INVESTIGATION ON IN VIVO ANALGESIC ACTIVITY OF METHANOL EXTRACT OF MARINE BROWN ALGA SPATOGLOSSUM ASPERUM J. AGARTH
Objective: In the present study, evaluation of the methanol extract of Spatoglossum asperum, brown marine algae on the analgesic activity using animal model was focussed. Methods: Acetic acid-induced writhing test on Wistar albino rats at a dosage of 10 mg/kg body weight of algal extract have been carried out. It showed significant analgesic activity by reducing the number of acetic acid-induced writhing. Results: The animals at a dosage of 10 mg/kg body weight exhibited, 70.52% of the animals were protected using S. asperum extract, on the other hand, the standard, diclofenac protected 84.21% of the animals. The results are statistically significant at p<0.001, and the investigation revealed dose-dependent significant activity in comparison with standard and control. Conclusion: Hence, it can be concluded that the methanol extracts of the brown alga S. asperum have potent analgesic activity at moderate doses
VITAMIN CONTENT OF MARINE RED ALGA CHAMPIA PARVULA
Objective: The current investigation focuses on determining the vitamin content of marine red alga Champia parvula.
Methods: Vitamins were divided and analyzed using Milichrom A-02 LC and multiwavelength ultraviolet visible as a detector. A 2 mm (ID)×250 mm (l) column was used to filter comprising C18 in the inverse stage used for separation.
Results: The results suggest that the seaweed, C. parvula, contains 0.583±0.01, 3.43±0.01, 4.95±0.01, 1.95±0.01, 6.33±0.00, 174.74±0.01, and 15.75±0.01 μg of Vitamin A, B1, B5, folic acid, B12, C, and E, respectively, per gram of dry weight of the seaweed.
Conclusion: The findings indicate that the seaweed, C. parvula, has a higher nutritional value and could be used as great dietary supplements for vitamins
Mild and selective oxidation of alcohols and deoximation of oximes over supported quinolinium fluorochromate
936-946Quinolinium nuorochromate
supported over silica gel selectively brings about the oxidation of a wide variety
of alcohols and oxidative deoximation of certain aldoximes and ketoximes to the
corresponding carbonyl compounds in good yield. The reagent selectively oxidises
primary hydroxyl group in the presence of secondary hydroxyl group. The selectivity
is also
exhibited in the
oxidation of axial hydroxyl group of the cis-4-t-butyl cyclohexanol
in preference to equitorial hydroxyl group. Further the reagent is stable even
after a period of twelve weeks of it s storage
Chromatographic Fingerprint Analysis of Spatoglossum asperum J.Agardh by HPTLC Technique
Abstract The present study aimed to develop high performance thin layer chromatography (HPTLC) fingerprint profile of the methanol extract of Spatoglossum asperum J.Agardh. From HPTLC findings, hexane:ethyl acetate (60:40) mobile phase was found to be the most suitable solvent system for proper elution of compounds with good separation. HPTLC finger print scanned at 490 nm for methanol extract of S.asperum revealed 8 peaks with Rf values in the range of 0.39 to 0.93. The bands revealed presence of phytochemicals after spraying with anisaldehyde -sulphuric acid reagent. The developed HPTLC method could be a viable option for the routine quality control of present species for extracts of plants, and this method can serve to measure the phytochemicals by qualitatively as well as quantitatively and also for standardization of the extract. Also, it is useful as a phytochemical marker and a technique to check the genetic variability in various plant species. The developed HPTLC fingerprints will help the manufacturer to distinguish the adulterant and standardization of herbal formulations
Selective and clean oxidation of alcohols with benzimidazolium fluorochromate (BIFC) under solvent free conditions
144-147Benzimidazolium fluorochromate (BIFC) is an
efficient and selective oxidant for alcohols under solvent free conditions. It
selectively oxidises primary alcohols in the presence of secondary alcohols.
This is a new, eco-friendly, eco-nomical and effective oxidant
Adsorption of amino acid on mesoporous molecular sieves
Adsorption of L-histidine (His) over various porous adsorbents such as CMK-3, SBA-15, and activated carbon has been studied from solutions with different pH. His adsorption was observed to be pH dependent with maximum adsorption near the isoelectric point of the amino acid. CMK-3 showed a larger amount of His adsorption as compared to SBA-15 and the conventional adsorbent, namely activated carbon. CMK-3 registers the total adsorption capacity of ca. 1350 μmol/g which is ca. 12 times higher than the adsorption capacity of SBA-15. This large difference could be mainly due to the stronger hydrophobic interaction between the non-polar side chains of amino acids and the hydrophobic surface of the mesoporous carbon as compared to mesoporous silica. The influence of ionic strength on the adsorption of His has also been studied and the results are discussed. Nitrogen adsorption of CMK-3 after His adsorption confirmed that His molecules are tightly packed inside the mesopores
