagai antibakteri. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efektifitas ekstrak Gynura pseudochina konsentrasi 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, 25% terhadap pertumbuhan bakteri S.aureus pada plat resin akrilik polimerisasi panas. Tiga puluh lima plat akrilik polimerisasi panas berukuran 10x10x1mm dikontaminasi dengan bakteri S.aureus, dibagi menjadi 7 kelompok (n=5). Sampel direndam pada ekstrak G.pseudochina, sodium hipolorit, dan akuades selama 30 menit. Sampel dipindahkan kedalam larutan NaCl 0,9% kemudian diambil 0,1 ml dibenihkan pada media PCA lalu diinkubasi selama 24 jam. Jumlah koloni S.aureus dihitung menggunakan colony counter. Data dianalisis menggunakan uji one way ANOVA dan dilanjutkan dengan uji Post Hoc Games-Howell. Terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan secara statistik pada hampir seluruh kelompok (p0,05). Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah ekstrak G.pseudochina 15%, 20%, 25% efektif dalam menghambat pertumbuhan koloni bakteri S.aureus dan konsentrasi 25% merupakan konsentrasi paling efektif

    PERBANDINGAN LAJU ALIR SALIVA LANSIA PENDERITA DIABETES MILETUS PENGGUNA DAN BUKAN PENGGUNA GIGI TIRUAN LEPASAN

    Introduction: Older people are often proportional to the loss of teeth and reduced some body functions, such as decreased salivary flow rate. Systemic diseases such as diabetes that are common in the elderly lead to the decrease of salivary production. The use of denture is reported to increase the salivary flow rate.Methods: This study was an analytic survey with purposive sampling design involving 40 elderly people with diabetes mellitus with age range 45-59 years. Samples divided into two groups, group 1 was using removable denture, while group 2 was not using removable denture. Unstimulated saliva was collected by spitting method for 5 min. Salivary flow rate is obtained by measuring saliva volume in ml/min. Data were analyzed using unpaired t-test with significance level p<0.05.Results: The results showed that elderly people with diabetes mellitus using removable denture had higher salivary flow rate than not using removable denture significantly.Conclusion: the use of removable denture in elderly diabetic people is able to increase the salivary flow rate
