The "Zeitschrift für freie deutsche Forschung" (journal for free German research) published the scholarship of exiled German researchers from all academic areas (history, philosophy, psychology, physics, literature, etc). The goal of the journal was to give researchers persecuted by National Socialism the opportunity to publish their work in the German language. Contributors included Albert Einstein, Hugo Sinzheimer, Alfred Stern, and many others. The "Zeitschrift für freie deutsche Forschung" was published by the "Freie Deutsche Hochschule" (Free German School), and organization founded by the Hungarian Jewish Marxist and scholar Johann Lorenz Schmidt. Although the publisher was connected to the communist party, it was free from communist ideology. The "Zeitschrift für freie deutsche Forschung" was indirectly political in the sense that its liberal-democratic approach to research was in opposition to fascist Germany. -- (Sources: Maas, Liesellotte.
