Alex Bugny devant son portrait en clown et une affiche de Buster Keaton à Medrano

Alexandre Bugny de Brailly (1897-1983) est né à Caudéran le 2 juillet 1897 de Joseph Bugny, dresseur comique d’animaux savants et d’une écuyère, Anne Ducos. Il fait ses premiers pas avec son frère Lucien, clown, né en 1893 et mort lors de la Première Guerre mondiale, puis avec Lucien Loyal, le clown Pitt, comme auguste acrobate et musical pendant cinq ans. Bon sauteur, c’est sans entrain pourtant qu’il parait dans le charivari clownesque du Cirque Medrano dans les années 1920 avant d’être désigné en 1929 pour remplacer Despard-Plège auprès de Rhum. Il se compose un personnage de clown sans arriver à entrer vraiment dans la dynamique du dialogue, mais il expérimente la mécanique de l’improvisation auprès de l’auguste inventif. C’est avec Filip Cairoli, en Espagne d’abord, puis auprès de Beby, qu’il façonne sa silhouette inimitable de clown : grand, le crâne rasé entièrement passé au « blanc », surmonté d’un petit toupet à la Tonytoff, paraphé d’un seul sourcil en arc et d’un petit « T » dans la fossette du menton, les oreilles carminées et revêtu d’un long sac pailleté décoré d’une collerette plate. De « Bugny » il devient « Alex » lorsque Alex (Briatore) disparaît de la piste. Il adopte le ton et la stature du clown solide, serein, attentif, qui lui permet de s’adapter à des augustes aussi différents que Porto, E. P. Loyal, Zavatta ou Polo Rivels. Les affiches titrent : « Alex, le meilleur clown ». Sur la photographie ci-dessus, l’homme au regard nostalgique qui parcourt l’exposition de souvenirs de Medrano travaille toujours en 1970 et jusqu’à son 84 e anniversaire, deux ans avant sa mort. Désormais habillé d’un frac et d’un chapeau haut de forme, mais le masque entièrement blanc, toujours, il donne la réplique à Michel Francini. C’est au cirque Medrano qu’il a croisé « L’Homme qui ne rit jamais », l’Américain Buster Keaton (Joseph Francis Keaton, surnommé Malec, Frigo, Elmer et enfin Buster, 1896-1966). Buster Keaton puise dans ses films les sujets de ses sketches, qu’il revisite pour la piste lors de ses différents contrats signés avec Jérôme Medrano à partir du jubilé des 50 ans du cirque Medrano Boum-Boum en 1947.   Source : Tristan Rémy, Les Clowns , Grasset, 2002

Discarding Unused Temporal Information in a Production System

Reasoning about temporal facts and continuous operation are two features needed by industrial expert systems. The interplay of those two requirements calls for some form of knowledge management for temporal information in order to limit memory consumption and to avoid performance degradation. The paper presents a method to remove obsolete temporal facts in the context of PAMELA-C, a rule-based production system language. Temporal conditions may be specified in the form of time intervals of fixed length between discrete events containing numerical time-stamps. The proposed algorithm discards partial matches as soon as the temporal constraints of the corresponding rule can no longer be satisfied. The run-time system then automatically removes events which cannot contribute to the reasoning process any longer.
