\u3cem\u3eAnthidium\u3c/em\u3e as an Exterminator of Honey Gathering Bees and Bumblebees

The Polish name of this bee, given it by Prof. Nowioki, probably relates to the way in which it covers the walls of its nest with a sort of tapestry made of vegetable wool, which some species of the genus use to build their nests. This specimen of the Hymenoptera is classified into the group of solitary bees (Apidae solitarii). The species of this genus, the number of which totals 400, usually inhabit regions with warmer climate. About 200 species occur in the palaearctic region. In Poland six species are known, of which the most common is Anthidium manicatum L. The others are A. strigatum Pano., A. oblongatum Latr., A. cingulatum Latr., A. lituratum Pano., and A. montanum Mor. which is found in Silesia and in the Tatra Mountains.
