    The Relationship between Atopic Dermatitis and Premenstrual Syndrome in Women Referred to the Skin Clinic of Hamadan

    BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: One of the factors affecting dermatophyte is hormonal factors, in which atopic dermatitis is more common in adult women. Since one of the psychotic problems regarding reproductive performance of women is premenstrual syndrome, in this study, the association between premenstrual syndrome and atopic dermatitis in reproductive age women was investigated. METHODS: This case-control study was performed on 82 women aged between 15 and 49 years old in two groups of atopic dermatitis referring to Skin Clinic of Sina Hospital in Tehran and control group including healthy women for atopic dermatitis. Demographic questionnaire and (PSST) Premenstrual Symptoms Screening Test (with score 42-0) were completed and evaluated by both groups. FINDINGS: The mean age of subjects in the case group was 17.17 ± 4.45 and in the control group was 27.29 ± 8.03 years. The results showed by controlling the possible confounding factors as age, occupation and marital status the probability of having moderate or severe premenstrual syndrome in patients with atopic dermatitis is 13.26 (OR= 13.26, 95% CI: 3.31, 53.07), as compared with healthy subjects. CONCLUSION: The results showed that there is a strong relationship between moderate to severe menstrual syndrome and atopic dermatitis in women

    Biceps tenodesis with Clancy method for chronic posterolateral rotary instability of the knee

    Background: Posterolateral rotatory instability is one of the most complex problems in ligamentous injuries of the knee. It represents a challenging diagnostic and therapeutic problem for the orthopaedic surgeon. We present the results of biceps tenodesis in chronic posterolateral rotatory instabilily of the knee.Methods: In this case series we included all of the patients with positive reverse pivot shift test and prone external rotation test at least 3 weeks after their trauma. We excluded the patients with varus malalignment of the knee and concomitant anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) rupture. Biceps tenodesis (Clancy method) was performed. We did not reconstruct posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) if its insufficiency was diagnosed in addition to posterolateral rotatory instability. Knee scoring scale of Lysholm was used during and after follow ups. The results were statistically compared using Wilcoxon signed rank test (WSRT), paired samples t-test and friedman test. Data analysis was done using SPSS (version 11.5) and Stata (version 8) computer softwares.Results: Our series consists of 13 patients (12 male and one female). 31% of the patients had isolated posterolateral injury and 69% of the patients had combined posterolateral and PCL injuries. The patients were between 17 to 45 years old (mean 30.25 years). Follow up was between 4 to 44 months (mean: 31 months). At the end of follow up 85% of patients had negative reverse pivot shift test. Prone external rotation test at 30° of knee flexion was negative in 92% of patients. In 92% of patients giving way was negative and in 77% of patients pain was decreased. Before operation the average Knee scoring scale of Lysholm was 73 and at the end of the follow up it increased to 85 (p value<0.001).Conclusions: Biceps tenodesis using Clancy method is a safe, effective and reliable method in management of chronic posterolateral rotatory instability of the knee. During surgery careful exploration of the common peroneal nerve is recommended. Although we found this method effective in combined posterolateral and PCL injuries the results are much better in the cases with isolated posterolateral injuries

    Abstract Asteraceae or Compositae are regarded as one of the most advanced families of the dicotyledons. It is characterized by some characters, one of them is fruit. Fruit is developed from inferior, bicarpellary, one seeded structure, which is technically termed as achene or cypsela. In mature cypsela fruit wall or pericarp is either addpressed with seed wall or secondarily separated from seed wall. In mature cypsela, seed wall may or may not be associated with endosperm and endosperm layer exists in mature cypsela either one or two layers. The paper deals with cypselar species from 11 genera of the family Asteraceae. Morphological features of the size, shape, colour of cypselas, apical part, surface hair, location of vascular trace, presence or absence of phytomelanin layer, structure of carpopodium and their cellular arrangements, pappus structure, stylopodia etc. are taxonomically significant.     Trends in aerosol optical depth over Indian region: Potential causes and impact indicators

    The first regional synthesis of long-term (back to similar to 25 years at some stations) primary data (from direct measurement) on aerosol optical depth from the ARFINET (network of aerosol observatories established under the Aerosol Radiative Forcing over India (ARFI) project of Indian Space Research Organization over Indian subcontinent) have revealed a statistically significant increasing trend with a significant seasonal variability. Examining the current values of turbidity coefficients with those reported similar to 50 years ago reveals the phenomenal nature of the increase in aerosol loading. Seasonally, the rate of increase is consistently high during the dry months (December to March) over the entire region whereas the trends are rather inconsistent and weak during the premonsoon (April to May) and summer monsoon period (June to September). The trends in the spectral variation of aerosol optical depth (AOD) reveal the significance of anthropogenic activities on the increasing trend in AOD. Examining these with climate variables such as seasonal and regional rainfall, it is seen that the dry season depicts a decreasing trend in the total number of rainy days over the Indian region. The insignificant trend in AOD observed over the Indo-Gangetic Plain, a regional hot spot of aerosols, during the premonsoon and summer monsoon season is mainly attributed to the competing effects of dust transport and wet removal of aerosols by the monsoon rain. Contributions of different aerosol chemical species to the total dust, simulated using Goddard Chemistry Aerosol Radiation and Transport model over the ARFINET stations, showed an increasing trend for all the anthropogenic components and a decreasing trend for dust, consistent with the inference deduced from trend in Angstrom exponent

    May Measurement Month 2019: an analysis of blood pressure screening results from Bangladesh

    According to the Non-communicable disease Risk Factors Survey of 2018, more than one-fifth (21.0%) of adults aged 25 years or older have hypertension and one-third of the adults did not have their blood pressure (BP) measured in their lifetime in Bangladesh. The National Heart Foundation of Bangladesh participated in May Measurement Month (MMM) 2017 and 2018 as well as this 2019 as a part of a global initiative aimed at raising awareness of high BP and to act as a temporary solution to the lack of screening programmes worldwide. This opportunistic screening of voluntary participants aged ≥18 years was carried out from May to July 2019. Data were collected from 100 screening sites in 16 districts in Bangladesh. BP measurement, the definition of hypertension, and statistical analysis followed the MMM protocol. Data on 24 941 individuals were analysed. Among the participants, 12 658 (50.8%) were female. After multiple imputation, 6990 (28.0%) had hypertension. Among the 6990 participants with hypertension, 5007 (71.6%) were on antihypertensive medication and 5331 (76.3%) were aware of having hypertension. Among 6990 participants with hypertension, 3217 (46.0%) had controlled BP (<140/90 mmHg) and among the participants with hypertension and on antihypertensive medication, 64.2% had controlled BP. Opportunistic BP screening can identify significant numbers of people with raised BP and thus assist in the prevention of cardiovascular diseases
