Period of homogeneous oscillations in the ferroinâcatalyzed Zhabotinskii system
This work is primarily an experimental investigation of the ferroinâcatalyzed Zhabotinskii system [malonic acid (MA), sulfuric acid, sodium bromate, traces of bromide ions, and ferroin]. We measure the transmittance as a function of time at 546 nm. The emphasis is placed on the properties of the period of homogeneous oscillations. It is found that T depends on the initial concentrations of reactants: T (s) = C [BrOâ3]â1.60 [H2SO4]â2.70 [MA]â0.270 s (mol dmâ3)4.57. The period is not perfectly constant. We investigate the conditions which favor irregularities: Low concentrations of BrOâ3, H2SO4, or MA; high concentrations of catalyst or reaction products. The irregularities in the period of homogeneous oscillations are of direct interest for our understanding of the formation of waves in the distributed system. Also, we find bifurcations in which a transition from steadyâstate to fullâblown oscillations is observed. Such bifurcations may be due to an unstable limit cycle or to a saddleânode transition. We discuss the saddleânode case in terms of the Bautin model. Finally, two steady states are observed. One of them has not been reported previously: In this state, the catalyst is mostly oxidized (blue). The oxidized steady state occurs at low [MA]0. Under the same conditions of low [MA]0, the distributed system exhibits both oxidizing (blue) and reducing (red) waves. This interesting new observation shows how much the ferroinâcatalyzed Zhabotinskii system is still underinvestigated.Peer Reviewedhttp://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/70920/2/JCPSA6-71-11-4669-1.pd

Atomization energies of phosphorus oxides
The study by the mass-spectrometric Knudsen-cell method of the vapours in equilibrium with metal oxide + metal phosphide systems at 1000-1700 K made possible the identification of the molecules P2O3, P2O4, P2O5 and P3O6. Their atomization energies were determined, as well as those of the phosphorus oxides prevalent at low temperatures. These are: P2O3: 2055±15, P2O4: 2530±18, P2O5: 3020±22, P3O6: 4012±24, P4O6: 4385 (+40, -60), P4O7: 4956±23, P4O8: 5516±25, P4O9: 6066±27 kJ mol-1.SCOPUS: cp.jinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishe
