Growing use of X-ray guided surgery interventions leads to increase in the risk of radiation side effects in medical staff participating in image-guided interventional procedures. In this connection to protect health and ensure professional longevity of the interventionists are important scientific and social problems. The purpose of the study presented in the article is to assess radiation dose to the lens of eyes, doses to whole body and hands of medical staff performing X-ray-guided endovascular proce-dures. Doses were measured with the use of thermoluminescent dosimeters. Due to clinical eye ex-amination for above staff to assess abilities to refract the light existence of involution changes, which are unusual for a specific age of an examined person, are found. The study proves that new annual equivalent dose limit for the lens of the eyes of 20 mSv recommended by the IAEA is justified

Purpose: To study peculiarities of the clinical profile of patients of reproductive age suffering from external genital endometriosis (EGE).Materials and methods: Analysis of clinical presentations of the disease and laboratory examination in 96 patients was performed, among them 74 patients had EGE and 22 patients did not have endometriosis. Results: The data about the type of menstrual cycle, surgical interventions, inflammatory diseases of pelvic organs and venereal infections were presented and the course of this disease was discussed.Summary: Burdened gynecological history in the form of past inflammatory diseases of pelvic organs and surgical interventions is of importance in the clinical profile of the patients with EGE

The scientific article contains a review of various methods of surgical treatment of follicular cysts of the jaws in children, both in the historical aspect, and in modern recommendations. Cases of 134 patients of Department of Maxillofacial Surgery of the Nizhny Novgorod Regional Children's Hospital evaluated the surgical techniques used in the clinic, viewed a permanent tooth preservation problem. There was made a conclusion about the indications for the choice of the surgical method, preservation rudiment of permanent tooth, and the necessity of early detection of follicular cysts of the jaws in children

New in, old out? Does learning a new language make you forget previously learned foreign languages?

Anecdotal evidence suggests that learning a new foreign language (FL) makes you forget previously learned FLs. To seek empirical evidence for this claim, we tested whether learning words in a previously unknown L3 hampers subsequent retrieval of their L2 translation equivalents. In two experiments, Dutch native speakers with knowledge of English (L2), but not Spanish (L3), first completed an English vocabulary test, based on which 46 participant-specific, known English words were chosen. Half of those were then learned in Spanish. Finally, participants’ memory for all 46 English words was probed again in a picture naming task. In Experiment 1, all tests took place within one session. In Experiment 2, we separated the English pre-test from Spanish learning by a day and manipulated the timing of the English post-test (immediately after learning vs. one day later). By separating the post-test from Spanish learning, we asked whether consolidation of the new Spanish words would increase their interference strength. We found significant main effects of interference in naming latencies and accuracy: Participants were slower and less accurate to recall words in English for which they had learned Spanish translations compared to words for which they had not. Consolidation did not significantly affect these interference effects. Learning a new language thus indeed comes at the cost of subsequent retrieval ability in other FLs. Such interference effects set in immediately after learning and do not need time to emerge, even when the other FL has been known for a long time

We found significant main effects of interference in naming latencies and accuracy: Participants speeded up less and were less accurate to recall words in English for which they had learned Spanish translations, compared to words for which they had not. Consolidation time did not significantly affect these interference effects. Thus, learning a new language indeed comes at the cost of subsequent retrieval ability in other FLs.
