Communicating Changes Throughout the Electronic Resources Lifecycle to Library Staff and Users

Electronic resources undergo various changes during their lifecycle from evaluation, to acquisitions, to renewal or cancelation. To keep users abreast of these changes, effective communication is necessary between the electronic resources librarian and the library team. Effective communication is equally important between the electronic resources librarian and library users. At Queens College Library, the Library Team consisting of faculty librarians and staff are alerted to electronic resources changes through emails and posts to a Microsoft Teams library channel. Those lifecycle changes communicated to the Library Team are also featured on a public Electronic Resources Status (ERS) Dashboard, accessible to anyone. The ERS Dashboard and related policies and workflows have helped to streamline communication with the Library Team and users. The author details the techniques used in communicating electronic resources lifecycle changes to the Library Team and users

A-Z Database List review: Getting started and keeping the momentum

Libraries have multiple portals to access their electronic resources. At Queens College, the two access portals are the catalog, Ex-Libris’ Primo, and Springshare’s A-Z Database List. The most recent comprehensive review of the A-Z Database List was conducted five years ago by the previous electronic resources librarian. As such, the list had multiple formats for displaying information and lacked consistency. The supporting information for the overall layout of the list was not helpful to users nor library staff. Users should be able to search for the resources they want without getting bogged down by unnecessary jargon, inconsistencies, and fluff. It was not difficult to get buy in for a comprehensive review. Librarians agreed that the list lacked consistency and a review would be beneficial. Beyond that there was little consensus. Where do we start? How do we approach this

Adapting to remote services: getting started with a knowledge base for your users

This disruption to usual services as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic forced many librarians to reevaluate the methods with which their users connect with library personnel and library resources. The library is a vital source of information and during these times, it becomes our duty to ensure students and faculty are able to access resources, get research and instructional assistance and be able to continue to do their work with as little disruption as possible. The first step to this would be for the library to organize its contact information, resources and helpful links in one central location, in the form of an FAQ page (Kennedy, 2011)

We highlight some of the challenges in gathering a comprehensive list of titles, the process of formulating such a list, and the measures needed to actively curate e-books by faculty for both content already in the collection and newly published titles
