    Southern Africa comprises a sub-system of exploitation which occupies a pivotal place in imperialist strategies for the African continent as a whole. The convergence of interests between the white minority regimes and the neo-colonialist order of imperialist powers in Africa has its roots in the fact that Southern Africa, and especially South Africa, are both economically and militarily the most reliable allies of imperialism and its most profitable base in the region. Imperialist capitalist investment in South Africa (about £3,000 million) is greater than the capital invested in the whole of the rest of Africa. United States investments in South African manufacturing industry alone are four times as much as in the rest of the continent.
