    The goal of this study is described the process and the result from the application of direct instructional model to improve the skills of singing folk songs in VIII grade students of Public Junior Highschool 2 Pontianak. This study use descriptive method with action research, qualitative research feature. This study passed two cycle process. The results obtained for indicators of direct instructional model to improve the skills of singing folk songs in VIII grade students of Public Junior Highschool 2 Pontianak in the first cycle, the average of student's score is 68.66, below the passing grade. In the second cycle, the value of the learning skills of the students in singing folk songs increased to an average value of 81.66, above the minimum completeness criteria. Based on the results of research and discussions that have been submitted, it can be concluded some of the following (1) The application of direct instructional model could improve the skills of singing folk songs in VIII grade students of Public Junior Highschool 2 Pontianak. (2) The result of direct instructional model to improve the skills of singing folk songs in VIII grade students of Public Junior Highschool 2 Pontianak increased
