Gain without pain: an international case for a tradable green certificates system to foster renewable energy development in Ukraine

This paper elaborates on the theoretical and methodological fundamentals of a tradable green certificates system to foster renewable energy development in Ukraine. It proposes a management mechanism premised on the classical market model of tradable green certificates aiming at increasing the share of electricity from renewable energy sources in the country's energy mix. Organizational stages of the mechanism formation at the national level and a methodological approach to assess green electricity generation cost are developed. The modeling has shown that the annual increase in the cap for green electricity consumption by 1% will raise the electricity tariff by 3%, which is not a significant financial burden for consumers. The proposed changes in the tradable green certificates system can be an effective management tool to achieve the required amount of electricity from renewable energy sources in the country's total electricity consumption and to foster the development of the Ukrainian renewable energy sector

Solar energy for green university: estimation of economic, environmental and image benefits

The paper considers the main components of the green university concept, the foreign experience of environmental transformation of higher education institutions, and the impact of eco-innovations implementation on strengthening universities’ position in the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings. The green strategy of Sumy State University, the results of its implementation, and prospects for improvement in terms of increasing renewable energy sources usage through the solar power plant installation are analysed. The effectiveness of the solar power plant investment project and the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere by replacing conventional electricity with electricity generated by the solar power plant are estimated. It is proved that in addition to economic and environmental benefits, the implementation of the solar energy project will positively impact the university’s image at the national and international level

У статті розглядаються теоретичні та методологічні основи системи торгівлі зеленими сертифікатами для стимулювання розвитку відновлюваної енергетики в Україні. У статті запропоновано механізм управління, заснований на класичній ринкової моделі зелених сертифікатів, спрямований на збільшення частки електроенергії з відновлюваних джерел енергії в структурі енергоспоживання країни. Розроблено організаційні етапи формування механізму на національному рівні та методичний підхід до оцінки вартості виробництва зеленої електроенергії. Моделювання показало, що річний приріст частки зеленої електроенергії на 1% підвищить тариф на електроенергію на 3%, що не є значним фінансовим тягарем для споживачів. Пропонована система торгівлі зеленими сертифікатами може стати ефективним інструментом управління для досягнення необхідної частки зеленої електроенергії в загальному енергоспоживанні країни та стимулювання розвитку сектора відновлюваної енергетики в Україні.В статье рассматриваются теоретические и методологические основы системы торговли зелеными сертификатами для стимулирования развития возобновляемой энергетики в Украине. В статье предложено механизм управления, основанный на классической рыночной модели зеленых сертификатов, направленный на увеличение доли электроэнергии из возобновляемых источников энергии в структуре энергопотребления страны. Разработаны организационные этапы формирования механизма на национальном уровне и методический подход к оценке стоимости производства зеленой электроэнергии. Моделирование показало, что годовой прирост доли зеленой электроэнергии на 1% повысит тариф на электроэнергию на 3%, что не является значительным финансовым бременем для потребителей. Estimation of Management Effectiveness of Electricity Supply Enterprises in Emerging Economies

The article gives an estimation of the management effectiveness of electricity supply enterprises in emerging economies on the example of enterprises of the northern and central regions of Ukraine. Estimation was conducted on the basis of the authors’ methodological approach that applies the number of indicators taken as a basis for the formation of the integrated indicator. The latter allows carrying out a comprehensive estimation of the management effectiveness system of the electricity supply enterprises. The obtained results show a low management effectiveness of the considered electricity supply enterprises. As a result, the conducted research identified the barriers that hinder the efficient development of electricity supply enterprises and outlined the main directions for reforming energy supply enterprises’ activity

World market of liquid biofuels: trends, policy and challenges

This paper aimed at studying the current state of development of liquid biofuels’ world market. The authors considered the theoretical bases of liquid biofuels production, their types, disadvantages and advantages. The world experience of introducing stimulation mechanisms of development and their influence on the sectors’ growth is analyzed. In this study’s frame, there is outlined the world leaders in the production of liquid biofuels. The findings represent the peculiarities of state regulation in implementing mandates for creating transport fuels with bioliquids. The current state of investment in the production of liquid biofuels was investigated. The obtained results contribute to the prospects for promoting world production of liquid biofuels to achieve the Paris Agreement’s goals by 2030 under the sustainable development scenario
