The purpose of this Note is to assess the potential for successful business ventures in the C.S.F.R. in relation to the 1990 amendments to the Act. This Note will first discuss the needs and concerns of U.S. business persons who, until now, have been hesitant to join their Western European counterparts in establishing a business presence in the Eastern European marketplace. It will then analyze the Act and determine whether the 1990 amendments sufficiently remove traditional legal barriers to foreign equity investment in the C.S.F.R. Finally, this Note concludes that there are numerous economic and political measures, embodied in both U.S. and international institutions and legislation, which provide the prudent investor with sufficient security to initiate joint venture activity in the C.S.F.R

The purpose of this project is to identify the best practices in improving birth outcomes for Native American women with gestational diabetes (GDM). The true prevalence of GDM is unknown; however, pregnant women in the United States are being diagnosed at alarming rates. This project surveys the current practices being utilized to help improve outcomes. The research draws upon journal articles found on CINHAL, PUBMED and Cochrane databases. The results of this analysis of literature will be may be useful in determining best practices and interventions that will help improve birth outcomes in Native American women with GDM. Nursing and other health team members must intervene to assist the patient diagnosed with GDM in knowing and understanding the importance of screening and follow-up, nutritional goals and important lifestyle changes to help improve the birth outcome of their baby. The practices found in the literature may be implemented when caring for pregnant women with GDM. The evidence gathered through the literature review has been incorporated into an oral Power Point presentation to be delivered to Quentin N. Burdick Memorial Health Care Facility\u27s medical staff, nurses and administration

Shifting Images: Film and Historical Legacy of Malcolm X, 1959-2021

Malcolm X, born Malcolm Little and died el-Hajj Malik el-Shabazz, left an indelible mark on the American consciousness. Between 1952 and 1964, Malcolm X earned renown as a minister for the Nation of Islam under the guidance of the Honorable Elijah Muhammad. The first film appearance of Malcolm X himself was in the 1959 documentary The Hate That Hate Produced, a film that sent both Malcolm and the Nation of Islam onto the national, and eventually international, stage. The next attempt to immortalize the man in film would be after his death, in 1972’s Malcolm X, a documentary based on The Autobiography of Malcolm X. The efforts of that film would bleed directly into 1992’s Malcolm X, a dramatization of the same autobiography. For nearly thirty years there was a dearth of films about the man until 2020’s One Night in Miami, a fictionalization of a real night experienced by Malcolm X. By looking at the historical memory of Malcolm X through the framework of film; including what information the filmmakers used to create their works, what messages they portray through cinematic language and critical and audience reviews; this work seeks to trace the shifting film memory of Malcolm X

Assessing Cardiovascular Disease Risk In Women Newly Diagnosed With Breast Cancer

    Get PDF
This prospective, descriptive study was designed to explore the baseline cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factors of women newly diagnosed with breast cancer prior to receiving treatment with anthracyclines and/or trastuzumab. Women diagnosed with breast cancer are at risk for developing CVD and may experience increased risk factors related to breast cancer diagnoses and treatments. The specific aim was to determine baseline cardiovascular risk through the use of the Framingham General Cardiovascular Risk Assessment Score (FGCVRAS) calculation and heart/vascular age calculation. Subjects included 30 women (mean age 49.97). Mean FGCVRAS was 5.58% (SD 5.68), and mean heart/vascular age was 49.62 years (SD 18.33) with 9 women having heart/vascular ages that exceeded their actual ages. At a cardiovascular risk of approximately 5.3%, vascular age began to exceed actual age. At baseline, only 3 of the 30 women had ever had a cardiovascular risk assessment, 14 women had at least two CVD risk factors, and 6 women met diagnostic criteria for metabolic syndrome. Multiple regression showed that HDL, glucose, waist circumference, and mean systolic blood pressure most contributed to CVD risk as calculated by the FGCVRAS. At baseline, women diagnosed with breast cancer demonstrate a significant risk burden for CVD that needs to be assessed and addressed prior to beginning potentially cardiotoxic treatments

Surmounting Perceived Barriers for Missouri Female Superintendents: A Phenomenological Study

    Get PDF
Female superintendents throughout the United States disproportionately represent superintendents of public school districts (Cassidy et al., 2021; Gullo & Sperandio, 2020). This research study utilized the theoretical frameworks of feminism and the structured organization of institutions (Acker, 1990). In addition, the qualitative study used the phenomenological design. An open-ended survey was utilized, as well as a follow-up interview with open-ended questions to solicit deeper, lived experiences of self-imposed barriers and the strategies lead female superintendents in a Midwest state employed to surmount those barriers. Forty-four female lead superintendents in a Midwest state shared stories of their journeys to a lead superintendent position. The study’s findings provide a current context for how lead female superintendents experience self-imposed barriers. The top strategies lead female superintendents employed to address barriers were communicating with all stakeholders and asking for help, working hard to prove themselves, and gaining educational stakeholders\u27 respect. In addition, lead female superintendents had a familial and spousal support system willing to sacrifice for the female superintendent\u27s career. These findings of this study validate the current research that females experience self-imposed barriers to varying degrees throughout their careers. Further research is recommended to identify additional strategies females can take to surmount self-imposed barriers during their career journey, of females leading as a superintendent in differing school district sizes and females of color in the superintendency. Furthermore, additional research is needed to determine barriers specific to the number of years females have served in the superintendency and factors that may affect this implication

The use of digital alteration software on fashion models in advertising photographs has been used to promote an ideal standard of beauty for women. In an attempt to differentiate the thin ideal, fashion brand Aerie has vowed to not use digital alteration software to alter the physical characteristics of the models in their advertisements, while other companies such as Victoria\u27s Secret continues to utilize digital alteration techniques on their advertisements. This research examined consumer brand preference using Photoshopped Victoria\u27s Secret and non-Photoshopped Aerie fashion advertisements found from an online source. The purpose of this study was to examine college aged females perceptions of fashion brands Victoria\u27s Secret and Aerie. Through the use of an online survey, this study examined women\u27s brand preference of Victoria\u27s Secret and Aerie based on body image, online visual media literacy, self-esteem, self-congruence, brand image perception, and image preference. Results indicated that certain dimensions of body image and self-esteem, online visual media literacy, brand image, image preference, and self-congruence each played a key role in determining brand preference. These findings are vital as they can suggest alternative advertising methods for each brand
