Position-dependent-mass; Cylindrical coordinates, separability, exact solvability, and PT-symmetry

The kinetic energy operator with position-dependent-mass in cylindrical coordinates is obtained. The separability of the corresponding Schr\"odinger equation is discussed within radial cylindrical mass settings. Azimuthal symmetry is assumed and spectral signatures of various z-dependent interaction potentials (Hermitian and non-Hermitian PT-symmetric) are reported.Comment: 16 page

An infrared diagnostic for magnetism in hot stars

Magnetospheric observational proxies are used for indirect detection of magnetic fields in hot stars in the X-ray, UV, optical, and radio wavelength ranges. To determine the viability of infrared (IR) hydrogen recombination lines as a magnetic diagnostic for these stars, we have obtained low-resolution (R~1200), near-IR spectra of the known magnetic B2V stars HR 5907 and HR 7355, taken with the Ohio State Infrared Imager/Spectrometer (OSIRIS) attached to the 4.1m Southern Astrophysical Research (SOAR) Telescope. Both stars show definite variable emission features in IR hydrogen lines of the Brackett series, with similar properties as those found in optical spectra, including the derived location of the detected magnetospheric plasma. These features also have the added advantage of a lowered contribution of stellar flux at these wavelengths, making circumstellar material more easily detectable. IR diagnostics will be useful for the future study of magnetic hot stars, to detect and analyze lower-density environments, and to detect magnetic candidates in areas obscured from UV and optical observations, increasing the number of known magnetic stars to determine basic formation properties and investigate the origin of their magnetic fields.Comment: 4 pages, accepted for publication in A&

This work aimed to determine the physiological changes, during the growth promoted by the interaction among the PGPMs Burkholderia pyrrocinia (R-46), Pseudomonas fluorensces (R-55), Trichoderma asperellum (Ta: mixture of strains T-06, T-09, T-12, T-52) and silicon fertilization. The trial was conducted in randomized blocks, 25 treatments (1, 2, 4 and 8 t Si ha-1 (CaMgSi2O6)) x three PGPM (R-55, R -46 and Ta: mixture of strains T-06, T-09, T-12, T-52, control), with 5 replication, under greenhouse conditions. The different doses of silicon were incorporated into the soil 30 days before sowing

Spectrum generating algebras for position-dependent mass oscillator Schrodinger equations

The interest of quadratic algebras for position-dependent mass Schr\"odinger equations is highlighted by constructing spectrum generating algebras for a class of d-dimensional radial harmonic oscillators with d2d \ge 2 and a specific mass choice depending on some positive parameter α\alpha. Via some minor changes, the one-dimensional oscillator on the line with the same kind of mass is included in this class. The existence of a single unitary irreducible representation belonging to the positive-discrete series type for d2d \ge 2 and of two of them for d=1 is proved. The transition to the constant-mass limit α0\alpha \to 0 is studied and deformed su(1,1) generators are constructed. These operators are finally used to generate all the bound-state wavefunctions by an algebraic procedure.Comment: 21 pages, no figure, 2 misprints corrected; published versio
