Studies on maturity onset diabetes of the young (MODY) from S. India

    Get PDF
We examined the following aspects of Maturity Onset Diabetes of the Young (MODY): prevalence, vascular complications, insulin secretion in offspring of MODY subjects, insulin resistance and whether MODY can be considered a distinct disease. We report a higher prevalence of MODY among Asian Indian patients. The prevalence rates of microvascular complications in MODY were found to be the same as in classical NIDDM patients. Glucose stimulated insulin and C-peptide responses were compared with non-diabetic controls. In MODY subjects, C-peptide responses were lower, whereas insulin responses were varied. Insulin secretion in offspring of MODY subjects was similarly evaluated, and abnormalities discovered even in these prediabetic subjects. Using the euglycaemic clamp technique, MODY patients were found to be more insulin resistant than classical NIDDM patients. Further lines of evidence are needed to resolve whether MODY can be considered a distinct disease

An unusual Salmonella species, S. choleraesuis subsp. indica serovar bornheim, was isolated from the urine of a patient with aplastic anemia, diabetes mellitus, and a healed urethral injury. An immune response to this isolate was demonstrated by whole-bacterial-cell agglutination

Wire less Power Theft Monitoring Using GSM

Developing countries faces widespread theft of power from government owned power utilities. So the aim of this project is to display the power theft area of the distribution transformer and raise an alarm. Here for the practical purpose transformers, source energy meter, household load, energy meter are used for measuring real loads along with wired link. The power theft area of the distribution transformer at substation is obtained by calculating the real consuming power by the energy meter and the main power at the distribution transformer. That means the real consumption of all users must be equals to the total power delivered by the transformer. The difference must be analyzed by the controller by calculating both powers. If the difference is within 2 to 3% variation (transmission losses are concerned) the system raises no error otherwise it will generates error with an alarm and sends message along with transformer location information to the authority through GSM modem and displays in the corresponding substation along with alarm

Performance Evaluation of Wastewater Treatment plant, Vidyaranyapuram, Mysuru

    Get PDF
Background: The primary goal of sewage water treatment is to eliminate or bring down the number of pollutants in the sewage water. This study was needed to assess the efficacy of a sewage treatment plant in reducing contaminants levels to comply with government environmental standards. The wastewater re-use for irrigation approaches must be in compliance with the guidelines and indicators must be tracked and impended consistently, it is therefore essential to give top priority to requirements at the stage of evaluating and development to protect land and water supplies as well as public health. Methods: Chemical and biological approaches were used to regulate the removal efficiency of treatment plants. The performance and effectualness of the Vidyaranyapuram sewage treatment plant (STP) in Mysore are evaluated and analyzed in this report. Novelty: Water quality needs to be regularly checked in wastewater treatment facilities. The current study will aid the treatment facility in its efforts to enhance the process of treatment. One would be able to update the effluent efficiency levels depending on the seasonal variations in wastewater treatment as the assessment explains the number of water quality metrics in waste water plants. The obtained analysis results are very helpful in locating, fixing, and maintaining plant operating and maintenance issues, which may be helpful for next plant expansion to be carried out to get good results. Result: The STP\u27s treatment efficiencies were discovered to have a good treatment level in BOD (96%) and a moderate treatment quality in COD (79%) and TSS (75%) removal efficiency during the year 2018. Conclusion: To ensure correct operation and maintenance, trained and experienced workers must analyze treatment performance at predetermined time intervals. The result explains the quality of effluent water and performance of treatment plant. STPs should be used to their full potential to manage the quality of final effluent, and raw sewage sources should be identified

Abnormalities in insulin response to intravenous glucose in offspring of conjugal (Type 2) diabetic parents

Glucose and insulin responses were measured during intravenous glucose tolerance test in 12 normal controls and 16 normoglycaemic adult offspring of conjugal diabetic parents. The glucose response curve and the glucose disposal rate in the offspring were not different from the normal pattern. These subjects elicited a lower first phase insulin (0-10 minutes area under the curve, p = 0.04), lower peak immunoreactive insulin response (p = 0.032) and also showed a delay in the first phase (p = 0.037) compared to control values. The second phase of insulin (11-120 minutes area) was not significantly different in the two groups. These changes could serve as early markers of diabetes in offspring of conjugal diabetic parents

Pancreatic beta cell function and peripheral activity of insulin in maturity onset diabetics - evaluation by mathematical applications

    Get PDF
Evaluation of the Pancreatic beta cell function and peripheral activity of insulin in diabetics were done using recently described mathematical formulae. Diabetics in general, had decreased beta cell function as well as impaired peripheral activity of insulin. In diabetics with ideal body weight, the chief defect was diminished insuling output which was directly proportional to the severity of diabetes. In obese diabetics, the main defect was at the periphery, and except in those with severe diabetes, beta cell function was better maintained. Application of these mathematical formulae helps in a clearer understanding of the kinetics of insulin and pathogenesis of diabetes in various types of diabetics

Antibacterial Activity of Certain Members of Chlorophyceae From Warangal District, Telangana State, India

    Get PDF
Abstract Chloroform and Methanol extracts of three genera of algae (Oedogonium crispum (Hassal) Wittrock, Rhizoclonium hieroglyphicum (Ag)Kuetz. and Spirogyra biformis C-C.Jao.) from fresh water of Warangal District were tested in vitro for their antibacterial activities against two strains of gram positive bacteria (Bacillus cereus and Staphylococcus aureus) and two strains of gram negative bacteria (Klebesiella pneumonia and Samonella typhi) by the disc diffusion method. Chloroform was the best solution for extracting the effective antibacterial materials from the algae used in this investigation, with the exception of O.crispum, for which methanol was the most effective extraction solution. Chloroform extracts of fresh S.biformis and R.heiroglyphicum showed effective results against all test organisms. For control sample observations the gentamycin was used. A significant difference between in an antibacterial activity evaluated chloroform and methanol extracts of each alga under investigation was not observed. In addition, as a result of dried and fresh extract antibacterial activity comparison, it was found that all test organisms were more sensitive to fresh extracts of the algae

GeoAI is a new emerging research area that refers to set of technologies that integrate AI technology with a diversity of GIS (Geographic Information System) techniques. The present study observed that GeoAI goes beyond current GIS expectations and into the domain of possibility in the not-too-distant future. This emerging interdisciplinary science will lead us to sustainable decisions and explore the most suitable solutions to the existing problems. GeoAI has the potential to transform current geography and geomatics programs by incorporating a GeoAI dimension into modern GIS curricula. In this review, we have studied the application GeoAI in various healthcare fields. GeoAI has the potential to revolutionize healthcare, public health, infectious disease control, disaster aid, and the achievements of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). in healthcare, GeoAI can help with disease diagnosis, treatment planning, and resource allocation. In public health, it can aid in disease surveillance, emergency response planning, and identifying health disparities. In infectious disease control, GeoAI can help predict and track disease outbreaks and support vaccination campaigns. In disaster aid, GeoAI can provide real time data on environmental hazards and their impact on public health. In achieving Sustainable Development Goals, it can support in land use planning, urban development, and resource allocation to promote health and environmental sustainability. Overall GeoAI has the potential to transform multiple sectors and improve the well-being of populations worldwide
