Antenna subtraction with hadronic initial states

    Get PDF
The antenna subtraction method for the computation of higher order corrections to jet observables and exclusive cross sections at collider experiments is extended to include hadronic initial states. In addition to the already known antenna subtraction with both radiators in the final state (final-final antennae), we introduce antenna subtractions with one or two radiators in the initial state (initial-final or initial-initial antennae). For those, we derive the phase space factorization and discuss the allowed phase space mappings at NLO and NNLO. We present integrated forms for all antenna functions relevant to NLO calculations, and describe the construction of the full antenna subtraction terms at NLO on two examples. The extension of the formalism to NNLO is outlined.Comment: 33 pages, 3 figure

The infrared structure of e+ e- --> 3 jets at NNLO reloaded

This paper gives detailed information on the structure of the infrared singularities for the process e+ e- --> 3 jets at next-to-next-to-leading order in perturbation theory. Particular emphasis is put on singularities associated to soft gluons. The knowledge of the singularity structure allows the construction of appropriate subtraction terms, which in turn can be implemented into a numerical Monte Carlo program.Comment: 59 pages, additional comments added, version to be publishe

EMULATION TOOL FOR TESTING FAULT TOLERANCE

    Get PDF
The aim of this paper is to show a possible adaptation of the well known microprocessor emulation method for testing fault tolerance, and to examine the advantages of the adap-tation. First a survey on test methods and their application will be given with respect to the possibilities for testing fault tolerant architectures. It will be followed by a short overview of different microprocessor fault models, and the fault injection routines based on the fault models. The injection routines require some hardware extension of the con-ventional microprocessor in-circuit emulator. The necessary extensions are shown on a MC68000 based in-circuit emulator. Finally, some improvement possibilities are discussed

THE INFORMATION CONTENT OF THE FARM AND UNIT LEVEL NUTRIENT BALANCES FOR THE MANAGEMENT

    Get PDF
The farm gate balance is well known from the environmental literature. This method is not suitable in every case to show the nutrient load for the environment of agricultural companies that is the reason why unit level internal nutrient balances are applied to express the level of nutrient pollution on the environment. These also help to determine the source of the pollution. With the survey of the nutrient flows within the farm we determine the keystones of nutrient management to control the nutrient load of the pollution sources. On the basis of the results and the controlled data of the unit level internal balances we make recommendations for the most appropriate environmental policy instrument to reduce the nutrient pollution

Inside the isomers: the tale of chiral switches

Reproduced with permission from Australian Prescriber The document attached has been archived with permission from the publisher/copyright holder.Chiral drugs are made up of molecules with the same chemical structure, but different three-dimensional arrangements. Modern manufacturing has enabled the development of products containing a single molecular arrangement. The development of these single enantiomers from chiral drugs is known as chiral switching. Enantiomers of the same drug can have different pharmacodynamic and pharmacokinetic properties. This may translate into potential health benefits, such as an improved safety margin, if one of the enantiomers has more favourable therapeutic and pharmacokinetic characteristics. However, some chiral switching has resulted in unpredicted toxicity and the withdrawal of the enantiomer from the market or a halt in its development. Drug companies are increasingly using chiral switching as a marketing strategy, but before prescribers switch to single enantiomer drugs they should look for evidence from well-conducted clinical trials that shows the chiral switch is cost-effective and improves the outcomes for patients rather than patents.A. Calculation of electric quadrupole linestrengths for diatomic molecules: Application to the H2, CO, HF and O2 molecules

    Get PDF
We present a unified variational treatment of the electric quadrupole (E2) matrix elements, Einstein coefficients, and line strengths for general open-shell diatomic molecules in the general purpose diatomic code \Duo. Transformation relations between the Cartesian representation (typically used in electronic structure calculations) to the tensorial representation (required for spectroscopic applications) of the electric quadrupole moment components are derived. The implementation has been validated against accurate theoretical calculations and experimental measurements of quadrupole intensities of 1H2 available in the literature. We also present accurate electronic structure calculations of the electric quadrupole moment functions for the X 1Σ+ electronic states of CO and HF at the CCSD(T) and MRCI levels of theory, respectively, as well for the a 1Δg - b 1Σg+ quadrupole transition moment of of O2 with MRCI level of theory. Accurate infrared E2 line lists for 12C16O and 1H19F are provided. A demonstration of spectroscopic applications is presented by simulating E2 spectra for 12C16O, 1H19F and 16O2 (Noxon a 1Δg - b 1Σg+ band)

Modifications of physical properties of coconut oil and anhydrous milk fat as a result of blending

    Get PDF
The role of fats in food technology is mainly to develop the desired consistency. The simplest way to reach this goal is the blending of different fats. The aim of our work was to study the solidification and melting properties of blends of coconut oil and anhydrous milk fat. Pure fats and their 25–75%, 50–50%, and 75–25% blends were investigated. Melting profile and isotherm crystallization were measured by pNMR. Non-isotherm melting and solidification were detected by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Possible applications of the blends were established. Results show that AMF and coconut oil has limited miscibility, which is dependent on the temperature. Below 22 °C AMF is the softening component, above 22 °C the effect is inverse. Coconut oil accelerates solidification of AMF, however, basic crystal forms of AMF remained
