    In order to nutritional needs of the sugar glider (Petaurus breviceps) in captivity, it has been given a Leadbeater modified feed and insects (superworm and crickets) as a natural food. The average feed intake of Leadbeater and fruits juice was 27.5 grams per head and superworm/crickets were 4 pieces per head per week. The nutritional content of feed modification Leadbeater 19% protein; 8.8% fat; 3.5% Ca; and 0.5% P. Each pairs of sugar glider placed in wire cages (60 cm x 40 cm x 40 cm) in order to facilitate the monitoring of reproduction. The mean increase in young birth of sugar gliders from March to October 2015 was 4.75 head per month. The bonding process is done since young sugar glider aged 2 months, in order to obtain young sugar glider as a product of pet animal

    Penangkaran penting dilakukan untuk mencegah kepunahan burung bayan yang dilindungi dan banyak dimanfaatkan. Pemeliharaan menentukan keberhasilan dari program penjodohan burung. Salah satunya, pola koloni atau pola pasangan. Selain itu, keberhasilan penangkaran tidak lepas dari aspek pakan dan perilaku. Tujuan penelitian ini, yaitu untuk mengetahui respon koloni nuri bayan terhadap penambahan bayan jantan dewasa yang ditinjau dari aspek perilaku dan pakan. Variabel yang diamati adalah perilaku harian, preferensi pakan, serta konsumsi pakan koloni nuri bayan sebelum dan setelah penambahan bayan jantan dewasa. Nuri bayan yang digunakan sebanyak enam ekor yang terdiri dari 2 ekor jantan dan 4 ekor betina. Pengamatan perilaku harian koloni burung bayan dilakukan di Penangkaran Burung, Pusat Penelitian Biologi-LIPI dengan metode scan sampling dan pencatatan dengan metode instantaneous recording. Pengamatan dilakukan selama 16 hari dengan 2 periode, yaitu kontrol dan perlakuan penambahan bayan jantan (8 hari kontrol dan 8 hari perlakuan) mulai pukul 07.30‒15.30 WIB. Penentuan preferensi dan jumlah konsumsi pakan dilakukan dengan penimbangan sisa setiap jenis pakan. Rata-rata suhu dan kelembaban masing-masing pada pukul 07.30 WIB yaitu 25.78 ℃ dan 65.00%, pada pukul 12.00 WIB yaitu 31.65 ℃ dan 42.83%, serta pada pukul 15.30 WIB yaitu 30.65 ℃ dan 44.83%. Koloni burung bayan dengan perlakuan memiliki frekuensi perilaku bertengger, makan, terbang, memanjat, dan interaksi sosial yang lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan koloni bayan kontrol. Total rata-rata bahan pakan yang dikonsumsi koloni bayan kontrol berdasarkan berat kering sebanyak 145,24 g/koloni/hari, sedangkan pada koloni dengan perlakuan sebesar 154,56 g/koloni/hari. Bahan pakan yang paling disukai oleh koloni bayan adalah jagung dan jumlah konsumsi pakan koloni bayan perlakuan lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan koloni bayan kontrol

    Porcupines are unique mammals, their upper body is covered with hard hair resembling sharp cylindrical spines and belongs to the order Rodentia. It has long been used as a source of animal protein. Javan porcupine (Hystrix javanica) is an endemic animal on Java and its population is estimated to continue, due to habitat destruction, poaching, and its use without a conservation. Observations on the growth of young javan porcupines were carried out for 12 months in Small Mammal Captivity, Research Center Biology - Indonesian Institute of Sciences. This study aims to determine the growth performance of young porcupines in captivity based on number of births, namely singles, twins, and triplets. The young will be with their mother for 3 months, they will be placed in individual cages. Weighing porcupines is done once a week. The results suggest that porcupines continue grow until they are 12 months old and probably continued. The average weight gain of single born was 30.31 g/day; birth of twins 29.65 g/day, 29.72 g/day; and birth of triplets were 29.57 g/day, 28.14 g/day, and 29.79 g/day. Prediction of 12-month-old porcupine carcass production for single, twins, and triplets, respectively, was 6740.86 g; 6593.15 g; and 6470.50 g
