Bearing material
A composite material is described which will provide low friction surfaces for materials in rolling or sliding contact and is self-lubricating and oxidation resistant up to and in excess of about 930 C. The composite is comprised of a metal component which lends strength and elasticity to the structure, a fluoride salt component which provides lubrication and, lastly, a glass component which not only provides oxidation protection to the metal but may also enhance the lubrication qualities of the composite
Bonded solid lubricant coating Patent
Bonded solid lubricant coatings of calcium fluoride and binder for high temperature stabilit

Self-lubricating fluoride metal composite materials Patent
Self lubricating fluoride-metal composite materials for outer space application
Plasma-sprayed metal-glass fluoride coatings for lubrication to 1170 K (1650 F)
Plasma spray of Nichrome matrix composite contains dispersed glass for oxidation protection and calcium fluoride for lubrication. Coatings can be applied to bearing journals and bearing bores. Coating was easily machinable and had excellent bond strength on substrate metal
Composites of porous metal and solid lubricants increase bearing life
Self-lubricating composites of porous nickel and nickel-chromium alloy impregnated with a barium fluoride-calcium fluoride eutectic, and a thin film of solid lubricant increase wear life of load bearing surfaces
Method of making self lubricating fluoride- metal composite materials Patent
Production of barium fluoride-calcium fluoride composite lubricant for bearings or seal
High temperature rare earth solid lubricants
Rare earth trifluorides have potential use as lubricating fillers for mechanical carbons and as coatings on metallic substrates. Friction experiments show that they are effective in reducing metallic wear
Solid-film lubricant is effective at high temperatures in vacuum
Calcium fluoride with a suitable inorganic binder forms a stable solid-film lubricant when fused to the surface to be lubricated. It is effective in environments at elevated temperatures and gas pressures ranging from atmospheric to high vacuum. It is not stable in reducing atmospheres
